2017 FORD EXPEDITION Complaints

Vehicle was jerking and a wrench illuminated on panel. Was able to get out of traffic to side of road but very dangerous as we had to just coast to safety. Took vehicle to dealership...code threw for throttle active stuck. This happened on March 23, 2022. Than again on July 23, 2022, was on interstate and wrench illuminated and again stalled. 75 Mph traffic and thank goodness we was able to clear traffic to side of road. Limped home. 1st incident mileage was 118395. And second incident 128024.3

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. I purchased my Ford Expedition new in January 2018 and have driven it 40,000 miles. When I took it to Wyatt Johnson Ford yesterday for a routine oil change and tire rotation, I was told that it has "Swollen lug nuts." I have Extended Plus Elite New warranty, Ultimate Titanium Plus warranty, and Perma Plate Appearance Protection warranty; but was told that the warranties would not cover replacement of the swollen lug nuts. Apparently this is a poor design and Ford should redesign the lug nuts and issue a recall.

While driving out of parking lot during a very warm day (100 degrees), A/C blower was on high as normal: 1. A/C blower suddenly stopped working. 2. A smell of something burning became evident inside car 3. Suddenly smoke started coming out of passenger side defroster and A/C vent 4. After passenger exited vehicle, I went to look under passenger glove compartment and discovered a small fire under dash. Tried to douse flames with water bottles, but with no effect. 5. Opened glove compartment box and flames came out of opening immediately. 6. Witnessed a small size soup can and melting plastic fall on passenger floor of dripping fire 7. Fire spread suddenly up into dash and windshield and then cabin 8. Called 911 and fire department arrived within 3-4 minutes. 9. Fire became an inferno and car burnt to the ground

While driving with two of our younger children, our 18 year old daughter noticed the brake warning light came on and the brakes failed to the point that the pedal had to be depressed completely to the floor to get any braking power, which was considerably diminished. After taking the car in to the mechanic, we learned we needed a new master cylinder and brake booster because the original set was defective. We also then learned of the current related recall for 2016-2017 Ford Expeditions (NHTSA Recall No. 22V-150) yet our VIN is somehow inexplicably excluded. We had the repair done (see attached invoice) as otherwise the vehicle was unsafe for driving. We are just grateful that no one was hurt as it was a terrifying experience. The recall needs to be expanded immediately before someone is seriously injured, or worse.

Our car experienced a failed Throttle Body Assembly. While driving our car, the engine would lose power, and the car would start to violently shake. The wrench light would come on the dash. We would have to pull over whether we were on the highway or a city street. Once we turned the car off and back on the wrench light would disappear. We took the car to our mechanic who could not figure out the issue due to no codes. The Ford dealership told us the same thing as our mechanic - without a code(s) it would take a lot of time and money to figure out the problem. Finally after several (at least 5 time) scary occurrences of this issue, the engine light came on and gave a code. We fixed the issue on June 23, 2022.

Brake master cylinder began leaking and filled the brake booster with fluid. Vehicle lost all ability to brake while driving down road. Took to dealership as I believe it should be included in existing recall for same issue. They repaired the issue with a new master cylinder and brake booster. but I paid for it as I was told it isn’t included in recall.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the brake warning light illuminated and an alert flashed that brake fluid needed to be added. The contact had to slow the vehicle due to traffic and had to depress the brake pedal nearly to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Brake master cylinder is allowing brake fluid to leak. I almost rear ended someone because out of nowhere, the brake alert light and chime came on, then the brake petal went “soft”and I had to literally had to push ut to the floor for my expedition to stop. It is in the shop now being repaired.

The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact depressed the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard and the vehicle responded. The contact drove to her residence. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Services Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,871.
