  • 2012 KIA SORENTO
    - Jonesboro, AR

The contact owned a 2012 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, she was informed by an individual if she was the owner of the vehicle since it was smoking and caught on fire. Prior to the fire, unknown warning lights would illuminate and un-illuminated intermittently. The Fire Department was on the scene and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and then towed by the insurance company. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the VIN not being included in a recall at the time the failure occurred. The contact received NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) after the vehicle caught fire and was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. I am told my car did have the software update for the instrument display but I still experienced issue where I turn on the car and the display in the middle is completely black except it shows D for the gear I am in. Can’t see the speed can’t see if the blinkers are on!

Found crack in windshield while parked in garage, approximately 8 inches long on passenger side about 6" up from bottom of glass starting at the A pillar. Crack doubled in size by following day. There was no impact, it just cracked in a single line horizontal to the middle of the glass.

    - Portage, IN

I bought this car for my daughter during her second year at IU Bloomington, IN. She called in a panic, saying the car hesitated and stopped. She also shared if she turns car off, the car will restart. I advised her to take it to the nearby KIA dealership for inspection. The mechanic, after a test drive, reported no issues and found no error codes using an OBD-II scanner. When my daughter returned home, I took the car for a test drive and noticed a clicking noise. I checked the oil and added three quarts of Valvoline full synthetic oil 0W-20. I'm disappointed with how she was treated at the dealership. I've learned that adding an oil additive every 1,000 miles is recommended for this common problem. Now that the car has 60,000 miles, the cost of oil is significant, and I won't be repurchasing a KIA. I also feel guilty about trading in this car and possibly passing on issues to another owner. I'm reporting this now due to the added costs and worry that others might not share their experiences.

I have a 2014 Kia Sorento 4DR LX AWD with snow white pearl exterior paint. I bought the vehicle new with 91miles on it from the dealership in Mentor Ohio. The vehicle has always been in my garage when not driving. Just before Christmas I noticed a small (dime size) piece of paint missing from my drivers side pillar then a few days later on the passenger side pillar almost half the paint was gone! I took my car to the dealership and they told me that they were going to log the complaint and took my VIN and said it was probably from a stone chip in the paint? What? A stone chip does not cause almost all of the paint to flake off???? I worked at a car dealership in the Service Department for years and this is not from a stone chip - its a paint defect. I'm not sure if this letter will do anything but just wanted my paint problem noted as I've seen many other complaints about the same issue. • 2015 KIA SPORTAGE
    - Madrid, NY

We were driving down the highway and without any kind of warning the car lost all power I had to move to the shoulder of the road and wait over 5 hrs for a tow truck and then get a hotel room for the night before we could get a rental car the next morning once they opened. Then, a couple weeks later we had to have the vehicle towed back home to NY since we broke down on [XXX] in PA. Then we had to have it towed to a repair shop and they told me it was rod iron knocking and was covered under the Theta II class action lawsuit according to the website when the vin# was inputted to the website. And Kia is saying it's not covered because of a recall that wasn't completed but being I never received the notification as I wasn't the 1st or 2nd owner of the vehicle. • 2017 KIA SORENTO
    - Concord, NC

Vehicle up to date on oil changes. Driving down interstate and vehicle just stopped without warning. Message to contact a dealer popped up. When diagnostic put on vehicle shows camshaft and crankshaft bad. No oil on dipstick AT ALL. Oil light never came on showing low. Never seen oil in garage so no leaks. Sensors showing misfire were changed along with spark plugs and coil packs. Codes never cleared. Car is not drivable but has been well maintained and up to date on everything. After researching I have seen multiple pages and pages of the same exact complaint on same exact vehicle. There is a recall for certain 2017 kia Sorento 3.3L V6 engines but shows mine is not affected although my vehicle is the exact same as the recall and having exact same issue as the recall. I would like this looked into and a explanation for the engine issue with help on fixing it through Kia. This is a good vehicle never gave ANY issues at all, nor gave any warnings on the issue that caused it to stop running.

I took my 2013 into the Kia dealer on 1/19/21 to checkout an issue with the steering wheel it felt as though when you went to turn the wheel the steering of the tires took a while to catch up. The service advisor wrote it up to replace the power steering coupler and it was repaired. The mileage at that time was 28,300. It is now April of 2022 I went back to the dealer for other work and told the service advisor that the same issue was happening again with steering. She informed me the the dealership only had to repair it once. The issue that I am having is this has been a problem 2011 to at least 2022 they sold the car with a faulty part and have been doing the repair with the same faulty. My mileage now on the car is 38,800. When this issue represented again in 2022 the mileage was approximately 34,500 That’s just over 6,000 miles. The repair is around $500.00. So if I repair now at that cost of $500.00 and the repair only last 6,000 miles I will be repairing it at 44,000 miles. I feel that they should repair the faulty part because it is no less a safety issue now as it was originally.
