  • 2023 KIA SPORTAGE
    - Churchton, MD

The contact owned a 2023 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle hydroplaned all 3 lanes on the highway. The vehicle hit a retaining wall, the vehicle bounced back, spun around, and faced oncoming traffic head-on. An oversized trailer crashed into the contact's vehicle head-on and pushed the vehicle into the middle lane, where it came to a stop. The driver’s and passenger’s side air bags did not deploy. Unknown if any warning lights were illuminated. However, the vehicle's system contacted 911. A police report was filed. The contact was taken to the hospital via ambulance due to sustaining severe injuries to the left shoulder, collapsed lung, chest abrasions, nerve damage to the abdominal area, nerve damage to the lower back, and a brain injury. The contact recently had surgery on her left shoulder. The vehicle was towed to a local towing yard. The insurance company was contacted and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The contact hired an attorney who hired an engineer to check the black box inside the vehicle and found that nothing was recorded. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. • 2025 KIA SOUL
    - DUNNELLON, FL

2025 Kia Soul LX Headlights. Totally inadequate standard headlights. Higher end models get LED headlights but this standard light system on the LX is dangerous on anything but well lit streets. Safety should not be an option. I would have upgraded to a model that has adequate headlights but was unaware of how bad the standard headlights were until after purchase. These standard headlights should never have been approved by the DOT. There are many reports online about this issue and I'm hoping it will be addressed soon.

  • 2016 KIA SORENTO
    - Green Cove Springs, FL

While driving on the highway, the vehicle engine began to shake violently. The check engine light came on. The car was driving normally prior to this moment. The car has been well maintained and is in excellent condition. I looked it up and found tons of cases that reference a judgement directive from the Theta II Engine Class Action Settlement (Case No. 8:17-cv-00838-JLS-JDE), where the warranty coverage has been extended due to known engine issues. The KSDS software update (SC260) was installed in 2023, by Kia of Orange Park. The vehicle now has approximately 127,121 miles. We towed the vehicle to Daytona Kia who diagnosed the engine as failed, but declined to initiate a warranty claim or submit the case to Kia Corporate because diagnostic trouble code P1326 was not present. I purchased this diagnostic for nearly $200 from Daytona Kia and they verified the second cylinder failed. They blamed it on a sticking fuel injector, but did not verify that this was the issue. Only stating that they believed this to be the case in their review. They did not conduct testing to rule out rod bearing failure or to verify fuel injectors were to blame for the issue. I asked for that. They checked to see if the service manager would be willing to do a BCS test on the vehicle. It was denied. I asked for definitive verification of the cause of the failure. They said I would have to pay for additional diagnostics to start that process. I contacted Kia corporate and asked them to intervene. Kia has denied my warranty claim, stating that the failure either doesn’t qualify under their extended warranty or that the lack of formal documentation disqualifies my case. In a recent interaction with the dealership, they also cited the lack of a specific diagnostic trouble code (DTC) as a reason not to proceed with warranty repairs…despite the fact that many vehicles with this engine fail without triggering that code, and the software update (SC260) was already applied.

  • 2012 KIA SPORTAGE
    - Tampa, FL

I was sold this car in April 2025. June 29 2025 my engine stopped working. Confirmed it is entirely blown. I was unaware of open unaddressed recalls when I purchased the car. Because of the recalls not being addressed by previous owners, kia and the warranty company refused to fix the engine.

  • 2023 KIA SPORTAGE HYBRID
    - Easton, MD

The hybrid powertrain system failed. Specifically, the vehicle remains stuck in EV mode and does not switch to the gasoline engine under acceleration, leading to complete loss of power while driving. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction caused the vehicle to lose all forward power in traffic. I had to pull over into emergency lanes and restart the vehicle multiple times. This is extremely dangerous and could lead to a crash, especially on highways or during merging. It puts both myself and others on the road at risk. The Kia authorized service center was able to reset the adaptive system, and the hybrid warning light turned off temporarily. However, the issue reappeared the same day. The dealer claims they cannot reproduce it and refuses further diagnosis without replication. The vehicle was only inspected by a Kia-authorized dealership. Kia Consumer Affairs has not yet conducted a manufacturer-level inspection or assigned a field technician. Yes. A “Check Hybrid System. Stop Safely” warning message appears before the failure occurs. Then check engine light was on. It first appeared immediately after a routine service (oil change, tire rotation, multi-point inspection) on 26th June 2025, just 2 days after my regular service. The warning disappears after restarting but returns intermittently, typically after the EV battery is fully drained and the car fails to switch to gas mode.
