My name is [XXX] , and I am writing to escalate a critical and ongoing safety issue following a recent recall-related software update on my Volvo vehicle (VIN: [XXX] ). The recall was intended to resolve a defect involving the rear camera becoming unavailable. However, ever since the update—starting approximately two weeks ago—my car has begun to experience the very issue the recall was meant to fix. The rear camera frequently becomes non-functional, especially while reversing, creating a major safety risk. The latest incident occurred today, [XXX], and I have multiple video recordings clearly documenting the failure over the past two weeks. This malfunction has resulted in accident-prone situations, endangering my safety and that of others. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The screen behind the steering wheel, which provides the car's speed, driver assist, warning lights, turn signals, and other driving information suddenly went blank. I was grateful that I was close to home and no longer on the interstate highway I had just exited. I drove home, reset the car, and the screen was back on. I was lucky. I could have been at the beginning on my drive, over a hundred miles from home and unable to easily exit the highway. The car is being towed today back to the dealer, again. This happened without warning. I was driving and the whole screen just went black.

The safety sub system completely stop working periodically. When it occurs: - the blind spot indicators do not light up when a car is in blind spot - turn signals stop making sound. Not sure if they still function - collision system stops making sound. Sometimes stops showing near objects and walls. This has happened about 7 times since purchase of the car, and requires a full computer reboot to fix it. It’s random, so you don’t know it’s failed until driving and something doesn’t work. I don’t have pictures but I have a video of it I can share if someone wants to see some of the issues. It just happened again today, and happens maybe once every couple months

I park my Volvo in my driveway which has a blind exit to a pedestrian sidewalk. When I start the car and put it in D or B mode, it does not make any sound. This happens in any of the vehicle modes including "Pure" electric where the ICE is not engaged unless the battery runs out. There is no way for oncoming pedestrians to hear the vehicle or to understand that it might pull out of the blind corner. According to the NHTSA Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 141 "The final rule requires hybrid and electric vehicles to emit sound at minimum levels while the vehicle is stationary (although not when the vehicle is parked, i.e., when the transmission is in “park”), while in reverse, and while the vehicle is in forward motion up to 30 km/h. (sic) full compliance should be by September 1, 2020" Our 2022 XC90 T8 Recharge does not make any sound while stationary in N, D, or B tranmission modes or while in Hybrid or Pure drive modes. I see this as a serious safety issue and wanted to report it before I have an actual safety incident. Volvo claims that my vehicle is in compliance with all NHTSA safety standards. Their response is attached.

In Volvo's Service and Parts Business Technical Journal Title: Panoramic sunroof, sealing strip has a gap Ref No: TJ 35503.3.0 the description states: "If the customer complain about that the sealing strip in rear end of panoramic sunroof is too short, or if the short sealing strips cause water leaks into the care, please follow advice under Service. Replace the sealing strips and glue it in each end in according to the method in VIDA." Volvo has been aware of the poor panoramic sunroof design which can result in water incursion into the cabin of the vehicle. On Wednesday, July 16, 2025 I was sitting at a stop light, using the Auto Hold system. A few minutes later, my car took off and accelerated on its own and hit the rear of a truck. I hit the truck so hard as he was sitting at the light as well, it pushed his vehicle into the vehicle in front of him. I was unable to stop my Volvo, it was like it took full control over.

I am writing to formally express my significant concerns and dissatisfaction with the recurring software and system issues I have experienced with my Volvo XC60, purchased on 1st February 2025, approximately four months ago. The vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is [XXX] . Since taking delivery, I have encountered multiple persistent problems that have severely impacted the vehicle’s functionality and my overall driving experience. These issues include: Car Sensors: The sensors frequently malfunction, leading to inconvenience and raising serious safety concerns. Heads-Up Display: The display intermittently shuts off, limiting access to critical driving information. Cruise Control: This feature is entirely non-functional, significantly detracting from the driving experience. Sound System: Following a recent service visit, the audio system has completely stopped working, with no sound from the music system, indicators, or system alerts. Check Engine Light: The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) repeatedly illuminates, suggesting potential issues with the engine or related systems, likely triggered by sensor malfunctions. This persistent warning heightens my concerns about the vehicle’s safety and reliability. Despite multiple visits to your service center—exceeding ten occasions—these issues remain unresolved. The service team has typically reset error messages or updated the software, only for the problems to reoccur shortly thereafter. Most recently, the sound system failure emerged post-service, further compounding my frustration with this brand-new vehicle. The park button does not always engage the park setting. Instead it takes 2-3 presses for park to engage. It happens several times a week when I am driving the vehicle multiple times per day. I come to a complete stop, press the park button, wait for my dash to show I’m in park, if it doesn’t, I press it until it does. This has resulted in the vehicle rolling forward several times while passengers were trying to exit the vehicle, because I had not first checked to be sure the park button worked. Huge safety concern. I have owned this vehicle since August 2023 and it has happened at about this frequency since I’ve owned the vehicle. For the first time, my vehicle actually trolled enough to hit an appliance in my garage. I have a maybe related issue with the infotainment system freezing since I’ve owned the vehicle as well. The screen will freeze and we have to reset it by holding down the clean screen button for like 20 seconds.
