After the engine would warm up a loud knocking started without warning lights. After driving it to the dealer they stated, "You need a new engine, it probably had a blown rear main". The engine has 154,550 nearly all freeway miles. Regular maintenance. No prior issues other that a deer strike, which was repaired.

The transmission has been repaired previously with the valve body replacement. It seems to be better but has hesitation or lag with upshifting still.

While parking my car in my driveway as I turned the car off I heard a loud explosion in the car. There was some smoke coming out of the passenger side seatbelt area of the frame. I could smile gunpowder. The interior trim piece around the seat belt had come loose. There was a warning sign that had come on that day and I was going to check it out this weekend. I had the dealership come and get the car to check it out. I looked at an article from you that this has happened before and I think it was the seatbelt pretensior. Thanks

It will randomly have high rpms like it is shifting out of gear when not needed. There are no lights or codes. It hasn’t been inspected by dealer. It is a common problem on ford expeditions. My friend is having the exact same problem and you can find it all over the internet of other consumers have the same problem as well. It is dangerous to drive if it malfunctions while on the road with traffic especially with children in the car.
