While the contact’s father was driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The contact’s father was able to regain control of the vehicle by releasing the accelerator pedal and allowing the vehicle to decelerate. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road to inspect the vehicle. The driver became aware that the tread on the driver's side tire had separated, causing a portion of the tire near the seam to detach around the entire tire. The tire was a replacement tire. The driver replaced the tire with the spare. The contact sent an email to American Tire Depot where the tire was purchased. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 194,040, and the tire failure mileage was approximately 17,339.

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was wobbling and there was smoke coming from the driver's and passenger's side rear tires. The vehicle was taken to a tire dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's and passenger's side rear tires had sidewall separation. The tire dealer replaced the driver's and passenger's side rear tires; however, the failure recurred with the driver's and passenger's side front tires. The vehicle was taken to another tire dealer where the driver's and passenger's side front tires were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21T002000 (Tires). The failure mileage was 189,275.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE NEWS OF A NATIONAL RECALL FOR COOPER TIRES AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE TIRES WERE ON THE RECALL LIST. THE CONTACT CONTACTED TIRE KINGDOM (1485 E MITCHELL HAMMOCK RD, OVIEDO, FL 32765) WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE FOR NEW COOPER TIRES OF A DIFFERENT TIRE LINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE NEW TIRES SINCE THE RECALL STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD REPLACE THE AFFECTED TIRES, FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CONTACT NHTSA SINCE THEY HAD NO AUTHORITY OVER THE DEALER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
