  • 2023 MAZDA CX-30
    - Clearwater, FL

I am the original owner of a 2023 Mazda CX-30 AWD (VIN: [XXX]), purchased new on XXX from Mazda of Clearwater, [XXX]. This vehicle has experienced four separate warranty failure events involving critical safety systems within approximately 32 months and 44,530 miles of ownership. In June 2026, at approximately 44,500 miles, my 2023 Mazda CX-30 AWD exhibited sudden RPM lock and inability to shift, with delayed and jerky acceleration. Dashboard warning lights activated including transmission malfunction indicators. DTCs P0756 (Shift Solenoid B Stuck Off) and P0780 (Shift Malfunction) were set. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Mazda dealership. The dealer confirmed the concern and contacted Mazda's regional tech specialist. The valve body was replaced first per Mazda's direction; however, the vehicle continued to exhibit rough and delayed shifting on test drive. Mazda then directed the dealer to replace the full transmission assembly. The repair required 35 days at the dealership. This failure did not occur in isolation. The same vehicle had previously required warranty replacement of brake components (disc, caliper, pads) at approximately 26,400 miles due to a driveability concern, and battery and drive belt tensioner replacement at approximately 29,100 miles. An independent service record five months prior to the transmission failure confirmed transmission fluid was at correct level, ruling out neglect. The pattern of cascading safety-system failures — braking, electrical, and transmission — within 32 months on a low-mileage vehicle suggests a potential systemic manufacturing defect. The RPM lock and inability to shift at highway speeds represents a direct safety hazard to the driver and other motorists. All repairs were confirmed and performed by an authorized Mazda dealer under factory warranty. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While unloading cargo from the rear of my 2025 Mazda CX-70, I activated the power liftgate(key was in pocket ) to close while i was reach back cargo . As the liftgate was closing, it struck me in my head and continued closing instead of stopping or reversing. I had to quickly move out of the way to avoid further injury. The obstacle detection feature did not appear to function as expected. I am concerned this could cause injuries to other owners, especially children or older adults. When I demonstrated my concern to the dealership using a soft pillow ( today when i wen to change oil 7-31-26), the liftgate compressed the pillow before reversing only a few inches. I remain concerned that the obstacle detection system may not provide adequate protection if a person is in the path of the liftgate.

Following the previous steering recall we noticed that the steering wheel had started to stick when turning. We brought it in for maintenance and to have them look at the steering. It has been identified as an internal failure of the steering rack.

  • 2019 MAZDA CX-5
    - Mill Valley, CA

I own a 2019 Mazda CX-5 AWD equipped with the 2.5L naturally aspirated SKYACTIV-G engine with cylinder deactivation. At approximately 70,491 miles, the vehicle began leaking and burning engine oil, accompanied by a strong burning-oil odor and visible white smoke from the engine bay. This began on or around 7/15/2026 I took the vehicle to an authorized Mazda dealer, which confirmed that the cylinder head is cracked and leaking engine oil. I was quoted approximately $10,000 to repair. The repair is not covered because the vehicle is just outside the factory warranty. I received regular Mazda dealership maintenance through 52,000 miles, then regular 3rd party shops after. The oil is leaking onto/near the exhaust manifold. Oil contacting the hot exhaust creates a serious fire hazard, which I can detect from the burning-oil odor and smoke. Separately, ongoing oil loss risks sudden engine failure or stalling while driving, which could cause a loss of motive power and a crash, especially at highway speed or in traffic. This appears to be a widespread manufacturing defect. Many owners of 2018–2021 Mazda CX-5, and related Mazda3 and Mazda6 vehicles equipped with the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine with cylinder deactivation, have reported the identical failure — cylinder head cracking near the exhaust manifold causing an oil leak — frequently at low mileage. Mazda issued an internal service alert (SA-058/20) addressing cylinder head cracking on these engines, which shows the manufacturer is aware of the defect. Despite this, affected non-turbo owners are being denied repair assistance and are paying thousands of dollars out of pocket to fix a defect that presents a fire and crash risk. No crash, fire, or injury has occurred. I am reporting this because the defect is safety-related, appears to affect a large number of identically built vehicles, and warrants investigation and a potential recall to protect owners — especially those outside the warranty period.

The contact owns a 2016 Mazda CX-5. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electric parking brake module warning light was illuminated and the "Brake failure. The contact expressed concern that the brakes could engage while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

I was sitting at a traffic light with my foot on the brake waiting to turn left onto Lee Highway from Fairfax County Parkway. Car jerked forward TWO times in a row, both times hitting the car in front of me. Our lane was at a dead stop waiting for the left hand arrow. The cars to the right of us had the green and were moving forward. I felt like I had no control over the car during this time.

"My 2025 Mazda CX-50 began overheating while still under the factory warranty. During one incident, the engine lost coolant and overheated. I immediately shut the engine off to prevent damage. The vehicle continues to overheat, and the air conditioning only cools properly while the vehicle is moving. When stopped or idling, the A/C stops cooling. I have reported the issue to my Mazda dealer and opened Mazda Customer Experience Case Number 00473077. The problem remains unresolved despite multiple attempts to obtain assistance. I am concerned this condition presents a safety risk." "The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Mazda dealership on two separate occasions. The dealership kept the vehicle for several days during these inspections but reported that it could not reproduce or identify the cause of the overheating. Despite these inspections, the overheating condition and the air conditioning issue continue. During one of the service visits, I also discovered scratches to the vehicle's exterior that were not present before it was left with the dealership."

The car died and couldn't open doors, windows. Lost steering while driving. We were able to get off road and restart and fine for 2 weeks. While at still light tonight, the car turned off. Windows were up, couldn't open door, emergency blinkers would not come on. This is very dangerous.

Sticky Steering" or "Notchy Feeling": The steering wheel feels like it is catching on a notch or a "detent" when centered, rather than rotating smoothly.

Campaign 6524A Recall was completed in JUNE 2024. The recall repair has now failed and the steering is sticking/malfunctioning when you turn the steering wheel. Reliable Mazda dealership in Springfield Missouri informed me yesterday the recall was already completed and now I will be responsibility for the bill to repair the failed RECALL repair. Which the repair was a new spring and grease.... The car is not safe to drive. The steering wheel sticks and you have to forcefully jerk the wheel to center the steering wheel again. We do not have the money to pay nearly $4,000 to repair a failed recall that Mazda should take care of.
