  • 2026 KIA CARNIVAL HYBRID
    - BALDWIN PARK, CA

-A "Check Hybrid system. Stop safely. " warning has come on 7 times now. The vehicle loses power and slows down abruptly before coming to a complete halt. This has happened on railroad tracks, the highway, and an intersection where my wife and children were almost hit by other motorists. The dealer has not been able to reproduce the code, but we have pictures and videos of said incidents. The vehicle has been inspected by Kia technicians and "fixed" multiple times, but this keeps happening and I will not risk my family's lives any longer. There has been zero warning every time this system failure has occurred. We are undergoing a buyback process with Kia corporate and are prepared to take legal action under Georgia state lemon laws. Thank you for your time.

  • 2023 KIA CARNIVAL
    - Yonkers, NY

I am reporting a safety defect involving my 2023 Kia Carnival SX Prestige. On June 6, 2025, I brought the vehicle to Yonkers Kia Service Center because of a strong gasoline odor. The dealership told me the fuel tank was swollen and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle remained at the dealership from June 6, 2025 through October 17, 2025. Kia later indicated that the fuel tank, canister, and vent valve had been replaced. When the vehicle was returned to me on October 17, 2025, it still smelled like gas. Within 24–48 hours, the same or related safety issues returned, including strong fuel odor, loss of engine power, check engine light, abnormal fuel consumption, and later a visible fuel leak, which I documented on video. Because the vehicle did not feel safe, I stopped driving it on October 19, 2025. In March 2026, the vehicle was towed back to Kia for renewed diagnosis. Kia later reported that one fuel injector was leaking and performed additional repairs. My VIN now shows open unrepaired Recall SC368 / NHTSA Recall 26V232. That recall states that the high-pressure cross-over fuel pipe nuts may loosen over time, resulting in a fuel leak and fire risk. The recall warning signs include fuel smell and/or check engine light, which directly overlap with the exact symptoms I repeatedly experienced and reported. I am reporting that this vehicle had repeat fuel-related safety failures, a prior extended repair attempt that did not resolve the issue, and was previously returned to me in what I believe was an unsafe condition.

  • 2026 KIA SPORTAGE
    - Myrtle Beach, SC

Comparing this 2026 KIA Sportage to what I have in the garage with 2019 Lexus RX 350, 2018 MB E300, and 2021 Honda CRV, the front collison of this KIA does not work as it should. If I keep moving the vehicles toward a car, the collision avoidance should give me a warning an brakes for me, however, this 2026 KIA Sportage does not respond at all. In addition, in order for the front sensors on the bumper to work, I need to press on the brake. The dealer said that there is nothing with this system and there is no way to prove it unless I ram into another car.

    - Rutherford, NJ

The latency of the parking sensors is so long that it is not safe. Even at the slowest crawl you hit something before the warning turns red/beep becomes constant. Even when you inch forward and stop you need to wait 1 second for the parking sensors to update. This is for front rear and side. The rear crossing alert is just as slow for the same reason. A software update is needed.

  • 2018 KIA OPTIMA
    - Alexandria, VA

2018 Kia Optima LX, 2.4L GDI Theta II engine. Approximately 128,000 miles. Reporting severe internal oil consumption that has progressed to engine misfire and shaking, consistent with late-stage Theta II connecting rod bearing failure. The vehicle is now unsafe to drive and has been parked. Timeline: Purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in December 2021. Excessive oil consumption began shortly after purchase. For approximately 4.5 years I have added about 1 quart of oil every 2 weeks to keep the engine from running dry. No external leaks have ever been found by any mechanic. Multiple independent mechanics attempted diagnosis and repair over this period. None resolved the issue. The vehicle has now developed a pronounced shake and apparent engine misfire, the textbook progression to rod bearing failure documented in NHTSA investigation PE19-004 and prior recalls/campaigns 17V-224, SC147, and SC172. Safety concerns: Sudden engine seizure or stall at highway speed creates a serious crash risk for me and surrounding traffic. Theta II 2.4L GDI rod bearing failure has been associated with under-hood fires. The defect develops gradually with no warning to the driver beyond elevated oil consumption, which is frequently dismissed as normal until catastrophic failure occurs. I am filing this complaint to document the failure and to add to NHTSA's data on the Theta II GDI 2.4L engine in 2018–2019 Optimas. This model year was excluded from the original 2017 recall but is included in the Hyundai and Kia Engine Litigation class settlement and the lifetime engine warranty extension. My vehicle's symptoms match the defect pattern exactly. I will pursue warranty engine replacement, but I want this safety failure on the federal record regardless of how Kia responds.

  • 2017 KIA NIRO
    - Knoxville, TN

The Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA) and the Under Hood Wiring Harness have failed due to internal fluid contamination and corrosion. Yes available for inspection. The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of motive power while driving. Per Safety Recall SC276, this component failure creates an electrical short and internal corrosion that poses a significant fire risk and potential for a sudden stall at high speeds, endangering the driver and other motorists. YES. Rusty Wallace Kia of alcoa confirmed the failure on 04/27/2026. They diagnosed the vehicle with DTCs P17EE and U1010. They provided a repair quote (RO XXX) for $9,431.48 to replace the corroded HCA and harness. YES. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Kia dealer (Rusty Wallace Kia of alcoa ). They are refusing to perform the Recall SC276 mandated repair, claiming it was "already completed" with a fuse swap in Jan 2024, even though the safety defect has now manifested as a full component failure. Yes. The HEV warning light and Check Engine light appeared. Symptoms include "Check Hybrid System" messages and the vehicle failing to engage the engine clutch. These symptoms appeared recently at approximately 107,000 miles. Then when i checked the car it vanished, no error on dashboard ,so i took the car back and was driving error showed up at 109k miles again They asked to repair the vehicle and the repair is not in my budget and i told them that its the recall related issue and they are denying and saying recall was done and they dont open recall again and I found in the document they provided they just did the fuse replacement not HCA unit and The fuse swap did help with the hca corrosion and its not in drivable state and it becae a fire hazard. • 2024 KIA EV6
    - University Heights, OH

2024 Kia EV6 leased January 2025. Vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall 24V-867 / Kia campaign SC327 for the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The recall remedy was performed at an authorized Kia dealer in July 2025 (software / operational logic update). The defect was not cured. Three months after the recall remedy was performed, the vehicle suffered complete loss of electrical power and would not move. It was towed to the Kia dealer. The dealer's own diagnostic recorded code P1A9096 — the exact diagnostic code Kia's recall instructs technicians to check for — and replaced the ICCU and high-voltage fuse. This is the recall-defined failure occurring AFTER the recall remedy was applied. Approximately three months later, the vehicle again suffered total loss of power and would not start in cold weather. It was towed in. The dealer replaced only the 12-volt battery and did not address the ICCU, despite the documented prior ICCU failure on this VIN. The 12V battery failure is a known downstream symptom of ICCU failure on this platform. Approximately one month after that, the vehicle returned for charging system failure ("vehicle charges briefly then stops") and a "check electrical/hybrid system" warning that appeared while driving. Diagnosed as charging port failure. Vehicle was out of service approximately 27 consecutive days. Total cumulative days out of service across four visits: approximately 35-40. Two safety-related stranding incidents resulted from these failures. Both occurred in winter conditions in Pennsylvania. In the first, the driver was stranded in a parking lot at night during a snowstorm in sub-zero conditions; three tow trucks were dispatched before a flatbed could recover the vehicle because the EV could not be towed conventionally with no power. In the second, the vehicle died in a school parking lot during a snowstorm; the first dispatched tow truck could not recover an EV with no power, and the driver had to walk multiple miles home in freezing
