2022 TESLA MODEL Y Complaints

Car was at freeway speed (~70mph) and on cruise control, and out of nowhere the brakes were applied by themselves very abruptly. I was almost rear ended on the freeway as a result.

While driving down the highway, the Tesla slammed on the brakes automatically, with significant force, for no reason.

Automatic braking without obstructing vehicles or obstacles while using both the Traffic Aware Cruise Control and Autosteer functions. Occurs multiple times per drive and has occurred on multiple drives. Occurs without warning and places following drivers at risk. Renders these features unusable.

Phantom braking occurs in the Tesla Model Y when the vehicle’s TACC system is engaged. This is not auto drive, this is the systems Traffic Aware Cruise Control. Unexpected Braking occurs decreasing “cruise speed” approximately 8-11 miles per hour in a matter of seconds. On a trip from the Dallas TX area to the Colorado Springs area, this unexpected phantom braking occurred approximately 3 dozen times on open highway and in clear, sunny weather. This is a major safety concern as this brisk deceleration can cause the vehicle to be rear-ended by vehicles following the Tesla.

On the Highway with cruise control on, the vehicle suddenly braked multiple times when nothing was in front or behind me. There was a truck one time in the next lane.

255/45R19 104W XL. I had a flat tire right in the middle of a fast perfectly smooth highway while traveling with a baby, the car is just beyond a month old and it seems the TPMS system failed and the tire has to be replaced at the customer's cost.

Unexpected braking. This occurred several times on a long trip. Each time we we're on a bridge or other structure close to the roadway.

The AutoPilot or Full Self Driving malfunctions by suddenly braking for no apparent reason. Going from 70mph to 50mph on a busy highway can cause cars in the back to crash into my car. Along a two lane road the car suddenly started braking and veered right when a large 18 wheeler passed in the opposite lane. Causing cars behind to suddenly brake to avoid hitting my car. Another time car suddenly braked because there was a change in color where the road had been patched and there was a slight dip in the road. The problem has been confirmed by many other drivers and NHTSA is looking to the issue. I do not know what the Tesla Company is doing about this problem. There was no warning before the sudden braking happened.

I have been experiencing phantom braking on my Tesla Model Y. It is a new vehicle, which I purchased at the end of September 2022. While driving with cruise control activated, the emergency braking will suddenly engage bringing the car to a sudden slowdown/ stop. This has happened on multiple occasions.

Travelling 101 North from Los Angeles to Solvang. I was driving with tesla auto piloit set at 65mph. Middle of the highway, no vehicles around, no bridges or any shadows from anything. Tesla model y braked from 65mph to 20mph suddenly without warning. Serious safety issue, had a vehicle been following me i would have been rear ended.
