2010 DODGE JOURNEY Complaints

Brake system has ongoing and continuous defects, malfunctions and failure. I have had calipers fall off and pr stick causing the wheel to overheat and melt the tire rim. Replaced all that. Brakes never seem strong enough to properly stop this vehicle safely. Brake lights stay off and on light a Christmas tree. Had several inspections for code errors. Replace entire system in January of 2023. $1,800. Less than 500 miles later, another caliper sticks, then snaps causing entire break assembly to move, damaging yet another wheel rim. I love this vehicle. The room, style. But it's not safe. I've almost caused an accident on the road 3 times due to this useless brake system. This last incident put me in a ditch. It's still in the mechanics shoo. Severe wheel damage this time.

The contact called on behalf of his mother-in-law who owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the vehicle was displaying erroneous electrical functions. The contact stated that the windows would roll up and down, the windshield wipers would suddenly activate, the exterior lights would illuminate, the doors would lock and unlock, and the horn would sound. The vehicle also suddenly stalled while driving at various speeds and while also while idling. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the key fob however, the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted and offered to change the fuse box; however, the repair was not performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,199.

Follow-up with the article in regards to a possible electrical problems in older Dodge Journey after a woman was trapped and died when her SUV caught fire in December. Issues reported warning lights started flashing, windshield wipers came on, the horn started honking, windows wouldn't go down and the doors wouldn't unlock. Those are of the TIPM that have been reported for years and nothing has been done. I have personal experienced everything that others witnessed with 2009 except for I have not had a fire yet, I have been stuck in my vehicle for times due to window won't go down and doors will not unlock. Horn , lights, wipers, continue to go off I have to pull fuses out all the time just so not to disturb the neighbors as it happens at all hours not just when driving it. It caused a brand new battery to swell up that was caught by a mechanic, the TIPM has been changed 2 times now and still have issues along with the battery was replaced 3 times so far and maybe this is why I have not had a fire because I continue to get a new one. While driving my engine caught on fire. My safety was put at risk because I had to pull over and get out the car. Flames started coming from the hood of the car. I just dropped my newborn baby off 10 minutes prior and was around the corner from picking up my other child. I had to call 911 and wait for the fire department to come. I tried to put it out myself but the fire was too great and I was afraid it would explode. My check engine light was on but I was told it was for an old misfire. I haven’t not had any issues with my vehicle, I drive it to work everyday. Vehicle has not been inspected by insurance as I do not currently have active insurance on vehicle. Chrysler customer service states because vehicle is 13 years old they are not liable. No dodge dealership will look at vehicle because it will be difficult to find issue alas the vehicle is totaled. There is a recall R32 starting in 2011 for this model. My engine although made in 2010 is the same engine in the recall. 2.4 liter 4 cylinder.

The airbag light came on intermittently but now has stayed permanently. The suspension of the car become almost uncontrollably bouncy with the slightest dip or hump on the road. The bouncing continues for a couple miles and at times does make steering difficult. The tires are 4 months old and the car has been serviced at regular intervals.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH with the cruise control activated, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact attempted to deactivate the cruise control feature however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle slowed down and the contact was able to pull over to the side of the roadway and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic however, the independent mechanic found no failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 10,000.

No heat in the front but somewhat heat in the rear back seats have change a lot of things to try to fix but still no heat for the front or second row only the 3rd row

When starting the auto can't put it in reverse or drive. Sometimes can't start car unless I put the key in alternator and place in neutral.

My significant other and I were driving to cedar point with our kids and I was in the passenger seat. The headrest literally shoved my head forward. No accidents or anything. It just happened out of no where! This is very dangerous and considering it went off what if it was the driver seat and I was driving! This could have caused an accident.

The contact stated that she would disconnect the horn fuse per the Owner’s Manual. However, the failure would reoccur whenever the fuse was reconnected. The contact stated that the failure was draining the battery and the battery was replaced several times. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and shut off while driving on three different occasions. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and jumpstarted the vehicle with assistance. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred increasingly and the vehicle failed to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) module was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
