2015 CHEVROLET COLORADO Complaints

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the messages "Service Power Steering" and "Service Stabili-trac" were displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 92,000.

Unknown other than I requested Vernon Chevrolet in CT repair my recall on January 2, 2023 but have yet to hear back

Power steering keeps cutting out as well as stabilitrak, after supposedly being fixed under the 2015 recall. Original recall wasn't even done properly according to the recall informational sheet. Second recall in 2021, I never received any recall letters, now dealership are saying I am out of recall warranty and want me to replace the entire steering rack assembly instead of just the torque sensor cover as stated in the revised 2021 recall, this is an inherent safety issue that has been recalled multiple times now so it should be covered or at least replaced properly.

I lost power steering while driving the truck. My safety was put at risk because I lost power steering in a curve without warning. I have not had a chance to take it into a dealer yet but this has happened twice. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone yet. No warnings prior to losing the power steering just went out all of a sudden.

Was in a drive thru line luckily, was pulling out to leave and light came up on dash reading “Service power steering, drive with care.” The steering wheel would barely budge. Luckily drove off to side and turned car off. Waiting a few seconds and the light went off and everything was working like normal again. This was actually the second time in a week this happened. The other time was pulling out of my driveway, so I have been lucky where this has happened. I saw some vehicles have been recalled for this, but not mine for some reason and I am having the exact isssues.

Power Steering failure, while vehicle in motion. Warning message of same. Additional indication that "stabili track" is off line. Back up camera also does not function when this error is present. Turning vehicle off *usually* allows the system to function again when restarted. Not always. Steering becomes very difficult after this failure... certainly dangerous. Can yank wheel out of my hands if it occurs in a turn. Temperature seems to be a factor as this has happened many dozens of times in the past few years. On cold days (near freezing) the system seems more reliable. On warmer days, failures are frequent. Appears to match previous recall(s), but this VIN is not on recall list.

The power steering assist may be lost due to a poor electrical connection within the steering gear assembly. A loss of power steering, particularly at lower speeds increases the risk of a crash.

Often on startup, though sometimes while driving, I will get a message on the dash to "Service Power Steering", and the steering wheel will become very hard to turn. This is not something you would want to have happen mid curve while driving as it could very well cause a crash. There was a recall on my truck model for this exact problem, but my VIN# was not on the recall and GM/Chevrolet refuses to pay for it to be fixed. I took it to a Chevrolet dealership for a diagnosis and the truck was giving them a code for "steering wheel torque sensor".

The contact stated that the power steering service warning light was illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the road and restarted the vehicle but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the torque sensor kit to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

Transmision in this vehicle is the worst,and could be dangerous for novice drivers.I've read plaged problems with these vehicles and transmissions after I purchased it.Transmision jerky,shutters.You go to take off and it switches in to low gears too soon and causes the vehicle to vibrate.Sometimes slips between 4th and 5th gear.Also when giving a little bit of throttle sometimes vehicle acts like your flooring it,in rainy or icy weather can cause back wheels to spin causing fish tailing.Had it happen couple times.I've read torque converter problems,and some under a campaign have been replaced.This vehicle has low mileage for a 2015 (83,000)
