2022 KIA SORENTO- Bronx , NY
on my way home Friday evening from work. After exiting the expressway , I made a right turn on the street going towards my house. My steering wheel locked to the right and almost caused me to run into another car. If I had not be driving slow than the speed limit or still on the expressway, this would have been a very bad accident, if not fatal! This is after the dealership made repairs on my vehicle and deemed it safe to drive.

Carnival was working fine then, without warning, I was unable to accelerate. Had entered highway and reached a maximum speed around 30 mph in a 55 mph zone. Pedal fully depressed and zero acceleration, dashboard read "check hybrid system, stop safely". Tried changing driving modes to no effect. Lots of cars speeding past as I pulled to the side to restart the vehicle, then it worked again without issue. Happened one other time, similar circumstances and results.

2017 KIA SOUL- Kingwood, TX
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. The contact added oil to the vehicle; however, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and failed to exceed 60 MPH while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the contact was informed that the engine replacement was not covered under an unknown class-action lawsuit settlement recall because only 12 out of the required 17 oil change service records were available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and made the same assessment. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,129.

2013 KIA OPTIMA- San Jacinto, CA
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Optima. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and failed to exceed 60 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the knock sensor and the harness had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on several occasions, and the vehicle was driven or towed to the dealer as needed. The dealer cleared the diagnostic trouble codes and informed the contact that a recall repair would not be completed unless the engine made loud knocking sounds or seized. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made an abnormally loud sound and seized. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the engine was not eligible for replacement due to a lack of maintenance records because the contact did not have all the oil change service records available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 297,000.

2024 KIA SPORTAGE- Surprsie, AZ
Sunroof on the vehicle shattered without being struck by projectile or road debris. The area where we were driving had no other cars near us at the time of the incident. There was no sound of something hitting then shattering, it just exploded. Examination of the sunroof did not reveal any points of impact, research done online has shown multiple other Kia Sportage owners with the same issue. Spontaneous shattering of the panoramic sunroof.

2021 KIA SELTOS- Millville, NJ
My vehicle recently idled roughly and shut off at low speeds and while stopped at intersections on my way to work. I brought it to an authorized Kia dealership the very next day. After researching my VIN, I discovered Kia Safety Recall #SC336 (NHTSA Campaign 25V099), which identifies a piston oil ring defect known to cause excessive oil consumption and internal engine damage. I promptly brought my vehicle to the dealership specifically to address this recall. However, the dealership did not complete recall-related repairs. Instead, they determined—without sufficient justification—that my vehicle’s issues were not related to the recall, but to a "crush washer". My vehicle exhibits the exact symptoms outlined in the recall, including excessive oil consumption, rough engine operation, and stalling. The dealership then attempted to attribute the oil consumption to a crush washer on the oil drain plug, despite there being no visible signs of oil leakage under my vehicle at any time. This explanation does not reasonably account for the level of oil loss I have experienced or the internal engine condition. According to official recall documentation filed with the NHTSA, the defect involves improperly manufactured piston oil rings that can damage cylinder walls, leading to excessive oil consumption, abnormal engine noise, rough operation, and ultimately engine failure or stalling. The recall further warns that continued operation may result in engine seizure and loss of drive power. Independent automotive reports confirms that this defect has affected over 137,000 vehicles, including 2021 Kia Seltos models, and in many cases requires full engine replacement due to internal damage caused by faulty piston rings. Additionally, documented consumer complaints describe the same pattern I have experienced—excessive oil consumption with no external leaks, worsening engine performance, and dealerships attributing the issue elsewhere despite clear alignment with the recall defect.
