GENERAL TIRE GRABBER HTS TIRES Complaints

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with General Tires, Tire Line: Grabber HTS60, Tire Size: 275/60 R20, DOT Number: (NA). The contact stated while driving 15 MPH in a parking lot, the rear passenger’s side sustained a blowout. The contact stated that the low tire pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and replaced the rear passenger’s side tire with the spare. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be serviced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The tire manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,700.

Front Driver Side tire has tread separation, down to the cord. Manufacturer Date code 1619, mold 418570. One week later was recalled for tread separation, but the dealer told me this is not covered under bumper to bumper warranty as they claim it's from road damage, but it was not. Had to have it replaced.

I noticed a sway in the vehicle while driving down the highway, bad enough to pull over and check the tires and suspension. Took truck to dealer where upon inspection I was told that the cause was the tires' sidewalls are not stiff enough and the tires try to follow the grooves in the road. The dealer recommended changing the tires but had to defer to General Motors who denied the tire change under warranty. GM informed me that this is a normal condition of the tires on roads that have grooves cut in and would not be covered under warranty. I explained that I do not feel safe towing a trailer behind this truck and was told that they could not replace the tires but offered me multiple options for my trouble including: Onstar, service voucher which cannot be used on tires, accessory voucher which cannot be used on tires, and a wheel and tire protection plan which would not cover the issue at hand. I declined all of the offers as my only concern is having a truck that is safe to tow a trailer behind and new tires are required in order for me to have that. The truck is designed to be able to tow a trailer and I am too concerned to tow behind my brand new truck because the truck would induce a sway into the trailer posing a significant safety risk to myself and other motorists on the road. If this is a known issue, which it seems to be, then General Motors should not include these tires on trucks sold in markets with grooved pavement to reduce the risk of accidents resulting in injury or even death. I shouldn't have to spend an additional $1200+ on new tires for a vehicle that was less than a month old when I took it into the dealership.

ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2021, MY HUSBAND (DRIVER) AND MYSELF (PASSENGER) WERE TRAVELING ON A SAINT LOUIS HIGHWAY AND THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE SUDDENLY BLEW WITH NO WARNING. THERE WERE NO TIRE PRESSURE OR OTHER WARNINGS DISPLAYED ON THE DASH OF THE TRUCK. AFTER PULLING OVER, WE DISCOVERED THE ENTIRE SIDE OF THE TIRE HAD COMPLETELY BLOWN (LARGE HOLES OVER THE ENTIRETY OF THE WALL OF THE TIRE). IT WAS NOT UNTIL A MINUTE OR TWO AFTER THE TIRE BLEW THAT THE TRUCK DISPLAYED A LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING. AFTER RESEARCHING THE TIRE MAKER'S WEBSITE, I DISCOVERED A RECALL FOR THE EXACT TIRE HOWEVER, THE DATE AS LISTED ON THE DOT NUMBER WAS ONE WEEK OFF. OUR TIRES SHOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE TIRE MAKER'S DEFECT WAS EXACTLY AS IT OCCURRED WHEN OUR TIRE BLEW OUT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER EQUIPPED WITH GENERAL TIRES, TIRE LINE: GRABBER HTS60, TIRE SIZE: 215/70/R16, DOT NUMBER: VYBAHMFE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TIRE LOSS HALF OF THE AIR PRESSURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE NO FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TIRES EXAMINED AT THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

THIS IS THE 4TH GENERAL GRABBER HTS TIRE FAILURE I HAVE EXPERIENCED FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE REPORTED THE SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS TIRE IN PREVIOUS FAILURES, ALTHOUGH THE WEBSITE SHOWS NO FAILURES. GENERAL HAS A PROBLEM W/ THE MANUFACTURE OF IT'S E RATED 10 PLY TIRES. PLEASE KINDLY INVESTIGATE THE SAFETY ISSUE OF BELT SEPARATION AT APPROX 10-15K MILES, OPERATED AT SPEED OF 70 MPH OR LESS.

DRIVING 70 MPH ON EXPRESSWAY WHEN TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM BELTS ON TIRE DAMAGING THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL, BODY, TRIM AND BUMPER. TIRE WAS A FACTORY INSTALLED (BOUGHT THE 2012 F350 NEW) GENERAL GRABBER HTS SIZE 245/75 R 17 WITH 54,000 MILES ON THEM. DOT # IS A343 47DB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD F-150 EQUIPPED WITH GENERAL GRABBER HTS TIRES, SIZE: 265/70R16 (NA). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SUDDENLY BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD F-350 SD EQUIPPED WITH GENERAL GRABBER HTS TIRES, SIZE 245/75R17 (NA). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE INSIDE OF ONE OF THE TIRES WAS FLAT. THE TIRE WAS REMOVED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

I WANTED TO REGISTER MY TIRES IN CASE OF A RECALL BUT THE VEHICLE DEALER DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TIRE REGISTRATION WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW.
