GOODYEAR WRANGLER TRAILRUNNER AT TIRES Complaints

Three of four original Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT tires (DOT 0222) on my 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 have experienced catastrophic tread separations under normal use with 28,095 miles. The first two failed under warranty and were replaced at my expense; the third failed at highway speed, causing vehicle damage and a $1,000 insurance deductible plus additional cost to replace the tire. The dealership advised GM sent the failed tires for analysis, but GM denies receiving or reviewing them. Multiple NHTSA complaints describe identical failures on this same tire model (e.g., #11522434, #11482843, #11457647). This pattern indicates a potential widespread safety defect.

These tires are good year wrangler trail runner at size lt275/65 r20. My total mileage on these tires was 40970These were the original tires that were installed when the truck was purchased new. My tires are rotated every 5000 miles. Tire pressure is maintained at the exact pressure. I was driving on an interstate at 70 mph. A vibration started. I checked the tire pressure monitors and all showed normal pressures - I stopped and observed the tires were no longer round but had bulges to one side of the tread surface Both are likely to blowout and have to be replaced Two did this same thing in last 2 weeks

With 33k miles on the original tires on my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. Driver's side rear ire self destructed going down the highway at 70mph. Was not towing at the time. LT275/65R20 126/123S E @ 80psi

The tire Goodyear LT275/65R20 are the original tires on the truck when purchased. The tires have been rotated and balanced at the dealership routinely, approximately 42,000 miles on the set. On [XXX], I was travelling [XXX] here in NC when I felt a bump as if I had hit something in the road. I pulled off to the shoulder to inspect for damage or a flat tire. The left rear tire had completely lost its tread, only the steel belts were showing. Thus caused significant damage to the fender and tailgate of the truck. The tire remained inflated. Another driver pulled over in front of me and stated that the separated part had damaged his car. The NC State patrol was called and a report made for insurance. No one was injured to my knowledge. I changed the tire and was able to complete my trip. This could have caused a serious problem with a very serious accident. Fortunately, no one was injured. There were no warning that this might happen. I have sent pictures of the damage to my truck to the insurance company. This makes me very uneasy about these tires, I may need to purchase an entirely new set of tires from another manufacturer. I am not sure Goodyear is a decent brand of tire. Goodyear Wrangler Trail Runner AT LT275/65R20 126/123S I had been traveling at 55 mph when I started noticing a vibration in the steering wheel and front wheels. It started getting a little more noticeable, so I pulled over and checked out the front tires. I checked the lug nuts, looking for missing wheel balance weights, and checked the tires for any bulges. Everything seemed to be ok. Started driving again and the vibration was still there. As I was slowing down for a traffic light, the tire tread separated, and I pulled over. The tire remained inflated so I didn't hurt the rim. I changed the tire and after I get home the tire blew out.

I am reporting a potentially serious and widespread safety defect involving Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT tires installed as factory equipment on General Motors trucks. My 2025 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali has just 5,800 miles. Both rear tires, with DOT code 2724, have developed identical sidewall bulges behind the “NER” in the “TrailRunner” stamp. These bulges are consistent with internal structural failure, not road hazard damage. The truck has never struck a pothole or curb, and there is no evidence of impact or external damage. I have personally inspected several brand-new GM trucks on dealer lots, equipped with the same Goodyear tires, showing the exact same sidewall bulge in the same location. These trucks also have newer DOT Manufacture date stamps. Most importantly, these vehicles have never been driven, which strongly suggests a tire manufacturing defect, not a driver-related issue. At my first scheduled service, the dealer’s service department refused to rotate the tires, citing the bulges as a safety risk. I filed a formal complaint with GM and requested that they involve Goodyear. GM denied the request, claimed the damage was from road impact (without evidence), and stated that the decision was final and not disputable. They refused to conduct any further investigation or escalate the claim. I believe GM’s refusal to act on a potential structural defect, especially one seen across multiple new vehicles, demonstrates a failure to exercise due diligence and exposes the public to unnecessary danger. A blowout from these bulges could lead to serious injury or fatal crashes. I am urging NHTSA to open a defect investigation into Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT tires, particularly those with DOT code 2724 and newer, as installed on GM trucks. I am prepared to submit photographs and dealership documentation as necessary.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 equipped with Goodyear Tires, Tire Line: Wrangler Trail Runner AT, Tire Size: 275/65/R20, DOT Number: 1PJ0TJB2V. The contact stated that the passenger's side rear tire had a large bulge along the sidewall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the passenger's side rear tire needed to be replaced. The tire was not yet replaced. The tire manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The tire failure mileage was 1,500. The vehicle failure mileage was 2,500. The VIN was unavailable.

Tire = LT275/65R20. After 20 minutes on surface streets in 98° weather, entered freeway and heard a "thumping" sound every second at about 45 mph. Appeared to be the freeway but after accelerating to about 55 mph a loud bang was heard and the tire blew. This was a catastrophic failure where the tread fully separated from the wheel and did substantial damage to the side and wheel well of the truck. The rim was also damaged beyond repair.

Concerning Goodyear Wrangler Trailrunner AT P275/65/20 tires that came stock with my 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD, which currently has 42,000 miles on it. While driving a round trip of no more than 30 miles the evening of 11/29/24, I noticed a slight repetative jaring motion, which I initially attributed to a potential transmission issue. The bump rapidly worsened halfway though the drive. Upon inspection at the time, I could not see any visible damage to the tire. However, the issue escalated aggressively during my return home, resulting in the tire blowing out and detreading entirely. This failure caused significant damage to the body of my truck, amounting to an estimated $3,500 in repair costs. I believe this incident is due to a defect in the tire, as such occurrences are highly uncommon and unexpected from a product of your reputation. I have oil changes as recommended by the trucks service maunual and with ample tread left on the tire and good scores of inspection it begs the question on how a tire could fail so abruptly. I have 3 other tires with ample tread which should last at least another 10k miles but I'm gravely concerned with continued use of them for fear another blowout could cause a fatal accident.

Tires lt275/65r20 is the size. I purchased my truck Oct 2023. The day after i got home. I noticed a bulge in the sidewall of the front tire. I took it to the dealer the next day and they replaced it. But not after they accused me of hitting something. Luckily i had the picture the salesman had sent prior to me purchasing the truck and it was visible there. So a few weeks noticed 2 tires had same problem. Dealer again tried to say it was caused by an impact. They would not replace. so i called goodyear who had no problem replacing them at Belle tire. This past sunday, same tires that were replaced had a bulging in the side walls again! Belle tire replaced AGAIN under goodyear warranty but with 2 different good year tires. So I don't know if this is a good year defect or wrong tire being sold for these large trucks. The safety of my family is important to me, and these tires problems are scary. I purchased this truck from Hubler Chevrolet in Indianapolis.
