  • 2022 GMC YUKON XL
    - Pinecrest, FL

I bought my 2022 Yukon XL on [XXX]. On Friday [XXX], only a few weeks after having my car in the shop (at the dealer) for running rough, it started to make an odd high-pitched noise and running very rough at higher speeds. I immediately called the dealer and asked how quickly I could bring the car in to be checked. They said they had no availability for over 10 days, and offered me an appointment for then. By the next morning, it seemed to be running better and I didn't have to drive much that day so I hoped it would make it until the appointment. That Sunday [XXX], my husband and I drove the car to a sporting event with our children and it seemed to be ok. On our way home, however, just after crossing a long causeway over the bay, the car's motor just stopped working in the middle of driving on [XXX] in Miami. We were in the left lane and had to try to change multiple lanes while coasting only, and were only able to get off the traffic lanes because there happened to be a side street that came up quickly enough to turn onto before the car came to a stop. It was completely unexpected and without warning, and had we been on the interstate or even the causeway we had just come off of, it could've easily caused an accident with my whole family in the car. Once stopped, it wouldn't crank or even try to turn over, no matter what we tried. It took 2 tow trucks because we couldn't even change/move gears enough to put it in neutral, so couldn't use the flat bed that arrived first. We were stuck for hours in a less than desirable area of town. The dealer took a week to look the car over, then said the engine had seized up and would need to be replaced. The engine was on back order and it took over 6 weeks for the replacement. After replacement, 2 separate issues arose over the following 2 weeks, each the result of a component not being properly tightened during the engine replacement by dealer service technicians. 1. The authorized dealer repair center stated my engine has failed and needs to be replaced. It is currently at the dealer so it's unknown if it is available for inspection. I'm sure if the inspector would go to the dealer I can make that process happen. 2. The point of complete engine failure has not occurred as of yet to me so It is unknown how this would effect my safety. One would have to assume that engine failure could always be a safety problem if driving when it occurred. 3. The problem I reported has been confirmed by the authorized dealer. 4. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized dealer repair center but I am not aware of any other people that performed same inspection. 5. There was a knocking noise come from the engine when I accelerated and loss of power when accelerating. The noise was first detected 12/24/24 and I made an appointment with the authorized dealer repair center online. My vehicle was dropped off the first available day on 12/26/24. I have time & date video of the engine issue if wanted.

I was driving home from work on the highway, when the top part of the front grill broke off and flew up hitting the windshield. It caused me to abruptly swerve into the other lane of the highway. Luckily there was nobody in the other lane. The part could of also hit another car that was behind me. Going on line, I see this is quite common issue for 2022 GMC trucks and it occurs on the same conditions, driving down the highway. I suggest a recall to get this fixed.

Had to go to the Jeff Gordon dealership, which is Chevrolet. And I had to replace the transmission.

On [XXX], I was driving my truck on [XXX] through Phoenix, AZ. It was 5 days after I had purchased the vehicle and only had 250 miles on the odometer. I was in the left lane was traveling at approximately 75mph. Within the span of about 20 seconds, several lights on the dash annunciated and several messages including a message about a brake failure and steering assist failure and then the engine suddenly turned off. The steering seemed heavy and the brakes seemed less responsive. I was able to coast to a stop on the side of the road thanks to the help of a couple truckers who blocked traffic across multiple lanes. The truck was towed to the dealer and they told me the entire engine needed to be replaced. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While passing on a two-lane road at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled and acted as if the engine wasn't running. Pulled over to the side of the road and was able to restart the engine after shifting to park. Engine was harder to start than usual and cranked slowly. After restarting, the engine ran fine for the remainder of the trip, but would occasionally have difficulty cranking. After this incident, the engine developed a knock that would vary with engine RPM, and sounded like a defective connecting rod bearing. Pulled the dipstick and noticed metal shavings in the oil. Took the vehicle to local dealership who confirmed the engine was defective and would require replacement. Vehicle has been at the dealership since December 5th waiting for a backordered engine.

I’ve had the engine blown and replaced twice. The first time it failed in the middle of an intersection. We could not put it in neutral to move it. We had to call a tow truck. No check engine lights just a noise. The engine had failed bc the bearings couldn’t get oil. The second time it blew I was driving down the interstate and same thing only a noise so I pulled over and the car died. Also had to call a tow truck. It was the same as the first time the engine had blew because of the bearings not getting any oil. So now I’m on my third engine in a 2023, hoping that it doesn’t do it again.

Since I purchased the vehicle it’s had the issue of it braking on its own. I brought this up to GMC many times. At the beginning they had me try to duplicate it with them, which I thought would be unsafe. They only acknowledged the problem and attempted repairs after I contacted GMC directly. The issue with the crash alerts while driving always stayed, even though there was nothing in front of me. Just recently it started braking on its own again in traffic. This has caused bodily and property damage, luckily nothing grave. I do not feel safe in the vehicle and gave gmc many attempts at fixing such a serious issue. I want them to tow replace the vehicle and provide a loaner. Please contact me if you need more details. I have a 2022 Yukon Denali. On [XXX] the engine failed with approximately 33,000 miles on it. When the engine failed, we were traveling on a highway in New York State at a high rate of speed. Everything shut down but the steering and brakes. This put us in a dangerous situation in which we had to exit the freeway and call for a tow truck. It was still under warranty. They replaced the engine and completed the project on November 5, 2024. They delivered the car from the dealership that repaired it in New Jersey to my home in California on December 9, 2024. The new engine they installed failed on December 10, 2024. I brought it to Winter Chevrolet in Pittsburgh California. As of January 18, 2025 they have still not been able to locate a new engine to install. As of today, it has been 117 days since I’ve been without the use of my car. In my dealings with General motors, it appears that their goal is just to stall until they find an engine to install in my car also we have had no clear explanation or diagnosis of what actually is wrong with the car. The tailgate will drop completely down by itself while driving at highway speeds. It has happened numerous times while driving on the interstate highway when I had large items in the back of the truck. Items such as propane cylinder, large cooler with ice and drinks, luggage, furniture, etc. The first time was a few days after buying the truck in Sep 2022. I reported it to the dealer, the ordered a replacement electrical component and replaced it. That did not correct the problem. I took it to another dealer in early 2024 and they worked on it but said it was going to be a recall by GMC but they did not know when. It's been almost a year and the tailgate still falls down by itself completely at random. It just happened again today while driving in heavy traffic on city streets. Fortunately, I didn't have anything in the back of the truck. It happened once during the night while the truck was in my garage and hit the garage door. I no longer put anything in the back of the truck, but I am concerned that it happens to others or will happen and someone on the highway will be seriously injured when a large heavy item falls out on the interstate highway. It can cause a major accident and GMC is obviously not as concerned as they should be. It's not the dealer's fault and is solely GMC's responsibility to correct this condition before someone is injured or killed.
