2019 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while at a complete stop. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a power transfer unit failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to a unknown NHTSA Campaign Number. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Jeep begins to display 4WD service light. Took it into a transmission shop who informed that Power Distribution Unit needs to be replaced. They indicated that there is an active recall on this part and that it should be taken to a Jeep Service Center. Jeep Service Center confirmed that it is indeed a PDU issue and that there is an active recall on this part. This serial number vehicle, however, is not covered by the recall. As this is the same part and symptoms, as well as year and make of auto, this jeep's serial number should be included in the recall. Please update your records to include this jeep in the recall. As of now, the Jeep has been awaiting backordered parts for 1 month, with no projected delivery date. The projected repair costs are $3800. Thank You

The rear differential housing is peeling apart and leaking out the fluid. It is clearly a defect that is shown widely on the internet affecting many other owners of this vehicle. Clearly there is a danger of the drive train locking up and can lead to accident. Talked with jeep they do not want to help.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle hesitated, and the transmission shifted hard before the vehicle accelerated. The contact stated that there was a clunking sound while shifting gear. The battery light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) had failed and replaced the canister and the PTU. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 61,226. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Drive shaft busted at approximately 54, 900 miles. Was explained to me by my mechanic how bad this was, and that this could have been gravely injurious to me and others, and that I got lucky. Approximately one month later the air compressor went. The 4WD service light comes on, which suggests a drivetrain problem, as well, though could be an electrical issue. Both repairs were costly. This is unacceptable for a car under or around 55,000 miles and is well-maintained.

Vehicle power train unit was recalled 01/23/2025 for failing parts, however, no parts are available for a fix, Jeep/FCA are not aware when the parts will be available and/or when the recall will be completed. The failure of the PTU can cause dangerous, if not fatal results, including a lower of drive power, a vehicle crash, a loss of park function, and even death. The PTU is recalled, however, I have also already replaced it once and paid out of pocket.
