GMC Complaints

This vehicle has an electrical deficiency when trying to park, The console will NOT recognize that the vehicle is in park, causing bell warnings, beeping, and an INABILITY to lock the vehicle, thus draining the battery. We cannot walk away from it, nor ever leave anything of value in it. This is a recurring problem, causing stress, and having to start, shut off, re-start, wiggling the shifter knob, MANY times and HOPE that the electrical system will recognize that the vehicle IS in Park. sometimes this can take 20 minutes, IF it works at all. If not, We have to leave someone IN the vehicle when this happens, in order to do anything! This is a KNOWN problem with this shifter, and there SHOULD be a recall on it!

We filled a report on 04/04/2026 with NHTSA at 12:16 pm but can't find a copy of the whole report. My husband John Chandler was driving our 2025 GMC Avadia Elevation. He was backing out of a parking place when he noticed it wouldn't stop while putting his foot on the break. He was able to put it into drive and it lundged forward and wouldn't stop. He kept pushing with both feet on the break and wouldn't stop. I tried pushing the start button to stop but because his feet were on the break it would restart so then pushed the park button and it stopped as we hit the building. The air bags did not depoy so not going that fast. I pushed the button for 911 and they came on to assist and call police. They asked if everyone was al right and other questions. Lucky no one was hurt and thank God for that. Tow truck was called and taken to local tow yard. The 2025 Acadia was transported to the repair shop but has not been inspected by the insurance company or GMC yet. After repairs are complete it will be taken to the local GMC dealer Ron Smith in Merced, CA for inspection. We did not notice andy warning messages prior to the accident.

My 2020 GMC Sierra 6.2L (only 46,000 miles which is under warranty mileage criteria), suffered catastrophic engine failure while at 40 miles per hour out of no where and rolled without power for about ~60ft. Power came back on, and I was able to get closer to the dealership but again, lost all power and rolled for about 60ft again right in front of the dealership. The truck died while attempting to make a left turn (in oncoming traffic), it got going again in time to finish the turn. When I pulled into the dealership it pulled code P0016 which is the same code for the 2021-2024 recall currently for the 6.2L GM engine. I had all oil changes completed on time and can show evidence of them. Other repairs, recalls etc were completed at the GMC dealership. The 2020 Sierra 6.2L should absolutely be included on the GM recall. Same issues as 2021-2024. Funny how 2020's just reached over on time limit for warranty. The repair estimate for my truck is over $13K!!!

Engine seized while driving on my local interstate hwy. No warning lights came up. Towed to the dealer and they confirmed the engine was locked up. Engine needed to be replaced.

Under full acceleration on flat, dry pavement, the vehicle suddenly pulls hard to the right or left without any steering input. The steering wheel does not move, but the vehicle abruptly changes direction, requiring immediate counter-steering to avoid losing control. This happens every time under full acceleration and has been confirmed by two GMC dealers. GM Corporate states this is “normal,” but the behavior is unsafe and could cause a crash. Two GMC dealers reproduced the issue and confirmed the sudden directional pull under full acceleration, but both stated it is ‘normal.’ GM Corporate also acknowledged the behavior but claims it is within manufacturing tolerance. The vehicle still pulls violently to one side under full acceleration, creating a serious safety risk.

The current 6.2L engine recall was completed by Janssen Chevrolet in Holdrege, NE and it was noted the vehicle was fine. On April 11th, while driving down Interstate 80 in Nebraska, the engine suddenly died and would not restart. No warning lights or indicators illuminated prior to the failure and there were no symptoms. By sheer luck, it occurred before the head to head construction area with no shoulder and there was a rest area within coasting distance that and we were able to reach. I had little children in the car and we were stranded on the highway until friends were able to pick up the family and transport them to Lincoln and I was able to travel with the tow truck to deposit the vehicle at Husker Auto Group in Lincoln, NE. I was forced to rent a vehicle from a 3rd party as the dealer was closed and it was Saturday evening. On Monday, the dealer confirmed metal in the oil and filter and that the engine was completely dead and unable to be repaired, requiring replacement under the current recall. A much smaller loaner vehicle, insufficient to transport my family has been provided. It has been 13 days and there is no update on how long the vehicle will be out of service awaiting an engine.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70-72 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power, and the engine seized. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 45,504.

The screen continues to go out. Screen contains many safety functions. When it malfunctions it is distracting.

My cars breaks failed by a vacuum pump failer and I almost died on the a hill going home

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost automotive power. The hazard lights, collision, road traction, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam lobe and cylinder #6 lifter had failed, and the lifter and camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
