2014 FORD F-150 Complaints

About 3 weeks ago, I started having issues with the truck where the tachometer would jump to redline at the same time the speedometer would drop to 0 driving at 30-40 MPH. The rear wheels locked up twice. This has happened 3 more times since it started 3 weeks ago. The code that came up on the truck was P0720, which is the output speed sensor. Ford issued a recall on 2011-2013 year models for the exact same issue. Mine is a 2014 model with the same exact transmission (6R80) having the exact same problem as the recall models. Luckily the issue hasn't caused an accident for me. That of course can change if it happens again before I am able to get it repaired. Today when it happened I was on the highway driving 65-70 MPH fortunately the rear wheels did not lock up. A wrench symbol appears on the odometer which is "LIMP MODE" and began decelerating on a highway with moderate traffic that could've caused an accident because I couldn't accelerate. I have 30 plus years of driving experience. This situation is very dangerous especially for inexperienced drivers even worse with drivers being distracted with their phones these days.

Vehicle failed annual State (VA) safety inspection on 7/13/2023 due to Power Brake Booster issue. I see there is a recall out (NSTA#20V332) on Ford F150 for this issue but not on my VIN. Brakes are mushy and stopping time is increased.

Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V316000 (Steering) which he linked to the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

I was driving in the highway at 65mph when suddenly the transmission shifted to 1st gear, almost causing a serious accident. There are several reports of the same problem in the internet., Ford did a recall for the 2011-2013 models but not for the 2014 which have the same components.

The contact was able to stop them by continuing to depress the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and booster pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she was informed by the manufacturer that a recall repair was completed in December 2016 and that the warranty had expired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. I was driving down the highway at about 75 miles an hour and the vehicle slipped gears likely down to 1st. The rear wheels locked and the vehicle jolted almost as if I had run into something. After that it carried on normally. There were no indicator lights or errors that popped up. It came completely without warning. I took the vehicle in to a local mechanic. They serviced the transmission but did not find any reason for the vehicle to have dropped gears like that. About three days after getting the vehicle back I was again driving down the highway at about 75 miles an hour, the wrench light came on, my speedometer dropped to zero, my odometer cleared, and my gas/mpg cleared all while the vehicle continued down the highway. The airbag light also illuminated and stayed on but the wrench light turned back off again. I pulled over and restarted the vehicle and everything cleared and the vehicle continued as normal. It drove normally for the rest of my drive as well as my drive home. The next morning it did the same thing. As others have mentioned this is a clear safety issue as instruments are just shutting down as the vehicle moves at a high rate of speed and I have to keep pulling over and restarting the vehicle. I luckily have been in areas of low traffic as all of these issues have occurred but there could have been a number of different outcomes had the vehicle locked up while in a higher traffic area traffic. I do not feel that the vehicle is safe to operate and having just had it serviced at two mechanics and neither finding any major issues to cause these problems, I feel that this is a major safety issue with the vehicle itself.

The check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle abruptly slowed down causing the rear tires to slide. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission harness needed to be replaced. The transmission harness was unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 93,000.

The contact stated that while pulling out of a parking space and attempting to a stop the vehicle, the brake pedal depressed down to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. After a visual inspection, the contact observed that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. The contact topped off the brake fluid reservoir however, three minutes later the reservoir was again empty. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The contact investigated and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V345000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.

There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
