2020 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

Weld on driver side front door for door limiting rod has broke. Door is difficult to close. Started with grinding sound inside door with popping friction prior to weld completely failing.

My vehicle is exhibiting the issues described in SSM 50150. The driver's side door spot welds have failed on my 2020 Ford Escape hybrid. The issue began as a creaking sound as I opened and closed my driver's side front door. The door was also stiff and difficult to operate. 2 days later the door became even more difficult to open and close. A day after that the door welds failed. After the weld failure the door moved freely except the door catch would jam due to it floating. To allow proper door operation of the door the catch had to be unbolted at the body. After the failure I noticed the door panel around the area of the welds is pushed outward and no longer flush with the door along the edges. Also, since the issue began, the window strains whenever I try to raise and lower it and the window cannot be lowered all the way. My assumption is that the catch is tied to the window track. The window track and door catch appear to be associated with the broken welds. I brought the matter to the Ford dealership's attention, citing SSM 50150. They advised me that the vehicle was out of warranty, that the repair was not part of any mandatory recall and that the estimated repair cost was $2,083.14. They noted the possibility of Ford contributing a couple hundred dollars to defray the repair costs.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the front driver's side door had three fractured spot welds and that the front driver's side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000. The VIN was unavailable.

The drivers door started making a popping noise when opened and then the welds on the door broke. Drivers side window would not go down.

Drivers door has broken spot welds. Loud snaps when door is opened or closed. Power window won't go down all the way. From what I'm reading the door could just open up as you are driving down the road. Door checker bar needs to be replaced. Part #lj6z7823552 b.

The contact stated that the driver's side front door was difficult to open and was also very difficult to close. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with a failed door check arm weld. The contact was informed that the door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

Driver side door hinge/weld breaks. The metal pops, makes a loud sound, door then has to be forced shut. Due to this the window and lock does not work. Driver side door broke first and now the passenger side door has done the same exact thing.

While 360 miles away from home, the drivers side door made a popping noise, the window and controls in the door would not work, the window cracked and the door would not work properly. The window would not operate and remained halfway down cracked and broken, the rearview mirrors would not operate. I went to a dealership and was told that this was a recurring problem with this particular vehicle and that the door hinge welds had broken. The only warning I got was a popping noise inside of the door.

My door sounds like it is going to fall off. It is making a very loud popping noise when I open it the whole way.

Drivers side door has become unwelded. Started as a popping sound and now the door is getting harder to close, the window does not roll down.
