2017 AUDI Q7- Hopedale, MA
Rear coil spring on passenger side broke and became detached, wedging against lower control arm. Coil spring had no signs of other damage; seems to be defective metallurgy. While there was no immediate safety issue, a broken spring during driving could cause the operator to lose control. Additionally, unless you heard it break, there is no way to know that it is broken and under additional stress which is an ongoing safety concern. There was no warning that the spring would break or had broken. Others have reported hearing loud "pops" when the spring breaks. From online search, there seems to be a high number of Audi Q7's from 2017-2019 model years with this problem, but Audi dealers claim it is a 'normal wear' item and is not covered."

The contact owns a 2014 Audi S8. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the low oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. However, afterwards the contact stated that the low oil warning light illuminated again, after which there was a burning odor inside the vehicle, and the vehicle lost significant motive power. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000.

2018 AUDI R8- daphne, AL
The car was involved in a fatal crash where the side impact airbag (side of fatality) failed to deploy and the EDR failed to fully comply with Part 563 requirements. All other airbags and rollover system deployed but the EDR recorded only the deployment of the side impact airbag on the driver side. The EDR included 6 events and some of them have severity less than the threshold required by the regulation. There was a criminal investigation and trial as a result of the fatality and the state witnesses explained this failure due to the fact the airbag deployed so fast so the EDR could not record it. I believe the EDR failed to record the crash event correctly and also failed to deploy the side impact airbag on the passenger side, This is evident from the fact that there are 4 other airbags and a rollover protection system that were deployed and the EDR, contrary to Part 563, failed to record them.

2019 AUDI Q5- Lawrenceville, GA
Clock spring I drive a 2019 Volkswagen Audi Q5. My vehicle was serviced on [XXX]. After the service I received a video message saying “overall my vehicle appeared to be in excellent condition”. The following day I was out running errands and the airbag light came on. I thought it may be a glitch due to something that happened during the service. Based on my driving, my signal and the control panels were working as I was able to adjust the radio and call my mother using the steering wheel controls. I contacted the dealership initially I was told because it was Saturday, It would be Monday before anyone could assist me. However, about 15 minutes later, the serviceman, David, who took care of me on Friday called me back. After discussion, he told me I could bring my vehicle in. I brought the vehicle in and waited approximately an hour. The service man later told me that it was the clock spring; however, they were not sure what exactly was wrong with the clock spring. I was placed in a rental and told they would contact me later. Before close of the service department on Saturday, I received a call from the service man who stated it was indeed the spring. He did not specify what exactly was the problem, but that it would need to be replaced. I was looking at cost of $1600. He also told me this is unusual given the number miles that I have on the vehicle I know that Volkswagen has had issues with the clock spring on some of its vehicles. Therefore I am wondering could this potentially be a problem with some Audi vehicles as well? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2024 AUDI Q5- Land O Lakes, FL
2024 Audi Q5, VIN: [XXX] Purchase Date: [XXX] The automatic tailgate has a foot sensing devise to open or close the tailgate. The problem is that when I am loading or unloading from the luggage area, my foot sometimes activates the sensor and the tailgate tries to close on top of me. I have not been injured yet, but it takes a significant force to overpower the tailgate and stop it. This happened on the first day I got the vehicle and has happened at least 5 more time since then. The dealer checked the vehicle and told me there were no problems shown in the OBD. I told them that I would like the foot sensor deactivated or disconnected. They told me they could not do that. 2018 AUDI Q5- Wayzata, MN
Rear spring has broken at 50k miles. This is a potentially catastrophic outcome at speed. Vehicle is not used for towing or any sort of off road use. Estimate from the dealer was $2000 to replace both rear springs. The dealer said that "it happens" and would not cover the failure. The car is driven as a commuting car - really? After some online research, apparently this is a somewhat common issue that Audi refuses to acknowledge or address - it's a "maintenance item". Sorry - this is a safety issue. No spring should fail at 50k miles.
