  • 2017 NISSAN ROGUE
    - Lindenwold, NJ

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle had unintendedly accelerated and then inadvertently decelerated. The vehicle was taken to three independent mechanics and diagnosed with mass air flow sensor failure. The mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer. The dealer performed an oil change, a brake fluid change, and cleaned the throttle body. The dealer informed the contact to add a fuel injector cleaner to the vehicle twice a year. However, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to Cherry Hill Nissan (2325 NJ-38, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002) and had another oil change and windshield wiper replacement. Cherry Hill Nissan informed the contact that the failure was related to a towel the contact had placed near the driver's side floor mat, which jammed the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The trunk lift gate opens then closes. The safety feature in which it will open if it is close to coming into contact with an object does not work. Sometimes the malfunction is delayed and if an individual is reaching into the trunk , it will come down on their head and possibly close them between the liftgate and the trunk. The trunk was inspected by a Nissan service parts place and they said it coded for needing new spindles which is a $1300 part that is on national back order without an eta. This presents safety issue because it can cause head injury and possible body injury if a smaller sized individual gets closed between the liftgate and the trunk.

THe transmission on my 2017 Rogue went out in the matter of minutes with no warning and has under $59,000 miles on it. It is not covered under warranty because it is a canadian vehicle.

I was driving 5mph at a drive through Xmas light display. While slowly driving through the display, the vehicle suddenly lunged forward followed by the emergency braking system engaging. Which brought the car to a sudden stop in front of the cars following behind us. I turned the car off then back on. Several lights on the dash remained on after restarting the car. I took it into the Nissan dealership in Rockwall, TX. They told me the ABS control module failed and needed to be replaced. Based on what I was doing at the time of the incident, this sudden failure could have resulted in a potential accident. The dealership also told me this is a know issue on other Nissan's and has been known to cause the vehicles to catch on fire.

On 3 December at approximately 1100 hours I was driving the 2017 Nissan Rogue to Clarkesville TN. The Rogue stalled again on the highway, all dash lights were out, no power. I was stuck in the middle of the right hand lane on the highway. Traffic was lined up behind me and couldn’t get around me. I waited a few minutes and the Rogue started back up. I immediately drove the 2017 Nissan Rogue back to the dealer on 3 December and left the Rogue with them for repair/diagnosis. I told them I was not driving the car until they repaired it. I also told them the car was a safety hazard and to continue to drive it would be a hazard and may cause injury or death. On 6 December, Watermark Nissan called me and said they could not find the problem with my Nissan Rogue and that I needed to come get the vehicle, which they did not repair.

At approximately 68,000 miles and in April 2021, my 2017 Nissan Rogue SL began exhibiting a lag in acceleration from a complete stop. Upon pressing the accelerator, there would be a 3-4 second delay before the engine and rpms would engage and the car would simply crawl forward in that time. I felt the need to try pumping the gas pedal to try to get it to go but that didn't help. After several seconds, it would accelerate and the rpms would go up normally. After doing this three to four times after complete stops, the car goes into "limp home mode," in which it will not shift gears or accelerate above 45 mph. Stopping and turning off the engine, waiting 45-90 seconds, and then restarting almost always resets the car so that it will perform normally again for a little while. But it always recurs, especially if I spend any time idling, such as at a traffic light or in a school pickup line. This is very dangerous, as I am not able to count on my car to get me through traffic when turning onto a road or crossing a road at intersections. I fear being unable to get out of the way of oncoming traffic with that delay in accleration. The Nissan dealership mechanics have looked at the car for this problem twice and have been unable to resolve the issue at this time. They say it could have something to do with the electrical harness, which is costly to repair and the car is no longer under warranty. The mechanics have been unable to recreate the problem, though it happens frequently in daily use and occurs more often in warm weather than in cool or cold weather. The engine, however, does not register overheating. There is no check engine light when this happens.

The airbag light turned on without any accidents happening, went to the dealership and they charged me for diagnosing the problem then they quoted me 3000 usd + to repair. The car is 48,000 miles with clean title and zero accidents, having the airbag light on without accidents means nothing but a manufacturer’s fault
