2016 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER- Peoria, IL
This vehicle is dangerous and going to kill someone. I owned it 4 months and had to have it taken to 3 different dealerships 7 times in 6 weeks because it would die without warning while driving. It left me stranded in 2 different states and I was told every time nothing could be found as to why this would happen. However, there were several codes that came up that lead me and my mechanic to believe the transmission was failing. The dealerships did not want to fix it under my warranty so they told me nothing was wrong. I believe they also did this so that when I inevitably got them to take it back, they would have no paper trail of horrific problems to have to disclose when reselling it. I had to fight to get a new car and I was told this car would be sold wholesale and the issues would be disclosed. They were not. The dealer who bought it had no idea. Upon reaching out to them, they have made the decision to return it to the wholesale company they got it from. If nothing can be done from the NHTSA side, I will continue to track the vin and tell everyone what has occurred until that car is disposed of. Please, I implore you to get ahold of this car and scrap it completely. Someone will die if this car continues being sold as nothing was fixed and nothing was disclosed about the issues with it. Get this car off the streets. It is not safe to drive.

Vehicle is available for inspection. Soon after I bought this car last April I realized it's VERY difficult to see how fast I am going in certain areas that are shadowed, especially on cloudy/overcast days. I have the lights set as bright as they will go but when I get in darker areas during the day I can just barely make out the tips to the 50/60 mph marks and a lot of times when it's cloudy overcast and I get in a darker spot I can't even SEE the tips of the 50/60 mph marks. Turning on the headlights doesn't help at all. I constantly have to "guess" what my speed is and that's a safety issue. I believe the problem stems from a combination of how far back the dash is set and the black cowl that protrudes out over the area. I think the area should be backlit like computer keys or somehow made to light up the way it does at night. I even tried to put some small LED lights in there but they were too dim to help. Another problem I have noticed with this car is that if I have my lights on I can't see my backup camera either, so if I want to back up in a parking garage or during a rainy day when I have my lights on, I first have to turn off my lights so I can use my backup camera.

The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The battery warning light illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as needed. The contact was able to drive to his destination; however, the vehicle later failed to restart. The vehicle was jumpstarted and taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed but no issues were found; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the battery was replaced; however, upon replacing the battery, the vehicle remained in LIMP Mode with the Forward Collision Avoidance system being inoperable. Additionally, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a tech support was assigned to provide remote assistance to the dealer in diagnosing the vehicle; however, the tech support was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer for 71 consecutive days. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,249.

The Transmissions in these vehicles are junk and very dangerous. I was driving out of town and all of a sudden the RPM´s started revving up. Then I tried to slow down and pull over and the vehicle did not want to down shift and it stalled on the highway with traffic. This is not the first time the transmission went out on the same vehicle. I had a hard time finding a transmission to put in and when I did it only lasted a year. Please, you can not put these cars out there with this type of transmission in them. They are junk. Please make this right.

I was driving speed limit, on a sunny day, when my car began to veer to the left. I eased back into the right lane and suddenly the car made a quick jerk to the left; then, another to the right. I slid on the bank and missed the ditch before becoming airborne and landing in a corn field. I was able to drive to a safe location when the traction control light appeared on the dashboard.

I started to experience hesitation in the cars power and shifting “gears” in the cvt, it started to feel very rough and the rpm would jump up and down. The owner of the dealership tried to tell me it was normal. I knew something was wrong. I left the dealership and not even kidding… 20 minutes later my cvt gave out and the light came on. I purchased the vehicle with 27,700 miles. I was shocked, they had it replaced but i never received any paperwork on where it was replaced. The car started to feel fine for about 20k miles and then boom it’s back. I am going to take my car into the dealership once again and I am just not a happy overall owner. I have had over $21,000 in repairs on this vehicle! We’re talking from wiper motor going out to exhaust pipes needing replaced. The warranty company has luckily saved me with most repairs but i’m sure they are not happy either. I am now at 95k miles and on my way to take it in to see what’s wrong this time. The car has terrible acceleration and just doesn’t want to shift. I shouldn’t be feeling a huge jerk around 30mph from a cvt. I also told the owner of my dealership and his mechanics that their is a weird odor that smells like radiator fluid coming from the passenger floor. It’s completely soaked all the time and even has a weird texture to it. The owner and mechanics once again tried to make me feel stupid. This is unrepaired and has been happening since i bought the vehicle. I have been trying to get it fixed but i’m told “you spilled something” which is documented in the repairs notes. I just want to drive this car without something else giving out. I believe my dealership can’t give me the help my car needs and i’m concerned knowing i still owe $11k on the vehicle. Main Concern - 2nd CVT failing (something was missed that’s causing this) - Passenger Floor Boards Wet (getting no help and being told i spilled something)

In any instance where the electronic shifter does not have power, vehicle cannot be placed into neutral manually to be pushed to safety. Vehicle shuts down, immobile, in place with no warning. I was in drive for approximately 30 minutes. I put the vehicle in park, then in reverse to back out of a parking space. The car was never turned off. When I went to put the vehicle into drive, the entire car lost power. There was no warning. The car was completely immobilized perpendicular to traffic. Because the shifter is entirely electronic, any time the vehicle loses power (battery, alternator, electrical issues, chip processor problem) the car cannot be placed into neutral and there is no manual override. The battery power failed with no warnings
