I started my truck on [XXX] and after driving less than 3 miles the check engine light came on and then light for traction control needs service came on. I stopped and notice engine was idling weird. So I called dealer and they recommended I bring in. I proceeded to drive but could not drive over 40 mph as the engine would not idle past that and started hearing clicking noises. I slowly get the vehicle into service at McKinney GMC Buick in McKinney, TX. Two days later I get a call stating that engine needs to be replaced due to bearing failure and excessive metal in oil and oil filter. Which damaged the engine and is not repairable. The service center informed that this is common with my 6.2 L V8 and there are four other trucks same issues. The engine is on back order and don't know when I will be able to get my vehicle back. This appears to be a known issue for GMC and they are not telling people who could be in danger on road at any moment without warning. The transmission failed which stemmed from the faulty (recently recalled valve body). General Motors has been contacted and there is no transmission in sight and is not able to provide an ETA. They are also not willing to cover the catastrophic failure because I am outside of my warranty terms. The dealership has inspected and concluded a whole new transmission is recommended. The vehicle has been in their possible for nearly one (1) month.

2000 GMC YUKON XL- Rehoboth Beach, DE
Tire Size: 265 70 16. While driving on a straight and level highway, the right rear tire sidewall completely shredded. Tire lost all air pressure and separated from the rim. I bought four General Grabber tires in July 2021. This is the second tire that the sidewall shredded. The first one shredded on the left rear side in July of 2024. There are a lot of General Grabber tires being recalled for over-cured sidewalls but it's strange that there are no recalls on this particular tire.

The engine failed. There was no warning. The truck literally just cut off in the middle of the road. I never saw any lights or there was no symptoms to lead up to this incident.

Radio software glitch (bulletin 23-NA-183) cuts blower fan speed to 50% or below resulting in ineffective defrost during winter months. GM knows of the issue and has a radio software update but will not complete this as warranty and/or recall and will demand you pay for the correction. Due to the uncontrolled and loss of power to fan that cannot be corrected by the owner (ex. turning radio off/on will not fix it) this has become a serious safety concern as the windshield can fog, frost, or freeze while driving the vehicle.

2021 GMC SIERRA 1500- Bridgewater, MA
While driving on the highway the engine 6.2 GM seized suddenly at high speed. The truck shut off completely and left rolling without any control. I had work my way accross lanes to the breakdown lane. While doing so I was almost hit by an 18 wheel trailer truck, who luckily was able to change lanes to avoid hitting me. The reason I was almost hit was because of my low speed since I had now power or acceleration.

2019 GMC SIERRA 1500- Hendersonville, TN
On a normal trip to work the dash light lit up then gave me these warnings. Service ESC, Service Trailer brake, Brake system Failure-62 mph top speed, steering assist reduced. Dashboard lights that were on, ABS Check Engine, Brake, Traction Control. When I tried to slow down the power assist was gone on the brakes, I had a little braking when I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor as hard as i could, when I went to turn the wheel was hard to turn. I have had no issues like this before. After I managed to stop and turn off then on the vehicle everything came back expect for a warning to service the trailer brakes and the check engine light was still on. It all cleared after a few more restarts. I got the truck to the dealer 4 days later and they said it was the battery going bad even though I was not having any problem starting the vehicle, I had them replace the battery. I am unsure if the problem is resolved, time will tell. What I am sure of is if my daughter had been driving the truck, she would not have had the strength to get the brakes to work or turn the wheel, she would have had a accident for sure.

2022 GMC SIERRA 1500- COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI
At approximately 18,000 miles the engine on my brand new GMC seized up while I was taking 4 of my employees Downtown Detroit. The engine stopped as I was merging into 3 lanes of traffic from the left lane. I had to cross 3 lanes during rush hour almost resulting in a major accident. Then I had to wait 2 months to replace the engine. 25,000 miles later, the second engine seized up while I was transporting my father between nursing home facilities. The third engine, I have recently been told only has a 12,000 mile warranty. I have requested that GM give me a 60,000 mile warranty on this 3rd engine and they refuse as it is past 30 days since the 3rd engine was installed. I should be getting a new truck, but I am just asking for a warranty. This is a known problem, which obviously has not been fixed. In both instances, there were no indications of a problem until the engine stopped running. The first time, I had 4 of my employees, which I was responsible for, in my car merging in the left lane with no engine power during rush hour, putting everyone at great risk, including other cars and people. The 2nd time, I had my [XXX] father in transit between nursing home facilities. This obviously was a very stressful event for both of us. Both of the dealerships that replaced the engines confirmed that they have been seeing this same issue in many other GM trucks. I personally know of 3 people that this has happened to. In both cases, I had to wait weeks to replace the engine because of the backlog to order the engine for other people.
