2019 FORD EXPEDITION Complaints

Complete failure of the timing chain components. Vehicle completely shut down while driving on the interstate, almost causing me to get rear ended. The problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership. They stated this is a very common issue and "they're not sure why Ford had done a recall on the timing chain and timing chain components." No warning lights ever came on, the only symptom that occurred was the timing chain rattle on cold starts.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle started shaking abnormally upon startup. The contact also heard an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer. The contact was informed that the camshaft phase sensor was the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

My Expedition Windshield fluid leaks into my front passenger floor rug. Safety issue can’t clean windshield without fluid in the tank as it is leaking into front passenger floor rug.

I reported this incident once already and since then 2 more 2019 For Expedition had the exact same issue. The seatbelt tensioner charge blew up for no reason while vehicle was stopped and running. This is a very dangerous problem as I almost heart attack, I thought I was shot. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AND DON'T WASH IT UNDER THE RUG. TO THIS DAY I'M AFRAID OF DRIVING MY EXPEDITION FO FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN.

Car has 49700 miles. I was traveling on highway at speed and tried to accelerate to merge into exit lane traffic and engine and power train completely cut out and transmission failure light with wrench came on. Luckily cars behind me were able to slow down and avoid an accident but this could have been deadly. Thank God my children were not in the car. Car was previously taken to dealership in January of 2023 for transmission shifting issues and repair work was done. Car is also “hard shifting” into gear from park, causing whole car to jerk. Car routinely “hard shifts” when accelerating onto highway and “hard shifts” when slowing in rush hour traffic.

The vehicle was turned off and restarted; however, the failure persisted for approximately 3-seconds. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while cold starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 21N03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included, and that the campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,400.

Transmission problems - slipping, shifting delays, clunking sounds, losing power, hard shifting. Cam phasers - rattling on cold start Car is available for inspection Shifting delay was confirmed by dealership service department. 4 VCT units and gaskets have been replaced once already to fix cam phasers rattle in 2/21, but issue is happening again. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. No warning lamps or other messages.

Vehicle parked and had just been started. Went to put on dvr seatbelt and a loud explosion happened to my left and the seatbelt shoulder strap was pulled out of my fingers. The driver seatbelt pretensioner activated without a collision and the cab filled with smoke. Vehicle has never been in a collision, ever had a restraint malfunction, is the original OEM safety component, and hasn’t been serviced/replaced for a seatbelt/airbag issue. Now, the air bag light is activated and the seatbelt is tightly fully retracted to the pillar so tight it can’t be moved at all. Access to the onboard computer can verify all the above info. Dealership stated there was an activation of the pretensioned charge on the driver seatbelt resulting in the belt fully retracting and the seatbelt no longer functioning. 2nd 2019 Ford Expedition they have seen this week with the same mishap. If this would have deployed at highway speeds, a driver may have been startled due to the loud explosion in the cab and lost control of the vehicle (I was parked). Smoke immediately entered the occupant compartment. The seat belt retracted so quickly/tightly, injury to one’s chest would have occurred.

Cam phasers gone bad even after doing a ‘reprogram’ that Ford listed as a recall. Ford then sent out a Customer Satisfaction Extension to replace the cam phasers (that we never received) but we missed the expiration date so now they are refusing to cover any of the service or parts. This is a known issue for the 3.5 engine, yet consumers are paying thousands out of pocket for a known issue.
