2024 MAZDA CX-5- Palm Harbor, FL
While driving on the road at the posted speed limit (55 mph), I heard a gunshot-like sound. There was no debris on the road and no drivers close ahead. After hearing the sound, I hear wind above me. I open the shade of my sunroof and see that the glass on the sunroof had exploded. The sunroof was not open prior to the incident and no windows were open either. The AC was on minimal capacity. After getting off the road and looking at what happened, the glass on the sunroof had completely exploded out. You could tell by the shape of the glass that it bursted from within, either due to pressure, faulty glass, improper assembly/manufacturing, etc.

2019 MAZDA CX-5- Mechanicsville, VA
I started to smell a burning smell while I was driving and noticed smoke coming from under the hood along with the burning smell. When I parked the car I noticed a bunch of oil leaking from under the car. I took the car to get checked out and there was oil all under the bottom of the car and it was confirmed that there was a very bad oil leak which occurred due to a crack in the cylinder head. No check engine lights or any indication of this issue aside from discovering the burning smell, smoke from under the hood, and a significant amount of oil underneath the car. The car hasn’t been driven in a month because of this issue. When you turn the car on you can hear a ticking sound coming from under the hood. The bad part is there was no indication. A 2019 with 50,000 ish miles shouldn’t have this problem and I confirmed that with mechanics and Mazda. This is a safety risk as you can’t safely drive the car without being concerned about the lack of oil in the car due to the leak as well as the smoke coming from under the hood, not being able to drive the car thus resulting in needing the car towed in order for the car to be serviced for this problem. I was told that if the oil continues to leak and if I was to drive it the engine could start to have issues and possibly turn off due to the leakage. This leak had oil all over the exhaust system as well.

2019 MAZDA CX-5- Pasadena, CA
This car has less than 37,000 miles on it it has significant oil leaks from the valve cover gasket, it’s timing cover gasket and now it had been determined it has a cracked cylinder head. This was covered by 3 Service alerts with the cracked cylinder head being SA-031/21. None of the dealers notified us of the issue when serviced Galpin Mazda and New Century Mazda. But Big O Tires did. The two oil leak gasket repairs cost over $1600. The car is 8 months past warranty. The car is burning oil when driven. Due to the leak and the smoke particles and smell enter the cabin. The engine smokes when shut down instill it cold down. The smoke particles in the cabin are dangerous. The engine oil light appeared in late November (my daughter’s car, she is away at college). We found out the depth of the oil leak issues the second and fourth week of December. The fact that the dealers did not notice us or do preemptive repairs is a major failure by the Mazda organization.

2019 MAZDA CX-5- The Woodlands, TX
We were locked out of the car on a road trip due to a dead battery. We needed to open the car door to pop the hood in this emergency situation. With the Battery down, we had to use the physical keys provided by Mazda to unlock the door. Both Mazda's original keys did not open the driver-side door. We were stranded and had to call emergency key services to open the door. The purpose of physical keys is to open the car in case of emergency but in Mazda CX5 case they were useless. We have also reported the issue to Mazda and are awaiting a response.

2022 MAZDA MAZDA3- Los Altos, CA
The passenger-side "airbag off" light does not go off, even with an adult in the passenger seat. This is a US car without an ability to disable the airbag, so this should never happen. We assume this means that the airbag will not inflate in an accident. It happens on about 60% of drives with a passenger, and the dealer was unable to reproduce.

2019 MAZDA CX-5- Deale, MD
I have a 2019 Mazda cx 5 with only 67,000 miles on it and the cylinder head is cracked and leaking oil everywhere. I have noticed TSBs released for this issue, but it seems to be a very common issue with most people not being covered for a very major repair. Mazda refuses to fix the issue created by the improper build of this component and may lock people's engines if not caught soon enough

2025 MAZDA CX-70 PLUG-IN HYBRID- Chesapeake, VA
Nothing has malfunctioned but I want to complain about the false advertising of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus. This car is the most expensive one Mazda sells and they exclude so many features from it that the Top trim inline 6 has. This is supposed to be the same car but hybrid. My chief complaints are deleting the lighting on the liftgate and not having the full lighting on the headlights. They are replaced with non functional dummy lights. That’s a safety hazard on such a large vehicle. Another feature I was unaware that I did not have was tilting side mirrors. Top trim of inline 6 has it. PHEV does not. Something is not adding up here and the amount of features missing on the top trim is aggravating especially when you consider the cost of the vehicles side by side and what you sacrifice to have PHEV vs inline 6. There are so many complaints about this car not having the same features as its gas counterpart. I took my car to the dealership on two separate occasions for these complaints because I thought they were defects. What also irritates me is that the PHEV is not even worth charging because you only get 27 miles of electric range. It does not last 27 miles though. I’m losing so many features because of these 27 miles and it’s unacceptable. Plus I have 2 recalls on the vehicle already and I can’t afford to trade it back in for the inline 6.

2022 MAZDA CX-5- Depew, NY
Mazda’s CX-5 engines, particularly in earlier models, have been known to experience issues with Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (HLAs), which are responsible for maintaining proper valve clearance. Many owners have reported a persistent tapping or ticking noise, especially during cold starts. This issue is often caused by air bubbles or insufficient oil supply to the HLAs, and cold weather exacerbates the problem as thicker oil struggles to circulate until the engine warms up. The HLAs have also faced criticism for their sensitivity to oil pressure and quality, making them prone to failure in less-than-ideal conditions. Mazda claims that replacements and redesigns have resolved these issues in newer engine models and has not issued any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for models after 2021. However, I experienced the HLA “ticking” noise in my 2022 CX-5, suggesting the issue has not been fully addressed. I am concerned about the longevity of these parts and potential repair costs in the future, as Mazda seems to be dismissing the problem. I have a video capturing the noise but cannot attach it to this form. If interested, please contact me, and I can provide the video. Additionally, there are countless videos of similar issues shared on the CX-5 subreddit, which can be found by searching “clicking” at the following link: [XXX] .
