Three times in the past 4 years, the air bag warning light was triggered when the battery was either disconnected/reconnected or jump started. Each time to re-activate the airbag safety system, I had to send out the air bag control module to have it reset. It is not expensive to do that , but it does mean one has to disassemble the center console, remove airbag control module and send it out to be reset. Additionally, during the time that the airbag light is on, my understanding is that the SRS is deactivated, which is obviously a safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2008 Infiniti G37. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light flashed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) varistor in the front passenger seat had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact related the failure to the Manufacturer Recall Number: P8243. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

According to Campaign P8243, Ref ITB08-045e, NTHTSA # 08-521, my 2008 Infiniti G37 has a warning blinking light for the passenger airbag. I contacted the National Consumer Affairs Dept of Infiniti and they said that my vin # did not indicate it has a recall. I was quoted $5000 to replace the seat by other mechanical shops, but my vehicle is not worth that anymore. Please advise. Thank you.

The airbag control module can be damaged through normal use. Simply disconnecting the battery can damage the module, which then causes the airbag malfunction light on the instrument cluster to turn on. It is unclear weather or not the airbag will function when this occurs. Presumably, it will not. The dealer solution for this is to replace the module, at a cost of over $1000. Fortunately, it is possible to remove the module and send it to a 3rd party who can reflash a chip. However, doing this every time a random electrical glitch (common ) causes the warning system to trip is dangerous.

Air bag light indicator on dashboard continually flashes off and on…no reason for it to be doing so; i.e., the vehicle has had no impact to cause it to flash.

SRS Air Bag light continues to flash after the vehicle is running. This causes the passenger airbag to stay off even if a passenger is buckled in the seat.

REGARDING TRACKING NUMBER 11400119.- INFINITY CALLED ME TODAY(FROM PHONE NUMBER 6157257000. SHE SAID THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN MY CASE BECAUSE THE CAR HAS NO RECALL ON IT. I'M CONFUSED BECAUSE I THOUGHT YOU AND INFINITY WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE AND IF OTHERS WITH THIS MODEL OF.CAR WERE IN DANGER OF BEING SET ON FIRE.

AFTER 60K MILES, THE CAR HAS DIFFICULTY SHIFTING IN REVERSE. ONCE IN REVERSE, THE CAR DOESN'T ROLL BACK AND IT REMAINS IDLE AS IF LEFT IN PARK. A FOREIGN TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP OWNER SAID THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT USER ERROR, AND THAT NISSAN/INFINITI HAVE NOT BEEN HAVING ONGOING TRANS ISSUES WITH MANY OF THEIR MODELS, BUT REFUSE TO CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR MOST. NISSAN/INFINITI USA WILL EASILY GOAD CUSTOMERS INTO PAYING $8K TO INSTALL A NEW TRANS, HOWEVER.
