2024 TOYOTA COROLLA Complaints

Rear camera stayed on while I was in drive. I parked, turn off the engine, restarted, and the camera stayed on while driving. I changed gears to reverse and then to drive, but no change.

I was leaving out of the parking lot of the shops Santa Anita. I was parked underneath by [XXX] and proceeded to to leave and turn out right towards the wide open parking lot. At the time I was leaving, it was completely empty. This parking lot is wide open as I was leaving and I’m going no more than 15 mph when suddenly a beeping sound goes off and the car slams on its brakes on its own! I didn’t even have enough time to stop on my own and look to see what the alert sound was. The car stop and jerked me so hard and slammed forward so hard. Thankfully I was in an empty open parking lot. That would have cause a very bad car accident and I would have been badly hurt and the car that would have slammed into me from behind! This has left me with so much anxiety and I am now very scared to drive this car at all even. I haven’t even had this car for a year and this is the second time I’ve had an issue with it. And I tried explaining to the dealership that for the past couple weeks to month that when I drive the car, it has this pulling feeling when I’m coasting. It has never felt that way before. My [XXX] daughter's 2024 Toyota Corolla stopped in the middle of the road and would not move. She received a message that said, "engine stopped steering power low". She called me in a panic and could not move the car out of traffic. I asked her to turn the car off and back on and it resolved the issue. The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the headlights failed to respond. There was a warning light illuminated that there was a failure with the front headlights. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was with the headlight; however, the dealer was not able to repair the headlights. The contact was then informed to take the vehicle to a friend of the dealer. The friend of the dealer confirmed the failure and was unable to repair the headlights. The friend suggested that the vehicle be taken to a Toyota dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the headlights were not the OEM headlights. The vehicle was diagnosed with connector failure and that the headlights needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,311.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2024 Toyota Corolla from Arlington Jamal Auto Group. The vehicle was purchased via a dealer sale. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 18,163 and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 16,405.

Roof rail attach to the vehicle is appears to be loose. Can cause a safety hazard if it rips off vehicle while driving on the highway

I was able to distinguish today the car noises my vehicle is making happens when I break. Like a “eeeeek” sound. My mileage is under 8,000, had the car almost a year. Also I notice my wheel stiffens. I’m able to verify it happens when I merge - specifically when the lane dashes end. The wheel somehow gets tight even when driving with both hands. As if the vehicle gets confused. This has happened about 5 times this year but every time it happens- I brace myself for the vehicle to crash since I can’t control the wheel, no matter how strong I try to gain control. The wheel gets too tight to steer. These episodes lasts about 3-4 seconds. I am going to take it to the dealership on April 1, 2025. Also there were no messages on my dashboard when these episodes occurred.

Upon startup in cold weather conditions, a brief but loud grinding/rattling sound will occur. The noise is related to an inadequate spring inside of the intake camshaft gear which will not push a small cylinder in place to lock the intake camshaft gear in place. When not in its proper place, the gear will rattle in its housing, causing the brief noise. If the gear rattles against its housing too hard overtime, it can break and cause catastrophic engine failure by sending metal pieces into the engine, including pistons and rods.

Windshield brittle / easily fractured. Small pebble fractured windshield, needs to be replaced.

On January 10, 2025, I was driving my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross and entered a parking lot to park. I started a three-point turn to park head-in and was slowly turning the steering wheel to the right. I was about to switch from the accelerator to the brake when the car suddenly accelerated rapidly. It felt like the front of the car lifted, and I lost control, colliding with a parked car to the left of the space. The distance between the two cars was about 5 feet, and the sudden acceleration lasted only 1-2 seconds. My car has a proximity warning and automatic emergency braking system, (Pre-Collision System) but neither activated, and the airbags did not deploy. My husband, in the passenger seat, heard a loud engine noise when the car surge forward unexpectedly. After the crash, I parked the car, checked for any objects near the pedals but found nothing. The other car had rear bumper damage, and mine had significant front-right damage, including a severely worn tire. I reported the incident to the police, exchanged information with the other driver, and called a tow truck. I later suspected a malfunction in the throttle or safety systems, such as the proximity warning or braking systems, which failed to activate. No prior warning lights or issues were present. The failure of these systems increased the risk to both myself and others in the parking lot. The cause of the malfunction has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle’s onboard diagnostic (OBD) system could be checked for errors, as a potential cause of the sudden acceleration but was told that it is difficult to diagnose such issues and was told that it was slim to find anything even if I did a diagnostic check. Given the car’s advanced systems, I believe these components should be thoroughly inspected to prevent future incidents.
