2014 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints

When tank is filled up, my car stall or jumps and losses power when in drive and come to a stop, it tells me to put in park. But has done it while driving and just died, but it happens every time I fill up my tank, but it’s bad when I get to a red light and it jumps or when I come to crossing and just jumps in traffic or stops

SVC Warning light on- Notice of 4wd not accessible/power issues/surges/constant burning smell of fluid. Started about 3/1/2024. Took for service at Firestone then referred to Transmission shop. Transfer box for 4wheel drive defective, fluid leaking. Advised I could loose power without notice if not repaired. Local dealers are backlogged for the part, by several hundred requests, as this is a issue for this vehicle. Repair is costing me over $3,000.00. My mileage is 68000.

The contact stated that while entering the vehicle after a rainy day, the contact became aware that the vehicle was filled with water in the front and rear passenger's side seats. The contact mentioned that the water entered through the sunroof while it was raining. The contact was removing the water from the vehicle with a bucket and stated that mildew and mold were growing inside the vehicle due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

I start my car up and try to drive off and it would say shift gear into something then won’t let me leave the car is jerking hard or hesitation I get up to a certain speed it would just shut off or if I stop at a stop light it will shut off the engine but still have the acc on

The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the parts to repair were not available. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,800.

The contact indicated that the failure had also occurred while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure or diagnosed the failure and no corrective service was performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.

My vehicle dashboard gave me a "service park brake" message. The emergency brake would automatically engage if attempting to shift the car into park. The emergency brake could not be disengaged. The vehicle was towed to a Jeep dealership. The dealership has determined that the "park brake module connector" and surrounding wires have corroded due to water intrusion. They told me the car is considered unsafe as if it were to be driven the e-brake could engage at any moment. They also determined there is water leaking into that area of the car i.e. the rear left cargo area where the brake module sits. My online research has determined this is a common issue, and Jeep has not had a recall or notices about it. The water leaking could come from the sun/moon roof or the wheel well. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V338000 (Electrical System, Structure) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. Additionally, the vehicle failed to start, and the alternator was replaced. The failure mileage was 2. Parts distribution disconnect.

The 2014 - 2016 jeep Cherokee introduced a new design to increase off-road capability, by creating a PTU "Power Transfer Unit" for their 4WD models, many of the v6 models had problems with this unit and two recalls have been created by the NHTSA to deal with this problem, My car is the 4 cylinder model which also has a PTU and has suffered the exact same issues the V6 owners had but we have not been given access to the recall. This is a widely known issue that thousands of 2014 4 cylinder jeep Cherokee owners have been suffering with. It is a risk and danger on the road way, causing irregular and unexpecting driving issues, complete loss of power to the rear wheels "which could be life threatening in some situations", in my situation I had reduced and intermittent power when trying to take a left hand turn across traffic nearly causing me to get impacted on the driver side. I had my [XXX] father in the car as I was taking him to his chemo appointment. Upon taking the car to the dealership they told me that the PTU would likely need to be replaced at a cost of over 4000 dollars. I feel as thought there is sufficient correlation to the other issues this manufacture has with the part(s) in question, to warrant further investigation and recourse given the severity of the failure. The contact owned a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated when she was reversing (R) out of the parking space, when she straightened the vehicle and shifted to drive (D) the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle crossed over several parking lot barriers and crashed into the front end of a parked vehicle. The contact stated that the acceleration happened so fast she was not able to depress the brake pedal and she did not notice how fast she was moving. It was unknown if any lights illuminated. The vehicle crashed into the front end of the parked vehicle. The contact's driver's side hood and grill were crushed, and her driver's side wheels well and fender were also crushed and damaged. The driver's side door was badly damaged and could not be opened. The contact was transported by ambulance to a hospital. She said she was treated for a bruise on her left knee, she had no other injuries. The parked vehicle was unoccupied. The police were on the scene but did not file a report. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and the contact stated that her insurance company later called to advise her that the vehicle was a total loss. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
