My 2019 Jeep Cherokee was not on the recall list for failing PTU units. The vehicle has 43,300 miles. I randomly received multiple warning lights and once inspected by the mechanic I was informed the PTU unit needs to be replaced.

Purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in November of 2022. December 29, 2023 it would not go into gear. Towed to local repair shop was told it was the PTU. Quote to fix was $3,250 but part was on backorder. Called Jeep customer service that same day and was told vehicle was past warranty by two months and they wouldn't be able to do anything. After three months of calling Jeep Customer Service, telling them each time I called where the vehicle was I was told that if it had been at a certified Jeep dealership they would have been able to help. A supervisor told me they dropped the ball, apologized and said they would heavily "coach" their employees for future calls like this. Still wouldn't guarantee any assistance but advised me to tow it to a Jeep dealership and they may be able to help. Finally get it towed, get a PTU put in only to receive a recall letter that the "new part" is still defective and can possible cause the vehicle to crash. This has been since January. I submitted a reimbursement for what I paid to have the first PTU put in but it was denied by Jeep saying because it was already a faulty PTU they couldn't reimburse me. I am still getting a check engine light, the auto start/stop light comes on and the vehicle stalls repeatedly. Both the independent repair shop and certified Jeep dealership confirmed that it is a faulty PTU unit that needs replaced.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while reversing out of a parking space at approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact used an excessive amount of effort to maneuver the steering wheel. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who failed to diagnose and remove the steering gear rack and pinion. The mechanic determined there was a short circuit in the electrical system for the power steering. The contact stated that the short circuit had caused the rack and pinion to burn out and fail. The mechanic then replaced the wire and the rack and pinion again. Approximately 3 days later, while driving approximately 30 MPH the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic who then brought the vehicle to the dealer who would be better equipped to repair the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the Exhaust Particulate Filter (EPF) connecter from the steering wheel to the battery had failed. The connector's wiring harness was replaced. The contact searched online and found related recalls under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 18V524000 (Electrical System) and 19V637000 (Steering). The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recalls. The failure mileage was 87,846.

My Service AWD light came on (stayed on) in January 2025. Prior to the steady light, it came on and off randomly. Originally, I did not notice any change in driving. I took it to the Jeep Dealer once the service light was steady and was informed the PTU has internal failure, and the part was on back order until March. I had to pay a diagnostic fee because I could not wait for the part to be available and needed my car, so I took it back. This was after a week of them holding the car and me constantly following up before they told me it was back ordered. I attempted to try another Jeep repair shop, they too confirm internal failure, but said the part is on back order and could not tell me when the part would be available. I am noticing that the car tends to pull to one side especially when turning, and while on local streets. After checking the NHTSA website I realize this problem (with the PTU) was recalled back in January for the same year and model as my car, but my car has not specifically been identified with this issue. I have less than 40,000 miles on my car. I want to have this issue resolved as soon as possible, but keep running into issues on finding a location that can get this part. I have lost days of using my car, and have taken off from work trying to get this issue resolved. Before this causes further issues, I want to get this resolved asap.

our 2019 jeep cherokee limited has had the service 4wd light on for a few months. having issue of it losing acceleration on hwy and on city streets. i have to drive alot for my work, it can cause me to lose income if it is not drivable. i have reported it to the manufacturer. but they state it is not on the recall list. even though they have other models of the same year and model under recall, for the same issues. what can i do? Cant afford to replace.
