2014 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints

My car is a 2014 My PUT failed in 2020 for the first time, and now In 2024 for the 2nd time. This is supposed to be a heavy duty vehicle and I dont ever take it off road. It shouldn't fail like this.

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needs to be replaced. A warning light came on, "Svc 4wd". I have 130,000 miles on the vehicle. My mechanic said it will take months to get the part because so many other Cherokees are having the same issue. It would seem to me that if this issue is so widespread, a recall should be made on it. Instead, I am being asked to pay $3,500 to have it repaired once the part comes in. Now I have a car that I am afraid to drive before it is fixed as I don't know if driving it will create further, more extensive, issues.

1* The electric Emergency Brake. 2* The E brake engages while I am driving and causes the car to abruptly stop almost causing the car behind me to rear end my car. 3* No, it just started, it happened 2 times yesterday 5/1/24. 4* No 5* Not that I am aware of.

Flooding water is getting into car, trunk where the spare tire is kept. That whole portion is wet with water and it is affecting the electrical because it is getting wet.

2nd time, I did not put auto brake on but it engaged itself and than was stuck and would not disengage. Luckily I was not in traffic, because that could have been a serious safety issue. The e brake engages on its own and than won’t dislodge. Multiple times this has happened now. Took it in once and paid almost $1500 to get it repaired, 3 days later same thing happened again!

The Power Transfer Unit PTU is failing on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee and Jeep knows this is an issue. They have already recalled over 67,000 vehicles for this issue but somehow my vehicle isn’t affected when there’s no way I could have damaged the part myself. The problem has been diagnosed by a Jeep dealership as failing but I don’t want to drive it and have fail in the middle of a trip where I would ultimately lose all power to the vehicle and be stranded in the middle of the road. No warning lamps came on but vehicle has been making a loud scraping metal on metal sound below 35 and when decelerating.

My vehicle had no service light or warnings prior to shutting down in a parking lot. Now it won’t start and says 4WD is unavailable, service transmission. I had to pay for it to be towed to my home. I’m a disabled veteran living on a fixed income and cannot afford to take it to a dealer. Seems to me that the recall W47 20V343000 directly addresses the reason my vehicle is inoperable and so SHOULD include my VIN!

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the message "Service 4-Wheel Drive" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently and was preventing the vehicle from switching from one driving mode to another as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 153,000.

PTU issue keep appearing, believe our call should also be included into below recall. Can someone advise please? Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary. Service 4WD light is constantly on while driving. The Jeep is at over 112,000 miles. My mechanic did a diagnostic check and the code that was provided was C14A7-97 PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked. I checked with the Jeep dealership for a possible recall and gave my VIN number. There are no current recalls. For 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokees where the PTU has not been previously replaced, the auto maker’s recall number is W47 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s recall campaign number is 20V343. At the current moment I’m scared to drive this car. I drive my elderly mother and kids in this car. If these problems are due to a recall I need my car fixed by Jeep. They are the only ones that know how to handle this situation.
