2022 GMC SIERRA 1500 Complaints

The failure involved the engine (6.2L L87 V8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at Dennis GM in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning. The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized GM dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to Dennis GM following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.

Vehicle battery dies and dealer cannot source issue. Voltmeter shows large fluctuations in voltage while vehicle is running and driving.

A few weeks ago my adaptive cruise stopped working, as well as the automatic high beam system (not sure the technical name). As there was a warning light displayed, I brought it into the dealership to have them check it out. The technician jumped in really quick, made some changes within the control panel, and the light came off. As I drove out and tried to use the adaptive cruise control, it didn't work and I almost went into the back of a truck. That all being said, I brought it back into the dealer last week for them to diagnose the problem as a failed front windshield camera. I find it hard to believe that this camera can fail at 50k miles, and the repair with parts and labor costing approximately $1000. This is an advanced system designed to improve the driver experience and heavily marketed. Considering this is tied to safety in some capacity, shouldn't GM cover this repair? I quickly googled the issue and found others have had the same failure. The camera system combined with the control panel covers so many applications, I would be concerned about other issues with the truck. Not to mention the massive recall of my L87 engine and water pump failure that I have also dealt with. I appreciate you taking the time to read my rant. Not sure if this will do anything, but it would be nice to have some sort of relief from the OEM due to the issues I have already experienced owning this truck.

Bought truck 0n 12/26/2025 from lot in Michigan had it transported to Missouri. First time I drive it Check Engine comes on and goes into "Limp Mode". Had it towed to GM Dealer and they say it was the high pressure fuel pump. Got it back and check engine light comes back on then goes off then back on again. Not happy at all!!!

While driving at 72moh, the engine started to knock/tick and then shifted into neutral indicating to press the start button again. Once I coasted to a stop, the truck shifted into park by itself and indicated to hit the start button again at which point it was completely locked up and inoperable. The vehicle had an engine replaced at 13,000 miles and currently has 54,000 miles on it. It now needs another complete engine replacement. The vehicle also had the recall inspection done in DEC/2025 and found no issues.

While driving on the road the vehicle started sputtering and stalled! We pulled to the side of the road and tried to start the car but it rolled and would not start. We called a a mechanic who had it towed and found out that the fuel pump and the fuel control board had failed. Both have been replaced and the truck seems to be working again. Heard several other persons had this issue with their GCM Sierra Elevation so we wanted to report since there is currently no recall. Luckily the traffic was not going that fast or we could have had an accident and been seriously injured.

The engine decided to make some noise and all I heard was Ching Ching Ching, and it just died and I was unable to start it again

Electrical system…battery is completely dead after short in tailgate button. Yesterday afternoon I washed out the bed and tailgate. This is important to know as a result of my research. Several hours later I go out to the truck and the tailgate is open unexpectedly, thought I had left it opened. After going to dinner and shopping with family I tried to open tailgate with tailgate button and it would not work. After several attempts I then used my FOB button, worked. The next morning I go out and the tailgate is opened not by me, I closed it. Got to my destination put truck in park and tailgate opened by itself. I closed it. Went inside grabbed what I needed 15 min later go back to truck and tailgate is open..I close it. I go to start truck and battery is dead. Confirmed by battery plus in Medford oregon. Did some research and see that a recall has been issued for this same reason: N232426400 Tailgate May Open Unexpectedly. Yes the recall does not cover my vim however I believe this needs to be as a result of the cause and effect you have already confirmed. Today is Sunday. I will contact local gmc dealer though I wanted to start a formal process.

2022 gmc sierra The tailgate is electrical which cause safety awareness and concern due to the tailgate opening by itself. The tailgate seems to continuously electronically open and continue to release the latch causing the tail gate to open possibly loosing cargo from the bed or tailgate opening and hitting other vehicles that may park too close or cause damage on a hitch if available. It is a persisten issue and I have seen too many complaints. This should be looked at and recalled by manufacture or dealers it’s become a very common issues for gmc trucks and a lot of upset customers. I’m one of them.

front upper grille trim violently ripped off while driving down the highway. hit windshield and flew up and over the car into traffic on the highway.
