WINNEBAGO Complaints

Blind Spot warning has never worked since delivery in May, picks up bushes and fences but not cars. I am attaching a poll that was done in our Facebook group that was just for the 2023 EKKOs, there are so many others that originally had this problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Winnebago Ekko RV built on a 2021 Ford Transit Chassis. The contact stated that the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system had stopped functioning. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the RV, the RV made abnormal whining sounds and there was a strong burning odor inside the cabin of the RV. The contact stated that she determined that the secondary alternator had failed after investigating the issue online. The contact stated that she opened the hood and disconnected the secondary alternator by disconnecting all the alternator pins from the regulator. The contact stated that the A/C foam insulation close to the alternator had melted and was burned. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V234000 (Electrical System), that the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment with the dealer for November. The dealer was notified of the failure. The RV was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

The awning is self deploying. Sent in for a recall and still an issue. With phone calls to the supplier of the Awning (Carefree Awnings of Colorado) their customer service is suggesting a on off switch. Winnebago are not agreeing with a on off switch, and the are installing a motor brake wedge and a software update. This is not safe, the awning is still self deploying. This is a major safety risk for property damage and or life threatening road debris.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V234000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2022 Winnebago Travato built on a 2021 Ram Promaster 3500 chassis. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V049000 (Equipment) and 22V696000 (Structure, Equipment); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted on multiple occasions but the contact nor his wife received a response. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Blind spot monitoring failed, no longer works at all. Vehicle is 9 months old and 13,000 miles. This has been a very common occurrence with the last two Ekko model years. I have a 2023 Ekko on a 2022 Ford Transit Chassis. The blind spot monitoring is provided and installed by Winnebago, in 2023 Ford Chassis models Ford provides the blind spot monitoring system. Many Ekko blind spot monitoring systems have failed as indicated through other owners and through the Ekko Owners and Wannabee’s Facebook group. It appears that there is moisture contamination within the system causing a short within the control board rendering the system useless. Winnebago needs to accomplish a recall on these and install a system that will work and not constantly fail.

The contact owns a 2021 Winnebago View RV built on a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The contact stated while adjusting the front passenger’s seat, the contact became aware that the wiring harness was punctured, preventing the seat from adjusting forward. The RV was not diagnosed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 25,000.

When I ordered my Winnebago trailer on December 9th 2020 the literature from Winnebago said the wheel height could be adjusted and came with 14" tires, (well they said they can make changes without notice.) so when I received my 2021 1808FBS trailer, they change to 15" tires and the tires were off-road which made the trailer a lot higher than standard. They only installed a folding two step from getting in or out of the trailer. Taking a step off the last rung is quite a distance of 14" Folks can get a serious fall if they loose their balance and I believe Winnebago needs to reinstall a three step to remedy this serious situation. We are Seniors and would have not ordered the unit if we had known the height was going to be raise. The 14" is without any levelers stepping down.

My engine’s cooling fan blade and clutch assembly became unscrewed from its belt-driven shaft. Once unscrewed, the assembly was suspended at its hub by 2 cables to the engine, one mechanical and one electrical. The suspended and swinging assembly then damaged the fan’s threaded shaft mount and the vehicle’s radiator. In other reported cases*, damage has also occurred to the radiator shroud, drive belts or other critical engine parts. Thankfully, in my case the failure occurred near my home on a quiet neighborhood street at low speed. Once I located the problem, I was able to temporarily suspend and anchor the fan and clutch assembly to the radiator shroud and drive the van home. Had the failure occurred on a busy highway at speed, much more damage could easily have occurred and potentially have led to a serious accident. * There are many cases of this occurring on Winnebago Revels which are built using a VS30 Mercedes Sprinter with a 2nd alternator. The issue affects the vans of several recent build years. The house battery bank in the rear of this RV contains two lithium Ion 125ma Batteries. The mounting system used to hold these batteries allows them to slide around, the movement of the batteries and hold-down brackets allows contact between the sharp metal hold-down brackets and the battery cables themselves. The resulting chaffing of the battery cables causes them to short out and catch fire. I caught mine barely in time, as you can see in the pictures the cable coating is being worn through and is compromised. Others have posted on this and have had fires.
