GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TIRES Complaints

245/55R19 is the tire size. I went to have my tires balanced and aligned on [XXX] at a local shop, Arrow. Alignment here in Eau Claire, WI. They advised me that the ply in all 4 tires was separating and that is why the ride was so rough. Presently I’m scheduled to have them all replaced to the tune of $1,034 and change this Friday, [XXX] at arrow alignment because although the tread - confirmed at a dealership to still be good - the tires themselves seem to have some sort of defect in them causing them all to have the ply separating. I’ll have them check the spare this Friday as well to ensure that is not also experiencing ply separation and if it is have that replaced as well. Fortunately this didn’t cause a horrid accident, but I’ve been driving on these at high speeds assuming I just had to get them aligned and balanced. Severe crack in sidewall of one tire. (4) 235/45R18 GOODYEAR ASSURANCE MAXLIFE I stopped by the installer today 9/12/2023. At risk for Blow-out. No signs of running underinflated. To my surprise - they Identified that the three other tires are show similar sidewall cracking emerging. Pictures available. Pictures of the other three tires are available upon request. I purchased four tires from Tire rack January 5, 2020. I’ve now had 2 tire sidewalls blow out in 1 month. They are both 215/45/17 sized tires

I purchased the Goodyear Assurance tires (235/55R17) when I purchased my Escape with the understanding that they had a life of 80,000 miles. They're barely through the halfway point and show signs of cracking and wire protrusion. We ran over a screw and they hole was beyond repair and the technician pointed out how the tire was failing. All four are being replaced for safety concerns.

I was advise by one of the mechanic to change tires immediately. Since my Grand daughter occasionally drive the card, due to safety, We bought 4 set of Brand New Good Year Assurant Outlast Tires immediately (235/55 R18) from Walmart at Farmingdale, NY on 6/12/2023 at 8:00 PM. Walmart stated that they could not put tire on my car for another week so I decided to take tires to my local mechanic who put ALL 4 tires next day in the morning. All tires were installed; however, after driving for about 15 miles, I saw my car pulling. I pulled in safe area and notice that the car was tire was flat. I towed car to the mechanic who installed it. He stated that tire is leaking from side and is NO Good! I went to Walmart to complain about the tire. They punted the problem to call Good Year. I called Good Year at [XXX] to file complain (No [XXX]). Apparently, Good Year tire technician looked in Hurry at the tire and stated that is Road side issue and punted problem again. They stated that they will provide 50% tire cost if we buy again. I believe there is defect in the tire which Good Year (and Walmart) are not owning up to and giving run around. I still have the tire and I want NHTSA to investigate further on root cause esp since I do have 3 other tires installed and my granddaughter is driving. We had four Goodyear Assurance 215/70R/15 tires installed on our 2008 Tacoma pick-up by Sam's Club in 2019. While driving at highway speed (~55 mph), the driver's rear tire had a blowout of the outside sidewall. There were no objects or potholes run over. After removing the tire and inspecting the tread, there are no signs of any foreign objects in the tread. The tire pressure checks for all the tires were completed within the previous month, and they were balanced and rotated by Sam's Club within the previous three months. Fortunately, this did not occur on a front tire since we were on a heavily traveled two-lane road and we could have lost control with a catastrophic failure like this one. There were approximately 15k miles of use on all the tires.

On June 07, 2023, I was driving on the highway when I noticed a rumbling noise from the front driver-side tire (215/65R18). I got out and inspected the tires and observed nothing wrong with the tires. The next day (06/08) my wife was driving the vehicle on the highway (60 mph) and the vehicle started to shake. She pull the vehicle over and got out to check the vehicle. She observed the front driver-side tire sidewall was completely torn open. My wife never hit anything or ran over anything. The tire shop (Kost) could explain what happened to the tire. The shop person stated that it looked like a complete failure of the sidewall. The tire had approx. 9000 miles on it. In all my years of driving I never had a tire fail this bad.

Tire Size - P235/40R19 03/03/2022 TPMS light came on and Right Rear Tire inner sidewall blew out while on the freeway. I felt and heard a lot of read noise while this occurred and was able to safely pull off freeway and have spare tire put on. Went to Just Tires, 5155 Bryant Irvin Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76132 and left Right Rear tire with them for inspection. Previously closed location of Just Tires 1661 S Main St, Keller, TX 76248 was the shop that installed both Rear tires on 06/18/2022 On the way home heard more road noise. 03/04/2022 Inspected Left Rear Tire before leaving and saw visible tears on the inner sidewall. Slowly drove vehicle back to Just Tires on Bryant Irvin RD to inspect Left Rear tire.

The contact owns a 1994 Lincoln Town Car equipped with Goodyear Tires, Tire line: Assurance Comfortred Tread Touring, Tire size: 215/70/R15 DOT: PJ343912 and PJ340214. The contact stated that all four tires were showing signs of cracked sidewalls and treads. The contact stated that the failure was discovered while cleaning the tires. The contact stated that the tires were purchased new from Walmart on 10/31/2014. The tires were not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer Goodyear was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tires were too old as there was a 6-year warranty on cracking. There was no assistance offered. The tire failure mileage was unknown. The approximate vehicle mileage was 200,000.

ALL FOUR TIRES DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS 1.On February 10, 2020 we purchased four Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires from Riverside Garage (19 East Ave., Riverside, 60546 708-447-7221 (see attached receipt) 2.On August 5, 2022 the rear/driver’s side tire went flat in Springfield, Illinois during a family visit. We were unable to reinflate the tire. Discount Tire inspected it and found a 12 inch or greater slit and a 1-1/2 inch slit on the inside wall of the tire (see attached photos). The slits revealed white mesh inner membrane. It was unsafe to use, so Discount Tire replaced it. 3.On August 7, 2022, while on route back to Riverside, Illinois from Springfield, Illinois on Interstate 55 we observed a “low tire” light another Assurance tires at rear/passenger side tire. 4.On August 8, 2022 Riverside Garage inspected the rear/passenger tire to find a 1-1/2 inch slit on the inside wall of the tire, which was similarly situated as the other tire. It also revealed an interior mesh membrane similar to the other flat tire. Further inspection of the remaining two tires showed faint “lines” similarly positioned across the inside walls of the remaining front two tires. The tires are preserved at the garage for inspection. 5.On August 10, 2022, the three remaining Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires were replaced with Goodyear Eagle tires. It is very likely that all of these tires were dangerously defective on manufacture and that others are probably in us. This incident occurred about 2 years post purchase, meaning that other who bought similar tires will begin to experience blowouts and accident in the same time span. Please take action to protect others from blowouts on these defective tires.
