Car steering will has locked up while driving as I was making a turn the steering wheel has locked to where it is hard to steer. This happened 6 months ago the same thing happened and then it went away I took the car to Hyundia and left it there for 2 weeks, but it didn't lock up there is no diagnostic code for it. I was on the highway driving straight and it locked up as well. The car has been doing this now on and off for about 3 weeks now. This needs to be recalled but Hyundia is not trying to do nothing until someone is hurt.

I own a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. About a year ago I was driving it and suddenly the steering wheel froze and I lost control of my car. Two warning lights went on. I pulled off the road to a safe place, struggling to turn the steering wheel in the direction I needed to go. I turned the car off. When I turned the car back on, everything seemed normal. The next day I took it to the Hyundai Dealer in Renton, WA. They ran it through a $180 diagnostic but couldn’t come up with a problem. Fast forward to May 1, 2022. As I was leaving a parking lot the steering froze up and it was hard to control just like the first incident. Two lights came on, the stabilizing and a triangle with an ! indicator lights. Again, I turned the engine off and back on and it worked normally. 30 miles later while maneuvering a turn, the car froze up again in heavy traffic. Turning the car off and back on fixed it. Today I took the car back to the same Renton Car Pro Hyundai. They determined this time that the steering column needed to be replaced for a cost of $2005 and it wasn’t under warranty. (the mechanic said that it expired 12000 miles earlier---about a year ago). I have since researched the internet on this problem, and it is widely known that this is a problem has affected many Sonata drivers. https://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/sonata/steering-problems2.php This problem causes extreme safety issues. It causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle. It appears to happen at unknown or predictable times and gives the feeling of being in a very unsafe auto. This car has 73k miles and has not been in any accidents. I am the original owner and have had regular servicing on the vehicle. I believe it is important for the auto makers to be held accountable for having so many vehicles with this problem. It is an expense that should not fall onto the owner of the car. I hope you will research the documented reports of many, many incidents where the steering has froze up during operation.

I just bought this car about 10 days ago everything was great until about 2 days ago, I started feeing my steering wheel lock for a little bit or get extremely loose. It did that a couple times through out the day and everything was fine. Next day about the same thing. I thought it was weird. Now today I was driving and felt the same sensation of stiffness on the steering wheel but still able to drive then boom steering wheel locks completely and multiple lights come on. This was extremely scary and I'm already traumatized by other incidents in my life. I like the car but this error in the system is so risky. After turning the car off and on , steering wheel began to work normal. hopefully this does not happen when I am on highway !

APRIL 28, 2022 THE ENGINE. IT IS REPLACED AND STILL AT ANTWERPEN HYUNDAI IN BALTIMORE MD. AT GREAT RISK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD LOSE ALL FORWARD POWER AND REDUCE SPEED FROM60 MILE PER HOUR ON A BELTWAY WHERE THE TRAFFIC MOVES VERY FAST AND I WOULD QUICKLY GO DOWN TO 20 MILES PER HOUR. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY 2 CERTIFIED MECHANICS BEFORE TAKEN TO ANTWERPEN WHERE THE 3RD DIAGNOSIS WAS PROVEN A NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I AM NOT SURE IF IT WAS INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT THE SERVICE DEPT. AT ANTWERPEN WERE IN TOUCH WITH THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THEY APPROVED REPLACING THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO-(NONE) CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BUT IT DID SAY CHANGE THE OIL. I DID CHANGE THE OIL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY 1200 MILES SINCE THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED. THE POWER FAILURE OCCURED TWO TIMES PRIOR TO THE FINAL TIME AND I TOOK IT TO JENKINS HYUNDAI IN LEESBURG FLORIDA (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) AND THEY CONTINUED TO REPORT NO PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM 1ST APPEARED WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS OF THE PURCHASE ON MAY 22, 2021. UPON RECEIVING THE CAR BACK AFTER ENGINE REPLACEMENT THE CAR WAS BLOWING BLACK SMOKE (LOTS OF IT) I TOOK IT BACK TO ANTWERPEN AND THEY FOUND THE TURBO WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED (BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER HAD THEM -POWER CLEAN?-THE TURBO. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED TO PAY TO REPACE THE TURBO. HOWEVER UPON CLOSER INSPECTION THE CATELETIC CONVERTOR WAS RUINED BECAUSE OF ALL THE OIL THROWN . THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE CONVERTER BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LABOR (?) IT TOOK 2 WEEKS (WHILE I HAD TO PAY FOR MY TRANSPORTATION) TO COMPLETE.I WAS TO PICK UP THE CAR ON THE 27TH OF APRIL,2022 AND I DID. IT IS STILL BLOWING LOTS OF BLACK SMOKE. ANTWERPEN SAID DRIVE IT FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THE SMOKING WILL STOP. I DROVE 13 MILES AND THE CAR START TREMBLING- ALL OVER SHAKING. NO FLAT TIRE. THE ENGINE IS RUMBLING AND SHAKING THE CAR. ANTWERPEN SAID DON'T BRING IT IN. LET ME DO SOME LOOKING AROUND AND I ([XXX]) WILL CALL YOU BY 2 P.M. TODAY (5/28/22 I AM AFRAID OF I INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF IN
