    - Suffolk, VA

When driving at highway speed (>60mph), the driver side mirror appears to be vibrating, and when attempting to focus on images in the mirror, the images appear blurred. Over time, the blurring vision starts to make the driver feel dizzy when on long (3+ hrs) road trips. This was initially noticed/experienced on a road trip from Illinois to Norfolk, Virginia, and again on two more trips to Washington DC from Norfolk VA. Needless to say, the issue is persistent every time at highway speeds. The issue was reported to a local dealership in Chesapeake, VA, on October 2nd, 2024. Initially, the dealer said they could not replicate the issue. However, upon going on the test driver with a "senior mechanic," the issue was acknowledged. Dealer also picked a random Mazda CX 90 inline (non PHEV) from the lot, and the issue was again observed on test drive, with a more pronounced vibration in both mirrors. The dealer however declined to address or report the issue. Instead, the dealer maintained that the issue was unique to CX90s, so it is normal in this model. On October 9th, this issue was reported to Mazda USA and was assigned case number [XXX]. Bottom line: this issue may be "normal" in Mazda CX 90s, but that is not normal driving conditions, and poses a safety risk to drivers taking (long) road trips in this vehicle. This issue potentiates any feeling of fatigue driving on road trips and deserves attention and a remedy. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Approximately six weeks ago, I began to notice the steering locking up ever so slightly as I made corrections in sweeping turns at 50 mph or so. In the beginning, I thought that it was road imperfections, but then it became more persistent and undeniable. Following this, it began to lock up more so when turning from a standing stop and accelerating, as when I was merging into traffic from my subdivision street. Some days, I notice it more than others. I was unnerved. I took the vehicle to the dealer, reported the concern, and was regarded as a purple squirrel. I was told that every update related to the steering had been completed and that there was nothing that they could or would do. The problem remained. With the concern remaining, I returned to the dealer and was told that someone else with the exact vehicle reported the problem the day before. Still, there was nothing that they could do as Mazda had not provided any guidance. I do not want to drive the vehicle. It is unsafe.

My 2018 Mazda CX-5 Touring has been experiencing problems with the multimedia display for over a year now. At random times the multimedia display cycle through all the menu options (radio stations, navigation, maintenance system, etc) on its own. Makes unwanted phone calls, changes radio settings, attempts to reset maintenance reminders and computer settings. We don't know what is it is trying to do behind the scenes. This represents a risk while driving and needs to be a recall to address this issue as it is very distracting while driving.

I am experiencing an issue with the infotainment system in my vehicle where it behaves erratically and intermittently without any input from me. Radio Stations Change Automatically: The system switches between radio stations on its own, even when I haven’t touched the controls. Unwanted Phone Calls: The system will sometimes dial random contacts from my phone without any command or input from me. This has led to accidental calls. Dropped Calls: When I’m on a phone call via the car's Bluetooth connection, the system frequently drops the call or switches to a different function, like the radio or media player, cutting off the conversation. Erratic Behavior During Media Playback: Occasionally, the system will change media sources (e.g., switching from Bluetooth audio to the radio) or pause/unpause media randomly. These issues are not tied to any specific driving conditions or user actions. It seems like the infotainment system has "a mind of its own" and is functioning independently, which creates safety concerns, especially when I'm driving.

Engine cylinder head is leaking coolant. This is a known issue by Mazda as they have submitted a TSB on the issue but have yet to submit a recall. The leak causes overheating along with pollution of coolant fluid into the environment. The problem was diagnosed by a Mazda dealership. The leaking occurred before a light came on the dashboard. The light on the dashboard only came on once the engine began overheating.

While driving, I received a warning that the engine in my car was overheating. Upon arriving home and parking, I noticed pooling under the car. My car was due for an oil change so the next day I dropped off the car for the oil change and mentioned the overheating message and leak to the technician thinking the fix would be routine. To my surprise, I was told my vehicle had a serious coolant leak related to a cracked cylinder. I was advised to take the vehicle to a Mazda dealer. Morrie's Mazda in Minnetonka, MN confirmed the cracked cylinder head which required a full engine replacement despite the car being only ~5 years old and having ~63,000 miles. Mazda had issued a technical service bulletin on this issue but had not issued a recall. As a result, I was left with a large repair bill to replace the engine in a relatively new car. This is a serious issue and I feel Mazda put my life and others in jeopardy by not recalling vehicles and letting customers drive with the risk of the engine overheating.

The infotainment system on the Mazda consistently glitches causing vehicle settings to be changed while the vehicle is in motion or stopped. The volume changes, navigation settings change, maintenance settings change including door settings and any setting that can be controlled by the touch screen. If a phone is connected to the system it will make calls and stop volume on system. Additionally, when reversing and the back up camera is enabled/used the screen glitches and you can no longer see a large portion of the rear view - making it a very large safety hazard. There are thousands of people who report this and little has been done for years other than people being charged for an entire replacement and the issue just comes back. Please see duffy v. Mazda, filed this year. There has also been another Mazda model where the infotainment was identified by nhtsa to be faulty - the repair period was extended 7 years but has been expired for years now - it has not covered any of the CX models. Dealers are very aware of this.
