Audi mmi will shut off randomly, while in drive(accelerating or not), reverse, or idle, causing the camera and sensors to become inoperable, and the vehicle gives a warning saying “parking aid: malfunction! Obstacles cannot be detected” only after the mmi system has rebooted. When this occurs while reversing, not only a car but a pedestrian may be passing behind me and I would not know. This issue also causes the car to randomly ask for a pin to log in to the mmi after rebooting randomly (there is no pin that exists for any users in my vehicle and even asks when i am on a guest user), creating further distractions while driving like when i may need to use navigation, especially when the system reboots repeatedly five to six times within a ten minute time frame. This issue has been recurrent from 3/13/2025 to present 7/13/2025

My car has been under a recall since 2023. I have been at the dealership for normal maintenance and for the recall several times now but the dealership/Audi says that it's monitoring the battery remotely and doesn't replace the battery. No fix has been done until now and the recall/fix keeps being delayed.

Starting in around February the MMI (central computer system) system started rebooting at random times while the car was started. At first, I thought there must be something wrong with just my car. I took it into the dealer, and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I did some research and found many other people are having the same issues (thread has over 550 posts linked at the bottom) with the year model and they all started at the same time. I reached out to Audi International, and they say they've never heard of the issue, it's not widespread and to take it to the dealer (which is clearly a lie given the linked thread), when I took it to the dealer, they said Audi international needs to provide and update. Many people on the thread have been told the same thing by Audi and it is extremely frustrating that it's been 5 months, and they continue to deny anything is wrong. I feel this is a major safety issue due to the fact it is extremely distracting while driving and trying to use maps. I took a ~2-hour drive yesterday and the MMI rebooted around 100 times. The other extremely concerning safety issue is if it reboots while parked or in reverse, you lose the backup camera as well as all the proximity sensors until the car is restarted. I know many people have also filed complaints with the NHTSA and Audi International and I'm hoping with enough people speaking up someone will listen and force Audi to provide a solution. The MMI (multimedia interface) screen goes dead and reboots frequently (every 2-5 minutes) while driving. It is extremely frustrating and distracting. In addition, when the screen blacks out while driving in reverse, the backup camera, back up sensors and cross traffic warning systems do not operate until the system reboots, which can take several minutes. This problem occurs constantly while driving and requires me to re-enter navigation destination while driving. Using CarPlay for navigation is also affected, as the system reboots whether or not I am using a secondary media source like CarPlay, and I have to re-enter the destination whenever the MMI reboots. Also the MMI needs me to re-enter user information on the screen with every failure in order to get the system running again, which is very distracting while driving. I am not even able to turn off the screen to avoid the distraction, as it will automatically fail and reboot while turned off. This will turn the screen back on in the start-up mode and cause the radio to turn on randomly. When this happens, the stereo volume will sometimes come back on, and other times it appears to be playing music and radio stations, but the volume control will not work. Then it will randomly come back on very loud. The distractions are unavoidable, as I would be happy to just leave the MMI system off, but it is not possible! Please require Audi to fix this problem!!! The dealer/manufacturer does not seem to be interested in fixing the issue, as is evidenced by the many complaints I have found on the NHTSA website.

Audi MMI display constantly shuts off and turns back on with a message about this user not being used despite using it everyday. This happens all the time and has been on going for months. It is dangerous when I’m relying on it for navigation. I have not had this issue looked at at an Audi dealership but have read this issue seems to be widespread with 2020 models. The issue is ongoing and only seems to be getting worse.

The entire MMI shuts down anywhere from every 30 seconds to 5-6 minutes. It has to then completely reboot, gives a pop up that “user has not been in vehicle for an extended amount of time” - I tried trouble shooting with Audi care over the phone, re added myself as a registered user with remote rights - makes me type my pin every time this happens. The safety risks are the distraction it takes from driving, especially when I am using it for navigation in an unfamiliar area, often getting lost and flustered and distracted

Water/rain leaking through sunroof/light electrical panel replaced by Audi dealer once before, now it is leaking once again. Bringing it back to Audi to see why this keeps happening after I was told it would not happen after it was replaced.

The MMI system on my 2020 Audi A4 Allroad will reset randomly while I am driving. This will occur while I'm driving and is very frustrating and dangerous, especially when using the MMI for navigation. I've reached out to the dealership regarding warranty, but have yet to hear back. From online forums, this has become a recent issue across many 2020 A4s. People have been forced to pay $500 for a software update that may or may not resolve the issue.

The 2020 Audi A4 models seem to be experiencing in an outs through the MMI system. They car will reboot multiple times during a drive. I began receiving this around June 23, 2025. They claim it is a software issue however many have not come to a conclusion or fix. This is impairing driving because i am not able to utilize hands free driving which now is a law within many states. Please look into this issue and push the fix amongst all of us drivers on the road.

The car sunroof has started leaking in which for they have released an extended warranty. Although my car at this falls under the 80,000 mile limit the dealership refuses to work in the car. This is a hazard as batteries and water do not work together as this is a electric car.
