    - Oakdale , MN

My truck has been into the dealership repeatedly from Aug 2024 to where it sits now to this day because of the engine and the electronic fuel management system. This fuel management system has destroyed my engine by allowing excessive oil consumption to which it turns the oil black. The engine goes from v8 to 4 cylinder to save on fuel which makes the engine work harder. It causes the rocker arms and pistons to work harder which makes them fail. These problems have occurred with my truck and now the dealership wants 20,000 to replace the engine when they worked on it continuously even after my warranty period had expired. Keep in mind that they were still fixing these problems when my warranty hadn't expired yet they fail to fix it properly. I make payments on a truck that I hardly ever get to drive. I have service invoices to back up my claims. There are numerous others that are dealing with this problem and it's all over the internet so i am not the only person

  • 2016 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500
    - Patterson, CA

The contact owned a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became stiff and then loosened. The steering started turning independently and was uncontrollable. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. The power steering warning light and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who declined to repair it due to the vehicle having an active recall. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer who also declined to perform the recall repair because the vehicle had a salvage title. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

Vehicle: 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Issue: Infotainment system failure after GM-pushed OTA update Description of Problem: On 10/31/2025, my vehicle’s infotainment system attempted an over-the-air software update. The update failed and the screen has been locked ever since, displaying only the message: “Update Failed – Return to Dealer.” As a result: - I cannot access any settings (clock, preferences, system menus). - All warning chimes and signal sounds (turn signal click, seatbelt reminder, back seat reminder, etc.) are disabled. - The backup camera still functions, but no other infotainment features are usable. - The system is completely unresponsive to reset attempts. I brought the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer, who verified that it was the OTA update that caused the failure, they attempted a reflash but was unsuccessful. They now claim the entire infotainment unit must be replaced at my expense, even though the failure was caused by GM’s own update which I neither approved, initiated, or requested. My vehicle is out of warranty, but this was not a wear-and-tear issue — it was introduced by GM’s software. Safety Concern: The loss of audible warnings and chimes poses a safety risk. Drivers rely on these alerts for seatbelt reminders, turn signal confirmation, and other critical notifications. A manufacturer-pushed update disabled these among other functions including radio, navigation, and all vehicle settings. Resolution Attempts: - Dealer attempted reprogramming on 11/6 (charged $295) but failed and state I need a new infotainment system. - GM Customer Assistance refused to provide goodwill coverage. - Vehicle remains stuck in failed update state as pictured. Request: I am submitting this complaint because GM’s OTA update disabled core safety features of my vehicle along with other basic features such as radio. I believe this is a manufacturer defect that should be investigated and addressed, regardless of warranty status.

  • 2023 CHEVROLET TAHOE
    - San Mateo, CA

As the owner of a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, I am currently experiencing persistent issues with the instrument cluster going dark and a severely malfunctioning GM 6.2L L87 engine. In November of the previous year, I encountered a sudden and alarming loss of engine power while traveling on a multilane highway at a speed of 70 mph. I successfully maneuvered the vehicle to a narrow shoulder, where I remained, accompanied by a Highway Patrol officer, for over three hours until a tow truck arrived. The GM certified dealership informed me that the engine was seized. The mechanics were unable to start or manually turn the engine. Upon removal of the engine’s oil pan, they found metal fragments in the oil. After having undergone an engine recall “fix” three months earlier, which included an inspection and oil service change to a more viscous 0W - 40, a new oil filter, and a new filler cap; in November, my engine failed and was replaced with a new 6.2L L87 engine. Initially, I was pleased with the repair, but I have since lost confidence that my car is safe after the new engine began exhibiting symptoms of a pending failure. The Tahoe hesitates on acceleration when merging with highway traffic, the engine dies when decelerating, the check engine light flashes at highway speeds, and the instrument cluster turns off at random. The vehicle that has been outfitted with a brand new engine is currently at the Chevrolet dealership; however, just like in August of 2025 during the Recall inspection, the mechanics there were unable to find any problems with their work or the new engine. They simply erased the stored P0300 engine diagnostics codes and ignored my evidence video, which showed the check engine light blinking at highway speeds. Despite the repair attempts, the issues have not been resolved, and the vehicle continues to pose a safety hazard.
