2023 TOYOTA RAV4 PRIME Complaints

My car's instrumental panel display (aka combination meter) went blank. This has been described in the NHTSA recall# 25V595, but no remedy is available at this time. It will not come back by restarting the car or disconnecting/reconnecting the battery. The dealership tried to reset the ECU multiple times, but that did not bring back the display. The dealership has not provided me with a loaner car. I cannot see the vehicle's speed and remaining gas, or if any doors are not shut. This makes operation of the vehicle unsafe. Instrument panel is blank on start up. Unable to see speed, fuel state or any other information normally displayed. No associated warning messages. Car has been at dealers for over 30 days for repair. No remedy identified.

Vehicle: 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime Plug-In Hybrid Component/System: Digital instrument cluster / dashboard display Description of the problem: The digital instrument cluster intermittently and unpredictably goes completely blank while the vehicle is being driven. When this occurs, all dashboard information is lost, including vehicle speed, fuel and battery level, warning indicators, cruise control status, and tire pressure information. The screen remains entirely black and provides no information to the driver. Safety risk: This failure makes the vehicle unsafe to operate. The driver cannot see speed or critical warning information, and multiple safety features become functionally disabled due to the lack of display feedback. The screen has gone black while driving, which significantly increases the risk of an accident and poses a serious safety hazard to the driver, passengers, and others on the road. Timeline and progression: The issue first occurred in October 2024. Initially, it happened infrequently (about once per month) but has progressively worsened and now occurs nearly every other drive. Restarting the vehicle does not reliably restore the display. Cold weather may be a contributing factor, but the failure also occurs under normal conditions. Reproduction and inspection: The problem has occurred repeatedly and with multiple drivers. The vehicle has been taken to a Toyota dealership twice for this issue. No repair was performed, and the concern was dismissed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Warnings or alerts: There are no warning lights, messages, or alerts prior to the failure. The display turns completely black without warning.

Multimeter display (with speedometer, fuel gauge, warning lights) does not come on.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Rav4 Prime. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument panel became inoperable and intermittently turned on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure had recurred and that the instrument panel failed to operate. The dealer was contacted again and informed the contact that the vehicle was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V595000 (Electrical System). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, and the dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

The digital instrument panel in front of the driver is blank and will not turn on. This happens intermittently at start up for up to an hour after starting the car. This causes the driver to not see alerts/warnings, current speed, tire pressure, gas gauge levels, etc. When contacting two Toyota dealerships and Toyota corporate, I was told that there is no remedy and that I essentially cannot do anything until they find a remedy. Toyota has left me with an undrivable car with no solution to the problem.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact became aware that the instrument panel was displaying a black screen. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, and determined that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

The digital dashboard (instrument cluster)on my 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime, suddenly went completely black. This included the speedometer, warning lights, fuel gauge, and all other driver information. I was unable to monitor my speed, vehicle status, or receive safety alerts — a serious risk while operating the vehicle. I have not authorized repairs yet. I brought the issue to Toyota’s attention, but since the vehicle is out of warranty and over the mileage limit, the dealership is requiring a $200 diagnostic fee just to evaluate the problem. There has been no formal decision from Toyota yet on whether they will cover the cost. After researching online, I discovered that numerous other owners of 2023 RAV4 Prime vehicles are experiencing this same dashboard blackout issue, suggesting a broader defect. This is not a result of wear and tear, and it directly impacts safe operation of the vehicle. I am submitting this complaint because this is a safety-critical system failure that should not occur in a new vehicle. If this is a common defect, it warrants investigation and potentially a recall. Toyota should not place the burden of diagnosis or repair on consumers for what appears to be a growing, safety-related manufacturing issue.
