My oil light came on around 91,000 miles. Kia is known for this issue being an oil pressure sensor issue. Happens around 80,000-100,000 miles. Its a pretty common issue and the labor for a $80 part costs up to $2,000.

  • 2020 KIA TELLURIDE
    - Festus, MO

For a while now i have had to add extra oil about a quart every so often (didnt chart mileage )between oil changes and I thought its just burning some oil. Last few months it went up to adding 2 quarts and recently I had to add 3 quarts of oil and I had just checked it 2 weeks ago. There is never a light or any kind of notice on dash panel about low oil. I have a epiletic daughter that requires a safe vehicle to get her to the hospital. So this is a real safety concern. I have been reading this is problem with Tellurides. Because of the oil consumption problem tellurides have been stalling while driving. This could be a life threatening situation with my daughter not to mention for anyone driving the vehicle. The dealer will not do an oil consumption test since I'm at 113,000 miles. I paid $40,000.00 for a quailty vehicle. It should not have these kind of problems. KIA manufacurer said call the local dealer, so its just a run around Please help us figure this out.

    - Normal , IL

The fuel gauge has erratic readings which frequently displays "low fuel" when in fact the fuel IS NOT LOW. The reverse is also true. The fuel gauge will occasionally indicate fuel is present in the vehicle when in fact THERE IS NONE resulting in running out of gas. This results in a dangerous seinero when driving in congested traffic areas since this can easily produce a traffic hazard and endanger occupants of this vehicle (and others). This is a known problem from multiple Kia Telluride owners.

  • 2015 KIA OPTIMA
    - Noblesville, IN

My engine failed in my 2015 Kia Optima. I took it to the Kia dealership in my city, and was advised to provide documentation of oil changes. In which I did, and was told that coverage for the engine recall was denied due to one gap where I went roughly 15,000 miles without an oil change. When asked when this gap was, they stated in 2021, and I asked how can I get documentation of that if I don’t have the receipt from that long ago. They stated that they need documentation to be able to approve the engine to be covered under the recall. it has been advised that Kia would have to prove exceptional neglect, in which one gap from 2021 is not exceptional neglect. I called the Kia. Customer service complaint line and filed a complaint with a case number, and was told that there’s nothing they can do without that documentation from that one gap. In which I asked to escalate this to a manager or supervisor and was told I could not do that. when I called the Kia dealership to see options, all they kept doing was trying to persuade me to just buy a new car asking don’t you just want a new car. I am without a vehicle and I have two kids that I need to help get to and from school doctors appointments as well as after school activities. I do not believe that a one gap should disqualify you from coverage of an engine under the recall.

  • 2019 KIA SOUL
    - Fort Worth, TX

Vehicle: 2019 Kia Soul 2.0L GDI VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 92,200 The engine and connecting rod bearings failed — a known defect in Kia’s Theta II GDI engines. The vehicle began making a loud knocking noise and would stall when turning to start the engine within days of purchase. This is consistent with the same defect addressed in Kia’s KSDS / PI2107 Product Improvement Campaign and Theta II Engine class-action settlement. Component failed: Engine. The engine is available for inspection. Safety risk: The engine stalls unpredictably, creating a major risk of collision or being stranded in traffic. The stalling has occurred more than once, and the car is unsafe to drive, per Moritz Kia. Confirmed by: Moritz Kia Fort Worth, which diagnosed internal engine failure and quoted $6,230 for replacement. Kia Consumer Affairs refused to open a case or perform the recall, claiming it was “past due,” though the vehicle is within the 15-year/150,000-mile lifetime warranty coverage. Maintenance history: CARFAX confirms regular oil and filter changes, most recently on 05/30/2025, proving the vehicle was properly maintained. Inspection: Completed by Kia dealership; no outside inspection yet. Warning symptoms: Engine knocking and stalling Summary: Kia is refusing recall service and case creation despite this being a known manufacturing defect, not a maintenance issue. The KSDS system only detects failure after it occurs and does not fix the defect. This creates a continuing safety hazard for consumers.
