2014 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while attempting to shift gear, the vehicle made an abnormal sound coming from the gear selector. The contact stated that the transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed but not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V447000 (Power Train) however, the Vin was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after filling the fuel tank, the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was restarted, and functionality returned. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repair. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the Vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Every time I fill up with gas, the car dies a few times while driving away from the gas station. Sometimes at high speeds. The "Shift to Park" notification comes on and I have to pull over, shift to park and shift back into drive. This happens a few times and then goes away until the next time I fill gas.

The contact also stated that the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated the service 4 wheel drive warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the control module needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure still occurred. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer a month later where it was diagnosed with the power transfer unit needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20V343000 (Power Train). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Had just filled gas tank (1st time since we purchased the vehicle on 6/9/21). Stopped at traffic light. Engine quit and dashboard message advised to put car in park and push start button. Car started but quit almost immediately. While in park tried to rev engine, but got minimal response. When traffic light changed, proceeded forward. "Transmission Service Needed" message appeared, and D (Drive) on gearshift and on dashboard started blinking. Check Engine light was, (and remains) on. Car quit 3rd time, same "Transmission Service Needed" message appeared. When I got home, put car in reverse to back into driveway, got aloud clunking sound. Shut off engine and kept it off for 30-40 minutes. Started the car again and took it around the block, but none of the previous issues repeated.

The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to a dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 128,388.

Much like other recalls for PTU's on similar models in the same year, mine is having problems with the power transfer unit (PTU) rumbling from the rear while decelerating and applying the electric brake automatically. I feel the manufacturer made a band aid change to the programming by applying the electric brake rather than being forced to replace the faulty PTU in a safety recall. Ultimately this puts my safety at risk and leaves me financially responsible for a faulty PTU. Vehicle starts to hesitate and shake during acceleration and then the service gear shifter light come on and all the red lights on the gear shifter turns red.

Approximately May 15th 2021 the Start/Stop button started to malfunction causing the vehicle to not go into park. I called the Jeep dealer to set an appointment and brought the vehicle in for repairs on 6/1/2021. The Service manager mentioned that there was a recall on Jeep Cherokee Models but I still had to pay to have it repaired. As I see it as a Safety concern by the NHSTA, I believe it should have been covered at no expense to me.

1)Vehicle sputters & says I cannot change gears manually while driving. To put the vehicle in park then shift to neutral. 2)Warning light message to “service shifter”. 1)This usually happens after/while stopped at a light. Has happened 3-4 times in the past 6 months. 2) This light comes on every time I drive it.
