Subject: Request for Investigation of ABS Module Failure and Part Unavailability To Whom It May Concern, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate a potential safety issue involving the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module, Part Number 68228991AD. The ABS module in my vehicle has failed, causing the ABS and cruise control systems to stop functioning. In addition, the ABS, check engine, and brake warning lights remain illuminated at all times. As a result, the vehicle no longer has anti-lock braking capability, which increases the risk of skidding and loss of control during emergency braking or adverse road conditions. My primary concern is that this safety-critical part appears to be discontinued or otherwise unavailable. I have spent more than three years attempting to locate a replacement through dealerships, parts suppliers, salvage yards, and online sources without success. Because the required part cannot be obtained, owners are left driving vehicles with a disabled ABS system for extended periods. This creates an ongoing safety risk for drivers, passengers, and others on the road. A critical safety system should be repairable when it fails. This issue has also created a significant financial burden. The constant warning lights and inoperable safety features substantially reduce the value of the vehicle and make it difficult to sell or trade. Few buyers would be willing to purchase a vehicle with persistent ABS, brake, and check engine warnings that cannot be repaired due to the lack of available parts. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate the frequency of failures involving ABS Module Part Number 68228991AD, the availability of replacement parts, and whether manufacturer action, including a recall or extended support program, is warranted. 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie. ABS, Traction control, Brake light warnings on. Cruise control also will not work. Have taken to dealer O'Steen in Nashville, Ga. and was told the ABS module is bad and they are unable to get one. They informed me they have had three other customers order this module and none have received the part. They have been on back order for over a year.

Dear NHTSA, I am contacting you regarding an active service campaign for my vehicle involving the crankshaft position sensor and tone ring. I would like to arrange for this campaign to be completed as soon as possible. I was told by one dealership that my vin doesn't fall under this campaign. The Campaign is noted for the years of vehicle and my Truck stopped mid-drive in traffic abruptly. I feel this could have been a safety concern. When code ran and light on dash it says crank shaft position sensor. The contact owns a 2015 RAM 1500. The contact stated that while parked and inspecting the brakes, the contact noticed cracks on both ends of the sway bar. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the sway bar was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the sway bar was cracked on both ends and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel suddenly became difficult to steer in either direction. The power steering warning light illuminated. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 16V167000 (Steering). The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired because the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,500.

In December 2023 my truck was diagnosed with a faulty Anti-lock brake module. The Ram dealer that diagnosed my truck was unable to source a new anti-lock brake module, but told me, "We're not allowed to tell you this, but it will always have brakes". My anti-lock brakes and traction control have been disabled for 2.5 years. The part I need is supposedly under "Engineer Review" and is still not available. In March 2026 I experienced a number of electrical issues and took my truck to a different Ram dealer. Their diagnosis indicated my ABS module has degraded further and has shorted the CAN bus. This disables the transmission shifter, electronic throttle control, electrical power steering, speedometer, and 4wd system. These were all disabled while traveling at 65 MPH on the interstate. Currently, my truck is immobile and is at a dealer awaiting an Anti-lock brake module. The part has been backordered. I'm happy to pay the repair costs the get my truck back. I'm writing because of the huge safety concern of being forced to drive with a faulty Anti-lock braking system due to a lack of available parts (2.5 years! and counting). Especially when it can disable the transmission shifter, throttle control, and electrical power steering while driving.

The ABS brake module failed approximately 11 months ago. John Jones Chrysler confirmed this as the problem, and ordered a new part. Dash brake light, traction control light, and ABS light are lit on dash panel. Also cruise control quit working, because of this module. The dealer refunded my money saying parts to repair are unavailable. I’m assuming a failed ABS module is a definite safety problem. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles.

My eps is going out. When driving and turning my wheel the wheel catches and is hard to turn. It is significantly harder to turn when driving compared to being parked. Also it seems to not do this during the evening and early morning when it’s cool out.

While driving my 2015 Ram 1500, I was exiting the freeway and attempting to merge into traffic when the electric power steering system appeared to fail or malfunction. The steering suddenly became very stiff, and I struggled to turn the steering wheel while trying to safely merge. Shortly after the steering became difficult to control, the power steering warning light came on. This created a safety concern because I was actively merging into traffic and had reduced ability to steer the vehicle. The sudden loss of power steering assist increased the risk of a crash with surrounding vehicles, especially because the failure occurred during a traffic maneuver. The vehicle and power steering system are available for inspection upon request. At this time, it is UNKNOWN whether the problem has been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. It is also UNKNOWN whether the vehicle or component has been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. Prior to the incident, the power steering appeared to operate normally. The warning lamp came on after the steering became stiff. The problem appears to be intermittent, as the steering may work after the vehicle sits overnight, but the warning light and steering issue return after driving for a period of time. Based on my assessment, the issue may involve the electric power steering system, EPS control module, wiring, fuse/fusible link, or related steering assist component, but the exact cause is currently UNKNOWN.
