2023 GMC SIERRA 1500 Complaints

I was driving at approximately 25-30 MPH, accelerating from a stop light and I felt a clunk, heard a grinding noise and my back wheels locked up. It was snowy/icy conditions so the back end of my pick-up slid out to the right a little bit before the wheels unlocked and I was able to regain control. I could have slid off the road or into another vehicle had the wheels remained locked. The computer system then alerted me to a transmission issue and to reduce speed immediately and call for service. The pickup was then unable to shift out of 1st gear. The vehicle has been towed to a dealer and I have been informed the valve body in the transmission has to be replaced which is 8-12 weeks backorder.

I was driving my truck on I-65 around 75mph and the engine just shut down. I had to maneuver the vehicle out of traffic onto the side of the interstate. It would not restart. I had it towed to my dealership and they told I experienced total engine failure. It was caused by internal bearing failure

GM 6.2L Engine shifted itself into neutral and shut down while my wife was alone driving 65mph on [XXX] in Tucson Arizona. No error messages or check engine signal, Vehicle Information Center advised pull over and push Start Button. Vehicle would not initially restart but did start within 5 minutes and my wife was able to limp along the 1/4 mile to the next off ramp to get off the highway. Local GMC Dealer confirmed the seized motor and immediately ordered a new GM motor. Vehicle is 18 mo's old with 26,500 miles and is sitting at the dealer. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rubbing noise when turning the steering wheel. Truck has 8800 miles on it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Wasn’t able to fix on day diagnosed need to order parts. Only vehicle I have. When asked if I can continue to drive I was told if a problem arises to stop?!? Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. They confirm there is a steering gear issue. Parts in order. Was told it’s a big deal and will need it for several days to fix. 8800 miles on truck! Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?no Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps. Noticed it when turning into my garage at lower speeds.

While driving on highway, during rush hour at [XXX], in the center lane of the highway the engine turned itself off and stopped running. Was traveling with traffic, approximately 70-75 mph, engine turned off the truck started deaccelerating rapidly. Was able to change to the right lane and pull over on to the side of the highway. Truck rolled roughly 100 yards and then stopped. The dashboard lights were on and gave the appearance the truck was running, but it was not. Could not restart the vehicle. Tow track came and had to drag the truck up to the truck bed and then shack it off - when taken to the dealership. Truck could NOT be put in neutral. Truck is current at the dealership. The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light illuminated after the failure had occurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related to the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

Was driving down the interstate at 70mph with cruise control on. The vehicle lunged forward and soon after a reduce power message appeared in the messages. I was able to avoid any incident with other vehicles and exited the highway with the motor was making loud noises. I parked the vehicle and called for roadside assistance. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, and I found out that the 6.2 liter V8 motor has metal in the oil and the entire engine needed to be replaced. The thrust bearing failed and required a full engine replacement. The vehicle has approximately 21,000 on it and is still under warranty, but it is a 3-6 month wait to get a replacement engine. I have searched the internet and found that there are many vehicles that are having similar issues with the 6.2 L V8 GM motor. It has been slightly over a month since the incident and have not received any updates.

I had my 6.2 engine replaced at 26,000 miles and the transmission rebuilt. The engine was contaminated with metal shavings and the transmission rebuilt for internal defects. The new engine is running fine but the reliability is a concern after reading about other customers having the same problems. My name is [XXX] . The truck check engine lights came on, and I took it to a dealer. I was told the ECM was faulty, they replaced it, but it didn't fix the issue. I was then told the ONSTAR telematics unit was faulty. The truck has been down for 45 days, with no ETA on parts(several forms say 4-6 months). There is no guarantee that this will fix the CEL. The truck is inoperable at this time.

While entering the highway from a downward slop exit ramp and towing a trailer, my truck shuddered hard and briefly locked up the rear axle. It immediately went into limp mode with a message that driving speed will be reduced. It also wouldn't shift past 5th gear. When the event took place, the OBD2 generated over 20 trouble codes. My local dealer advised I could drive it to them for repair. Upon dropping it off, they now advise it's NOT safe for driving and they have no eta on the parts to repair the issue. It's now been at the dealer for a week with no update. This is a well known issue that GM refuses to repair or provide a reasonable timeframe for repair.
