2010 LEXUS RX- Broomfield, CO
Pot affects 2007-2011 RX350/450= 459,285 units. 1. On Friday, [XXX], the oil cooler pipe burst on our 2010 RX350. 2. All six quarts of engine oil were lost in approximately 700 feet while traveling at 70–75 mph on the highway. 3. Massive amounts of smoke poured from the front of the vehicle & through the air vents, causing my wife & daughter to fear for their safety due to risk of a fire & smoke inhalation. 4. No warning lights appeared on the dash, meaning the vehicle could easily have been driven to engine failure had there been no smoke. 5. 2 Colorado Department of Transportation vehicles & a State Trooper stopped to be sure they were ok & monitor the risk of a fire. 8. Towed & Lexus dealership confirmed seen many 3rd gen RXs with this same issue, some with seized engines because no dash warnings were triggered. 9. Lexus updated part from RUBBER to STEE, acknowledging design flaw. Major Safety Concerns This failure represents a serious safety risk that could have resulted in fire, injury, death, or catastrophic engine/property damage. - Oil spray on hot engine components like the headers & exhaust pipes (700-1100F) poses a legitimate fire hazard considering oil flashpoint (400-700F). - Oil sprayed onto the brakes increased the risk of loss of braking & traction control in sudden/emergency maneuvers. - Engine seizing/stop due to loss of oil could result in an accident if the vehicle stops suddenly on the highway when it seizes, loses control, or the electric steering, braking &/or other safety systems fail. - If this had occurred on a mountain descent from the Rockies into Denver or any other long descent, a fire caused by oil spraying on 700-800F brake rotors or loss of control could have occurred. - Entire underside of the vehicle is coated in oil, contaminating the rear brakes, potentially damaging wiring, solenoids, & other safety-critical components, as well as representing an additional fire risk due to oil on the exhaust pipe. The incident happened on August 27, 2025, at about 8:30 in the morning when I was trying to park the car in a parking lot. As I came to the parking space to park the car with my foot on the brake pedal, the car accelerated all of a sudden after it had stopped before I could shift the gear lever to “Park”. The car went over the curb. I reversed and tried to park the car again in the same spot. The car accelerated again and went over the curb, and this time ended up going all the way to the two-way traffic road located ahead of the curb. Fortunately, there was no traffic on the road at that time and no pedestrian on the sidewalk, and no one got hurt. The car stopped in the middle of the road. I drove back to the parking lot and tried to park the car again in the same spot. This time the car stopped without any incident. The dashboard said, “System Malfunction” and said to take the car to the dealership. I drove to the Lexus dealership without any incident. There was significant damage in the front and both sides of the car. I told Lexus what had happened. A case manager was assigned. An inspector was sent to inspect the car. After the inspection, he sent me a report. The report was technical in nature and had graphs and data points without any explanation. I could not understand the report. He told me that the report was sent to Toyota and Toyota would get back to me after they had analyzed the data downloaded by him. Toyota sent me the report, and the report said that my foot was on the accelerator at that time and the car functioned properly. I am pretty sure that my foot was on the brake pedal at that time and not on the accelerator. Toyota was not willing to answer any questions I had and told me to get a second opinion. Currently, my car is in the auto body shop being repaired via my insurance. Even though, no further incident has happened to date, I am afraid that this could happen again in the future, possibly badly hurting or even killing people.

I have a 2022 Lexus RX350 F Sport. There are many complaints for this problem with this era of Lexus that happen daily. When pulling out into traffic the vehicle stutters or hesitates; this could cause a serious accident with injuries or death. I think it is a problem with the transmission shift programming. In an attempt to be fuel efficient, Lexus created a serious safety problem in my opinion. My car is under warranty, I brought it to the dealer and they said that is normal and a known issue with that era of Lexus; there is no fix or repair. Despite being under warranty, I paid to have the transmission system reset to learn my style of driving. The reset had no effect positive or negative. There were 750,000 Lexus RX's made between 2016 and 2022. Nearly all are affected by this problem. Note: Lexus RX450 hybrid uses a different transmission and likely does not have this problem. Please force Lexus to find a fix for this likely injurious, potentially deadly issue. Gemini AI reports this as a very common problem with this generation of Lexus RX. https:XXX I know it may have been helpful to have had a crash, injury, or fatality to help bolster my argument, but isn't the point to avoid that? Please don't let a numbers game cause more injuries or deaths. This is a known wide-scale problem that Lexus is not fixing. Thank you for your consideration. 2022 LEXUS NX- Chicago, IL
The sunroof exploded while I was driving on the highway, traveling at approximately 70 mph. There was frost on the car & I had the defroster up high when initially getting into the car. However, by the time I got on the highway, it was turned down to the 2nd level. Prior to this occurring, I did not hear any noise or anything that would cause me to think there was something wrong with the sunroof. The explosion caused me to duck down immediately, but there were no other vehicles around me. The vehicle has been inspected and repaired. I filed a claim with my Insurance company & had the repairs completed at a local body shop. However, I do believe they took the vehicle to Lexus to be repaired.

I entered then attempted to start my Lexus on November 11, 2025. The car would not start - the dashboard lights fleshed briefly, then the car was completely dead. There was not a light on anywhere. The doors would not open and the windows would not roll down. I was trapped. fortunately I had my cell phone so I was able to call my wife who was inside of our house. She could not open the door with the manual key, She called AAA. The tech hooked up some power device under the hood and the car started and seems OK. This was frightening. I was trapped in the car and running out of air. I could have suffocated.

I was driving and my car has a certain jerking motion to it, as I tried to break and accelerate the car wasn’t able to stop or move properly. As a result I rear ended the car in front of me. In addition to that my airbag wouldn’t go off after the accident so it seems like there was a malfunction. Lexus always assured me that all system ran well and that there was nothing wrong with the car. I made all necessary repairs they told me to make a despite my questions about the car being fully functional, they still didn’t warn me and told me that my car was fine every time I took it in or got work done on my car.

During heavy wind driven rain the front sensors start to show errors on the screen. These errors cause the the advance safety systems and parking sensors to deactivate. The warnings state to clean the sensors. Sometimes stopping the vehicle and turning off and on the ignition seems to resent but it does happen again. Usually this takes about 30 minutes of heavy rain to cause the. All other functions of the vehicle work but most safety systems appear to deactivate because of the sensors. This should not happen during a time when the systems are most needed.
