2019 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER Complaints

The fuel tank protective shield underneath my vehicle has severely rusted and corroded, with visible perforations forming through the metal (photos attached). This shield protects the fuel tank from road debris and also helps secure the tank to the vehicle. The corrosion appears to be caused by galvanic corrosion: the steel fuel tank shield is bolted directly to an aluminum heat shield, and the contact between these dissimilar metals accelerates corrosion of the steel component. This is a known issue affecting numerous vehicles of this make and model, suggesting a design defect. Safety concerns: The shield is structural — it helps hold the fuel tank in place. Continued deterioration could compromise the tank's mounting and lead to the tank dropping or shifting. As the shield fails, the fuel tank itself becomes exposed to road debris that could puncture it, creating a fuel leak and fire hazard. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms inside the vehicle. The damage was only discovered during a visual inspection underneath the vehicle. The component is available for inspection upon request. UNKNOWN whether the manufacturer has issued any formal acknowledgment, but the failure pattern is consistent across many owner reports.

The contact owns a 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65-70 MPH, the contact believed that the battery warning light was illuminated before the vehicle shut off. The steering wheel became inoperable. The contact was able to pull over to the median, where an independent mechanic attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to VEX European, where an unknown diagnostic result was retrieved, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact later became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V248000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) online and associated the failure with the recall; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

I am reporting a premature failure of the daytime running light (DRL) system on my Range Rover Velar. Both DRLs have failed within approximately one year of each other, indicating a likely systemic defect rather than normal wear. The DRLs are integrated LED components within the headlamp assembly and are not serviceable independently. When the DRL fails, the entire headlight assembly must typically be replaced. I have been informed that a single replacement headlight assembly can cost approximately $3,000 (parts only, excluding labor). This results in an extremely high repair cost for a lighting component that should last the life of the vehicle. When one DRL fails and the other remains operational, the vehicle presents uneven forward lighting, where one side is illuminated and the other is not. This creates an inconsistent lighting signature and may not meet federal lighting performance and visibility expectations. This asymmetry can impair other drivers’ ability to accurately perceive the vehicle’s position and width, especially in low-visibility daytime conditions such as rain or fog. The failures occurred without any physical damage or external cause, suggesting an internal defect in the LED modules or associated electronics. Reports from other owners indicate this may be a broader issue affecting this model. I want to add the the first incident was September 2024 on the right side. I had it repaired. Now the left side is gone. I have received a ticket my officers for the light being out due to the lighting disparity.

The steel fuel tank shield and mounting cradle assembly on my Land Rover Range Rover (L405) is experiencing catastrophic structural failure due to excessive corrosion. This appears to be a result of galvanic corrosion between the steel cradle and the aluminum chassis components. The corrosion has caused the metal straps and support brackets to rot through completely, compromising the physical security of the fuel tank. This poses an unreasonable safety risk, as the fuel tank is no longer properly supported and is at risk of detaching from the vehicle while in motion. Furthermore, the jagged, rusted edges of the failing shield are in direct contact with the fuel tank, creating a potential puncture hazard and subsequent fire risk. This is a known structural defect within the L405 community, often resulting in immediate vehicle grounding during safety inspections due to the risk of fuel system detachment.

I was driving on the highway during heavy rain and there was a huge leak coming through the window in the backseat started dripping all over the seat and all over the seatbelts spreading above head into the front. I immediately pulled over because it scared me. I was scared it was going to continual leaking into the front steering and airbags

My 2019 Range Rover Velar P250 R-Dynamic SE began experiencing cooling system issues approximately 5 months after purchase. The vehicle was brought to an authorized Land Rover dealership several times during the warranty period. Despite these visits, the underlying problem — including cracked thermostat housing, leaking coolant hoses, and plastic cooling system components — was never permanently repaired. Over time, the unresolved defect caused catastrophic engine and turbocharger failure, which I paid for out of pocket. The cooling issues are consistent with known Land Rover service bulletins covering: “Thermostat housing / coolant outlet leaks”, “Coolant crossover pipe / O-ring leaks”, “Turbocharger coolant pipe leaks”. The defect substantially affects vehicle reliability, safety, and value. I have attached: Dealer repair orders, Independent shop invoices for cooling repairs, engine and turbocharger replacement invoice, timeline of events showing repeated repair attempts and resulting failures.

Vehicle experienced sudden and complete shutdown while driving immediately after crossing railroad tracks. Dashboard warning displayed “battery failure.” Vehicle would not restart and would not shift into neutral, leaving it immobilized in traffic. Police department called and traffic was managed by 2 police officers. Vehicle was stuck on roadway and required manual override procedure (unknown to owner) to shift into neutral before being pushed off roadway. Vehicle was towed 250 miles. Dealership has indicated hybrid battery/system failure and ordered replacement battery. Concern: Sudden total loss of propulsion and inability to shift into neutral creates serious roadway safety hazard. If this had occurred seconds earlier, vehicle could have been immobilized directly on railroad tracks. Request investigation into hybrid battery/system failures causing sudden total shutdown without safe-mode capability.

The infotainment system system that controls the AC RADIO DEFROST HEATED SEATS, SETTINGS, DRIVEABILITY SETTINGS does not turn on. This is my wifes car and she has to drive sometimes with no defrost while its raining and not AC/Heat control while the weather is cold or super hot in LA. The problem has been diagnosed by the dealer and there has been a recall issued for this specific recall, just not for my vin number. So Land Rover Corporate refuses to fix it or provide any financial help. The car has 45,000miles and we are the original owner. I believe our vin should also be included in the recall of the Land over Sport Infotainment system. I believe our model was not included because it was a diesel and not many range rover sport diesels are in the States,.

Driving down the road and the vehicle lost all fuel pressure and engine shut off in the middle of the road. Turns out to be a catastrophic Bosch CP4 failure. Thankfully I was not on the highway otherwise this likely would've caused an accident because besides steering and brakes i had no way to get the car out of the road and probably wouldn't have made it to the shoulder on the 5 lane highway. My safety was put at risk by having to sit on a busy road unable to move the car hoping no one came up and hit me. The issue has been confirmed by my independent service center. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or anyone else besides my mechanic. The battery light and check engine light came on approximately 2 seconds before the car died in the road. Other than than that no symptoms

The contact stated that while driving and slowing down to approximately 5 MPH, the braking system malfunctioned and the vehicle did not immediately stop. The contact indicated that while pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle continued to drive forward and crashed into the rear of a second vehicle. During the crash, no air bags deployed . No injuries were reported. A police report was taken at the scene, and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failures was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 42,000.
