2017 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN Complaints

Passenger side rear sliding door is stuck closed. I transport my grandchildren in this vehicle and this poses a SERIOUS safety hazard if involve in an accident or fire!

In January 2022,at approximately 75,000 miles, vehicle began to have a major oil leak and smell of oil in the cabin. A mechanic determined the oil filter housing had failed and it was replaced for $808.63.Mechanic also stated this is a very common issue with Dodge 3.6L engines. No warning lamps illuminated. Dodge customer service was contacted about the problem and stated there were no open recalls and would not reimburse me for the repairs.

The passenger sliding door power lock has failed, and will not operate. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. The lack of power locks on the passenger sliding door is a danger because it's supposed to lock automatically when you get up to speed to prevent accidental openings. Those back seats are also where young children in car seats are placed (it's a minivan, after all), and they can be unable to operate the door manually. In addition, I only recently noticed it would not lock, but I have no idea when it started failing, so having an unlocked door when you THINK it's locked is also dangerous. Yes, the problem has been reproduced. Yes, the vehicle has been inspected by a dealership. No, there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms, and I do not know when it may have started. I only noticed it in January 2022, when one of my passengers (a child) was impatient to get into the car, and simply happened to start pulling on what we THOUGHT was a locked door. I hadn't unlocked the vehicle yet, so I checked, and, indeed, all the other doors were still locked. I eventually figured out the problem, that this door, the passenger sliding door, has a malfunctioning power lock.

The driver's side sliding door is stuck and locked. Unable to manually unlock nor use key fob nor use button above the rearview mirror. My children were unable to exit out that side and now fear it happening to the passenger side as well. Upon googling and reading many different websites it seems that this has been happening out of the blue for years and with MANY different years of this van. We were given no warnings, no noises, nothing to make us aware there could be a problem with the door.

Left sliding door is stuck. Unable to open inside and outside. Some times the smell of burned plastic. In state of emergency it is impossible to evacuate from the car.

Drive side sliding door doesn't work,a safety problem if get in accident people could be trapped . Worked 2 days ago, Nothing will make it open Says need to unlock door but won't unlock, Carry my grand kids ,worry about get in crash an can't get them out .

MY HUSBAND PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE. HE PLACED THE CARAVAN IN PARK AND LEFT IT RUNNING. I HAD TO RUN INTO THE RESTAURANT TO GRAB THE PIZZA. AFTER I HAD CLOSED THE PASSENGER DOOR THE HEADREST POPPED APART. I KNOW THAT IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE AND ONLY GOES OFF IF THERE IS AN IMPACT. THERE WERE ZERO IMPACTS OR ACCIDENTS. THERE WAS A PARKED CAR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BUT NO ONE WAS IN IT.

Drivers side passenger door lock stuck in locked position. Door will not open automatically and can not be opened manually.

Rear sliding door actuator for the door lock seized causing the door to be permanently shut with no way to manually open it. This is a safety issue that should be addressed.

The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that both the driver’s and passenger’s side sliding door locks would remain stuck in the locked position. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
