2019 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints

While driving my 2019 Jeep Cherokee, the vehicle's start/stop system malfunctioned and caused the engine to completely shut off at a traffic light. I had my hazard lights on, and while stopped safely another driver rear ended my vehicle. The Jeep has had repeated issues with stalling and engine shut-off since I purchased it. This is a serious safety concern and could have caused greater injury. I brought my vehicle to the dealership 3 times for the same issues once back in 01/25/2023, when the vehicle was still under warranty a part was ordered and replaced, but the same issues kept recurring. When I brought the vehicle back in in 2024 I was told because my warranty had expired I would have to pay out of pocket to repair the issue.

Car is experiencing an issue with 4WD and the warning light indicates the system needs to be services. There is an open recall for the exact Model, and Year but does not include my VIN. There are no parts available and I have a vehicle that can not be driven.

Power Transfer Unit (PTU), The Service 4WD light keeps coming on and off. 2019 Jeep Cherokee

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in my 2019 Jeep Cherokee failed, producing a “Service 4WD” warning and DTC C14A7-97 (“PTU motor obstructed/blocked”). An authorized dealer removed and inspected the PTU and documented internal damage (metal debris and worn components). The dealer charged over $1,400 for the teardown/diagnostic and then reassembled the failed unit because Stellantis could not supply a replacement part. The AWD system remains inoperative, creating a potential loss-of-drive/safety risk while driving. Importantly, the dealer Dicks Dodge/Jeep in Wilsonville, OR failed to disclose that this is part of an active technical service bulletin (STAR Case S1721000016 Rev A) and related to NHTSA Recall 25V-011 affecting 2017-2019 Cherokees, repeatedly missed promised callbacks, provided no timeline for parts, and offered no substantive remedy other than suggesting a trade-in. The dealer’s lack of communication and refusal/ inability to obtain parts left me with an un-repaired, potentially unsafe vehicle and billed for work that produced no fix. The component is available for inspection upon request.

Vehicle was at a red light , when turned green vehicle would not drive forward even though was pressing on the gas ..was like it just shut down but was still running.. I was stuck and put my hazards on , then it suddenly started to move forward. Took car to dealer ..they changed me 400 for a diagnostic and said nothing was wrong with vehicle..They said maybe it needs a software update. But they were not sure, and wanted to charge me for something they were not sure about..

Last week my 4wd service light came on. I took it to get diagnosed and was advised my ptu was faulty and needed to be replaced. There are recalls out for a faulty ptu but my vin was not included.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). While driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle began shuddering and stalled. The 4X4 warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to remain in 4WD. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part was not yet available for the recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.

The “SVC 4WD” warning indicator illuminated on my dashboard. A diagnostic test performed at an authorized dealership confirmed a failure in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). The PTU and the vehicle are still installed and available for inspection upon request. The warning light appears intermittently—turning on for a period of time, then shutting off before returning. This issue presents a potential safety risk. The dealership explained that PTU failure can result in loss of power while driving or the vehicle failing to remain securely in Park, either of which could lead to loss of control or unintended vehicle movement, posing a risk to myself, passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership through diagnostic testing. No repairs have been completed at this time because, although this is a known issue affecting this year, make, and model, the PTU failure is not currently covered under a recall or warranty extension. I have also observed multiple reports of PTU failure in other vehicles of the same year, make, and model, suggesting a pattern of premature failure that may indicate a potential design or manufacturing defect. To date, the vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership and has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no other warning lamps or symptoms prior to the “SVC 4WD” indicator. The warning light first appeared on 11/3/2025, and the vehicle was brought in for diagnostic evaluation on 11/5/2025.

Have had multiple issues where stop/stop fails while at a stop in the street and either doesn’t start again or starts after a while. Last time on 10/29/2025 I was at a stop just getting off I-10 and the car would not start and gave start stop error and took multiple minutes before starting again. This first began 5/2024. Dealership has replace the battery, starter relay, and the start twice. It is a huge safety concern for me being stuck in the middle of the street or at a stop

The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle made abnormal grinding and popping sounds, and the vehicle shuddered. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot, and the contact then drove to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where an axle repair was performed, and the contact was advised that the vehicle could not be completely repaired because the recall part was not yet available. Additionally, the contact stated that the parking brake, the check engine, the 4WD, and the engine Auto START/STOP warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was contacted several times and advised the contact to either repair the vehicle or obtain a loaner vehicle out-of-pocket until the part became available. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
