2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

POWER TRANSFER UNIT While driving it seems to go out of gear and revs up. Have to shift out of present drive to netural and back to drive. Happens off and on. Done it on interstate would not go with giving gas until shifted to netural and back to drive. Almost got rear ended There is a recall for same problem but mine is not on recall list. WHY THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING. Also there was a recall on my type of vehicle but not mine for Suppension block which I had to just have done a week ago that cost me $4000.00 at John Hinderer Chrysler Dodge at 1290 Hebron Rd Heath Ohio 43055. Ph 740-522-1106 which can give the repair list. Why again was mine not on the list. This should have been covered.

Grandfather bought the car for me in December 2024. It was sold and wasn’t told there were any issues with the car. It was bought in Texas. I drove it to Colorado. Two and a half weeks into driving the car, it was leaking a lot of oil. Had it looked at and was told The oil housing unit was dumping oil out of it bc it was made of plastic not aluminum. I was trying to go through extended warranty not knowing the severity of the issues of the car. I was going to have it looked at by jeep instead of Midas. They were booked out for over 2 weeks. I was trying to keep oil in the engine while waiting to get it looked at by Jeep. The engines ended up seizing on me. I had put more oil in it the day it seized up on [XXX]. I had to have it towed to pep boys just find out the engine got messed up by the crack in f he coolant and housing unit. The oil lamp came on 2 days before New Year’s Eve. I was trying to find a place to schedule to be looked at and couldn’t get it looked at until after the New Year. I had called Greg May Honda back in Texas to double check to see if they changed the oil before they sold it and said they did. I barely put over 1200 miles on the car since it was bought off the lot. I started doing research on it after the car engine seized up. Come to find out that there is a recall on the oil issue. I also found out that it would lead to the engine seizing up. I believe Pep boys might have reported the issue as of today for a safety recall on it. The screen on the Uconnect/stereo system has de-laminated. This causes ghost touches and the screen jumps around on its own. Controls switch on their own, from media, to navigation, to climate, to controls, etc…It will also make phone calls on its own and has even dialed 911. This all happens while driving. It causes a huge distraction which is a safety issue. It also makes the whole system inoperable. Based on my research this is a very common issue with 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokees.

UConnect screen delamination is causing "ghost touching" in system. Climate control, phone, music, vehicle controls - including air suspension settings, are all impacted depending on particular event. Some are just annoyance, some are safety concerns. Air suspension height adjustments and off road settings can be controlled in the UConnect screens. THE ONLY way to lock the air suspension for towing or jacking (tire repair, oil change, etc.) is through the UConnect screens. There are 1,000's of complaints about this system issue on Jeep forums, and I was surprised at the lack of NHTSA complaints when I logged in to see the status. As an owner, I've experienced persistent coolant leaks, which I've found is a widespread issue affecting many others. This problem stems from a fundamental design flaw in the water pump, not typical wear and tear. The issue centers on a small "freeze plug" that leaks when the engine reaches operating temperature. This plug serves no apparent purpose and causes premature failures and coolant leaks across numerous vehicles. Key points: The leak occurs consistently when the engine is hot, indicating a design-related problem. This issue potentially leads to engine overheating and severe damage. It affects many vehicles, particularly those with the 3.6L V6 engine. Extensive research on online forums confirms this is a common problem. A YouTube video [XXX] ) provides insight into the issue. The creator states: "Upon digging into this a bit deeper, I don't believe it's the 'weep hole'. It's actually like a small 'freeze plug' that leaks on these pumps. If you look through the pulley at the opposite side of the aluminum freeze plug that leaks, you will see the weep hole. This 'freeze plug' that leaks serves no purpose as far as I see it. It's just like they slapped this plug in the front of the pump… and it leaks when it gets hot." Given this evidence of a design flaw and its widespread impact, I urge NHTSA to: Investigate the water pump design of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and similar models. Assess the safety implications, including the risk of engine overheating and potential vehicle failures. Consider whether a recall or other corrective action is necessary. The fact that this is a design issue rather than wear-and-tear underscores its urgency. All vehicles with this water pump design are potentially at risk, regardless of mileage or maintenance history. Please see ALL the reports of the same exact issue. There is an issue with the 2018 Grand Cherokee Engines. This blown head gasket is now going to cost me $13,000 to get a new engine. Every report listed in this link IS THE SAME ISSUE. Please address the issues and reimburse owners of this Jeep having to replace their engines. A recall NHTSA 20V-699 was issued on our vehicle in March 2021. This is related to a Fire Hazard. The recall repair was done and component exchanged, now 3 years later and 35,000 miles we have exactly the same issue. A cracked EGR cooler, same as previous. My concern is that the replaced part is from the same batch as originally and as such they replaced a dangerous part with another dangerous part. The dealer and FCA refuses to replace the part as they say the recall has been closed. I my opinion this Fire Hazard still exists and repair was not done with a quality product, as it is exactly the same issue. as before.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V838000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air condition system independently turned on high regardless of the temperature the system was set to. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the U-connect entertainment center needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

All-wheel drive is no longer working due to messages stating "service anti-lock brake system," "service air suspension immediately," and check engine light. All lights and cautionary messages came on at the exact same moment while coming out of park over a year ago. I have had the vehicle repaired twice, and the dealership says, "It is a wiring issue," but within a month after being repaired each time, the messages and issues begin happening again.
