IC BUS Complaints

Exhaust system failure,terible exhaust leaks AT EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. Pipes wrapped in insulation and metal causing high temps which are distoring pipe shapes and colapsing systems. Also a fire hazard if any fluids leak on them. These units are 2021's thru 2023's We have been in touch with International Dealer with no avail or help. They give all kinds of why's but no answers. They tell us to replace with same system at 11,000 dollars. These pipes are on 8.8 litre engine. Available for inspection. Yes dealer did see the problem.

Exhaust leaks caused by calapsed exhaust manifold pipes on 34 IC units with PSI engines. they are wrapped with aluminium covering with insulation. This in turn makes high heat tempuraters that split and burn up and disfigure pipes. Which can cause a fire if any oil leakage or fuel occurs. It also has been snapping exhaust manifold bolts away from manifdolds.

1. Component: Bus 15 - Right front outrigger. Yes it is available for inspection 2. Safety: Outrigger cracked creating insufficient support of the school bus body 3. We were told it was not covered under warranty and no recalls have been generated and therefore paid for the first repair through Wolfington Body Co. Inc. Their repair did not hold and it came apart and on 8/7/2024 it was repaired a second time, no charge. It came apart again and on 1/30/2025 it was repaired a third time, no charge. 4. The dealer has inspected the bus, we are not aware of the manufacturer or anyone else having inspected the bus. The dealer did say they were going to present this to the manufacturer but we have never heard anything more about it. 5. We first noticed the crack when we inspected it on 4/4/2024 because we heard and felt an unusual noise/motion when driving on the roads in our town. PLEASE NOTE: Since then we have had a total of 4 out of our 5 International Gas Buses with the identical problem. Those Buses are: Bus 3 The crack was noticed on 10/24/2024 mileage 37,052 cost to repair $3,010.18. This repair came apart again on 10/24/2025 and was repaired on 2/13/26 no charge. Bus 1 The crack was noticed on 11/19/2024 mileage 46,718 the Dealer repaired at no cost due to negotiating a compromise. Bus 12 The crack was noticed on 5/23/2025 mileage 40,310 cost to repair $3,005.58. I have been told by the Dealer's Service Team through an email dated 8/4/2025 that they would be submitting these to the Manufacturers "goodwill process in hopes of having the previous and current repairs reimbursed" To date, we have heard nothing. We strongly feel this is a manufacturer design defect and it must be happening to other IC School Buses as well.

Engine exhaust head pipes before the catalytic converter melts down from excessive engine heat, creating a large exhaust hole. This is a school bus

The engine exhaust downpipe melted and cracked- creating a large exhaust pipe hole near the engine exhaust manifold. Releasing exhaust gases and potential flames. This is a school bus and it happens frequently with this model.

THis is a school bus- Exhaust downpipes leading into the catalytic converters melted down and created large holes in the exhaust pipe itself. Extreme heat developed by engine.

We purchased (6) 2025 IC School buses and we are having entrance door issues. They are air powered doors and Rush Trucks in Akron cannot get the air regulated to close properly. They turn up the air so that the door closes, the doors then slam very hard that may cause injury if student is close to the door. If the air is turned down, the doors do nut shut properly causing issues with the student crossing lights which then sounds an alarm and the lights do not function properly causing the lights to not activate when crossing students. I have given Rush about a year to rectify the issue but to no avail. Again- This is a student crossing safety concern.

The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2022 IC BUS CESB. The contact works as the district mechanic for the Chase County Schools District. The contact stated that while driving the bus on a rural road, the alarm buzzer sensor on the emergency exit windows activated independently. Due to the rough conditions, the buzzer alarm activated. The windows were not loosened; however, the alarm sounded to indicate a failure. The contact had experienced the failure with the 5 school buses he oversaw. The contact stated that the alarm sound prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The contact was able to recreate the failure by jumping up and down outside of the bus. The contact inspected the buzzer alarm; however, the cause of the failure was not found. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

The roof leaks in several areas. The water gets on the floor and seats increasing the chance that children will slip and fall on the wet floors and seats. This has been to the dealer more than once but the roofs still leak. We have more than one bus of the same age that leak
