2017 KIA SORENTO- riverview, FL
Following an engine replacement performed at Billion Auto Kia in Rapid City, SD, I began experiencing persistent electrical system failures in my 2017 Kia Sorento. The vehicle alarm would activate randomly without cause, including while I was inside the vehicle with the engine running. Additionally, the door locks would engage spontaneously, trapping me inside the vehicle and preventing me from exiting. The only way to exit was to forcibly pull the door handle, which triggered the alarm. I have video documentation of these incidents. I presented the vehicle to Billion Auto Kia in Rapid City, SD — an authorized Kia dealership with these exact symptoms. The service department was unable to identify a root cause and provided no repair path, returning the vehicle to me unrepaired. 7 months later, Courtesy Kia of Brandon in Brandon, FL, another authorized Kia dealership diagnosed the root cause as a failed Body Control Module (BCM). During the service visit, a Kia dealership technician personally witnessed the alarm activating spontaneously while operating the vehicle, further confirming the defect. The BCM failure was present and active at the time of the prior authorized dealer visit and was not detected. The failed BCM has also caused the gear shifter to become completely stuck, unable to shift out of Park, leaving the vehicle fully inoperable. This vehicle has had 6 recall actions performed since purchase — 4 completed after my purchase in August 2023, and two completed prior to my purchase. Despite this recall history, the vehicle has experienced an engine failure and a BCM failure within less than 3 years of my ownership. Being trapped inside a vehicle with a malfunctioning lock system represents a serious safety hazard, particularly in the event of an accident or emergency requiring rapid exit. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether a safety defect exists in the Body Control Module of 2017 Kia Sorento vehicles and whether additional recall action is warranted.

2021 KIA SELTOS- Jacksonville , FL
To Whom It May Concern, I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding my 2021 Kia Seltos (VIN: [XXX]). My vehicle was previously serviced by Kia in connection with a recall in 2021. Despite the recall-related repair being completed, the issue has not been resolved. My check engine light continues to illuminate, and my vehicle has repeatedly stalled and completely shut off while stopped at red lights and intersections. This creates a serious safety hazard. When a vehicle unexpectedly loses power in traffic, it places the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists at risk of an accident, injury, or worse. I understand that there have been reports, recalls, investigations, and consumer complaints involving certain Kia vehicles with engine-related issues, including concerns regarding piston oil rings, excessive oil consumption, engine damage, and engine failure. While I am not a mechanic and cannot state with certainty that this is the cause of my vehicle’s problems, I believe my vehicle may be experiencing a similar issue based on the symptoms it is displaying. My concern is that the ongoing engine warning light and repeated stalling events may be related to an underlying engine defect that was either not corrected by the previous recall repair or has developed despite that repair. Given the known concerns surrounding certain Kia engines and piston oil ring-related issues, I believe my vehicle should be thoroughly reviewed to determine whether it qualifies for coverage under any applicable recalls, warranty extensions, service campaigns, or defect-related repair programs. I have been informed that my vehicle is not covered; however, I respectfully request that Kia reevaluate my VIN and investigate whether the stalling condition is connected to any known engine-related defects or recall conditions. I am requesting that: • Kia provide towing assistance if the vehicle is unsafe to operate. • Kia perform a complete diagnostic inspection at no cost. 2025 KIA SORENTO HYBRID- Roswell, GA
My 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid, with approximately 20,000 miles, has experienced a sudden loss of power and entered a limp-mode condition twice within two days. During both incidents, the vehicle would not accelerate normally and was unable to maintain expected traffic speed, creating a significant safety hazard. No warning lights, warning messages, or check-engine light appeared before or during either event. After the incidents, no OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes were present. Stopping and starting the vehicle restored normal operation temporarily, but the problem reoccurred. The sudden and unexplained loss of propulsion without any warning or stored fault codes increases the risk of a crash, particularly when merging, passing, or driving in traffic.
