2019 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints

My PTU is failing. My 4 wheel drive no longer works. I have been waiting for a remedy for this recall for months.

My car is doing exactly what the newest recall is for the PTU... I lost power while driving, I couldn't put the car in park. I bought a new car the following day and it's been sitting in my driveway ever since.

This Jeep suddenly started smoking while driving. Driver immediately pulled over and noticed oil all over on ground. Towed to mechanic and the transfer case has a large crack and the rear differential is bad. Repairs exceeding $4000. Also, on a regular basis the car loses power while driving. Driver has to pull over and restart car. This has not been fixed yet. Not sure what it is. Both issues are known issues for Jeep Cherokees and also this year Jeep. Yet there is no recall for this VIN number. The costs for fixing this and the dangers are unacceptable. Scared about the power loss and not sure what my mechanic will find. This car should be included in the recalls for both issues. I am super disappointed in Jeep. I filed a report with Jeep cares and will also be contacting the attorney general and a consumer attorney. These issues need to be included in the existing recalls for this VIN number. Also, mechanic had to get a refurbished transfer case because there is a backlog of new transfer cases. Clearly this is a big issue.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle experienced reduced power temporarily, with the messages "4WD Unavailable - Service" and "Service 4WD" being displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PTU had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Rear differential was replaced on 8/2/23 under warranty due to banging and vibration . Since then I feel that problem on 8/2/23 was caused by the transfer case issues, slowing down the jeep would bang when coming to a stop, as if someone hit us from behind. Whet to the dealer today 9/3/25 and the told us we needed a new transfer case and other related issues.

“Service 4WD” message on the dashboard, vibration, grinding metal sound came from SUV.

The PTU power train unit is bad in this jeep and has been for awhile. I seen in Jan 2025 a recall for this for some jeeps and my jeep should be on there it’s been on back order to get fixed and still nothing. Also the rear end differential has been fixed 3 times for it being broken in 4 years

My vehicle was showing signs of problems and has been diagnosed as needing a new PTU and rear differential. These are both well known issues of Recall ID 01C, but my VIN was not included in the recall. I was not aware of the issue and am concerned because this is a definite safety issue.

While driving, the emergency brake system becomes enabled, which immediately causes the vehicle to stop and sometimes stall. This is so dangerous! My daughter has been in the middle of an intersection when the vehicle has done this, she's lucky she hasn't been struck and killed. We have not taken it to a dealership, however online reports confirm this problem, and that the NHTSA is investigating it. There is a warning light that comes on when this happens, it says BRAKE, and then it gives prompts on what you need to do to disable the emergency brake. This has happened about four times in just this past year (we purchased this vehicle used and have owned it for one year), with the most recent time happening over the weekend. I was reversing the vehicle to move it to another spot in our driveway. I reversed the vehicle, then put it in Drive, and it immediately stopped and flashed BRAKE and enabled the emergency parking brake, although I didn't even touch it! I had to then put my foot on the brake, push the emergency brake button, (I think twice), and then I was able to drive forward.

I was at a red light, the first in line, and when the light turned green, I pressed the gas, and heard a horrible thud(thinking someone hit me because my car rattled) and then the car would not move forward. Each time I pressed the gas, nothing moved. I put it into park and back to drive, nothing. I put it in reverse and nothing. I put it in manual, and nothing. I even switched to sand, snow, etc, and nothing. Every time I revved the motor it did not move. It remained on, and revved the engine, but would not move. I have never had any signals (sounds, emergency lights, etc) come on in the four years I've had this vehicle. It did have a recall on it and supposedly was repaired the day I purchased the vehicle. I had it repaired by the same place it was purchased (and where the recall was fixed) and the head service guy told me I needed to contact Mopar to let them know of this and they denied anything..My 2019 Jeep with (at the time of this) had only 96964 miles on it should not have had this occur! If I'd have been on the express way (instead of a very busy intersection at rush hour) this would've been catastrophic for me and others!
